2016-2017 WCHA Season Thread

Re: 2016-2017 WCHA Season Thread

BG's problems are two fold.

1) They have had a hard time adjusting to the amount of penalties being called. With nearly half the game being played in special teams they have been unable to use all 4 of their lines regularly. 5 on 5 they have outscored their opponents by a wide margin. PK has been an adventure, part of that PK issue is their other problem......

2)Their goalies have been very poor. Nell has shown no hint of the goalie he has been the last 2 season. His father passed away right before the season, not saying that is it(and that would be understandable), but he is just not the same goalie he has been. Ryan Bednard is a true freshman that has played in one game and got pulled. He is a Panthers draft pick, but he looked nervous in his only start.....maybe he can get his feet under him and be the guy until Nell gets his head on straight.

Bottom line is until they stop taking penalties and/or get better goaltending they will continue to struggle.

Re: 2016-2017 WCHA Season Thread

We've seen everyone in WCHA play at this point save UAA — conversely, UAH has played 21% of their league slate. This is a weird year for the league. I figure that we'll have a half-decent handle on the league by mid-November. But how would you rate them?

It's interesting, but we have to get more ooc wins as a group.

Brutal. They're about 2.5 games worse than Atlantic Hockey in non-conference play so far.

Brutal might be an understatement. Sadly it's looking like there will be only one WCHA in the NCAA tournament unless we start winning a lot more NC games ASAP.

Re: 2016-2017 WCHA Season Thread

Hockey is not being cut at UAF or UAA. Skiing (both schools) and track (UAA) will be cut, pursuant to the NCAA waiver being approved.

Your travel nightmares will continue until morale improves.

That travel complaint has always been horse po o py, if you make it into the pros you travel a lot more. ECHL players more than likely will enjoy the Alaska trips yet again!

Re: 2016-2017 WCHA Season Thread

No i'm not nuts but I can see 4 teams in. 1. Msu mankato- at large bid. Assuming they win most of their remaining non con games and finish near the top
2. Bemidji- playing really well and has a few non con games coming up to get well. the und losses won't hurt them.
3- LSSU - could really make some noise, but haven't played anyone really tough yet, so pretty iffy
4. MTU- if goaltending gets fixed, could win the league

also, the rest of college hockey isn't dominated by a few teams like last year. BU isn't great, nor BC, nor Quinnipiac, so because of that there might be openings that weren't expected.
