Re: 2016-2017 WCHA Season Thread

BG actually should have swept Miami. Outplayed them both nights could have won 7 or 8 to 1 tonight. BG just could not get a bounce to go their way last and Miami got the OT PP.

They finally played 6 solid periods of hockey... the way we figured they would.....now can they do it 2 weeks in a row is the question.
A mishandled face off to start the third and an ill advised penalty in OT were the difference. We outplayed them Friday night but we manhandled them on Saturday. 41-18 SOG should be enough to win any game.

Nell looked good this weekend. The death of his father just before the start of the season along with Hawkins leaving isn't a great way to start any campaign. Hopefully the ship is righted.

What happened to Hawkins?

So sorry to hear about Chris losing his dad. Met his parents last year at the hotel and it turned out we had some mutual friends in Green Bay. Really a terrific guy.

It's my understanding that the whole team went up for the funeral. A very emotional start to the season.

I would love to see Sandelin comment on all the diving on tonights USCHO show. His team is one of the worst offenders.!

Your squad is a class act. Chris has a very close knit organization. Chris is a good kid. And people around the Green Bay hockey community have had nothing but good things to say about his dad Rick.

Please keep Jerry DuBois in your prayers as well. He's a big BG fan and is fighting serious health issues as well. He and his buddy Kevin are always in the top row in front of the press box near the visitors broadcast position at the Madhouse.

I wasn't sure if I liked all the penalties at the start of the season, but I do like the results. Is it just me or does it seem the game has opened up and the players have adjusted.

I haven't watched all the teams play, but what games of BSU's I have seen, it seems to be more open. Looking at the stats, BSU's penalty minutes haven't really changed (other than a minor uptick) from previous years to this year, as of yet.

Funny, I watched the UND-UMD game for a few minutes Friday night, while flipping back and forth between that one and the BSU game. At one point, one of the announcers said, and I quote "Duluth really needs to think about taking a dive here, UND has the momentum and Duluth could use a call".

Iafallo is an expert at it and does it so well that no one knows it's a dive unless you play it back frame by frame.
I think it stinks.

Re: 2016-2017 WCHA Season Thread

2017 USN&WR rankings are out, and four WCHA schools made the national rankings cut:

118. Michigan Tech
194. Bowling Green
197. Alabama Huntsville
202. Alaska Fairbanks

It's an honor to share the ice with fellow prestigious academic institutions. :D

Re: 2016-2017 WCHA Season Thread

Today starts my new series, Recruiting Grounds, where I go in depth on many of the leagues where Michigan Tech gets their recruits. I think this will have plenty of value for all of college hockey including the WCHA since so much of hte league goes after the same recruits. I decided to start with the Upper Midwest Elite League since it just finished and MTU just happen to have a commitment from this year's leading scorer. Please check it out because this took me ALOT of time to research and break down. I hope to kick out one of the every couple weeks at least. Special thanks to the guys at the Elite League for providing pictures and stats from 2010 to present. I wish I could have found 2007 and 2008 to get me data all the way back to 2005, but it was not to be found...

Re: 2016-2017 WCHA Season Thread

Week 6 BELOW Rankings

Bemidji going from barely above average to verging on being a team expected to win three games in four the rest of the way. The crazy thing is this: by starting 8-0-0 with Minnesota State in 2nd at 5-3-0, if the Beavers do go 15-5-0, the Mavs have to go 18-2-0 just to keep pace[/url]. That gets really tough because the Mavs would pretty much have to sweep the season series to make the numbers work.

I hate everything.

Go Mavs.

I still don't know what to think about the Beavers. They are playing really well, but the way things have played out this season, none of the league sweeps could really be considered "Oh My" moments.

Maybe I am just being cautious as it is a long season. This weekend at Mankato will stay a lot about them, I feel. But they have put themselves in a good position.

You can't win the conference title the first month of the season, but you can sure lose it.......

As much as it hurts to praise a tech fan, that was a great post. Just a little suggestion, which you can take or leave: When mentioning the current NHLers, I think adding "Captain" after their team could add to the weight of the league.

I mean, I had not even heard of this league before this, and seeing Ryan McDonagh on the list, which is the current captain of the Rangers, is pretty **** impressive.

Thanks, I will take that input...see if I have time to figure out who is a captain. I really do appreciate the input. That was a pretty big undertaking that I thought had a ton of value, but I'm never quite sure how others will take it. Some people check out when you go too deep but it has value.

Re: 2016-2017 WCHA Season Thread

Well I think we had 1 win ooc this weekend and three losses. sigh. Congrats to Bemidji on their record so far. I wonder what has happened to mankato. After their sweep of St. Cloud they don't seem to be the same team.
