2015-2016 USCHO Posters Poll

Re: 2015-2016 USCHO Posters Poll

there seems to be a lot of importance placed on % of goals returning

just an FYI to the math challenged, if the person developing the spreadsheet and starting this thread had simply used total goals returning, it would have more validity

examples:
Team A scored 200 goals last year, they return 150, they lost 25% of their goals, but 150 is a lot of goals, good enough to be a contender
Team B scored 100 goals last year, they return 90, that's a 10% loss, they'll be lucky to win half their games this year

it should be obvious a better indicator is the total goals returning, the more the better
% goals falls under the "statistics don't lie, but the people that use them do" category

that is all, have a nice day

I am trying desperately to fill my glass halfway up. If I look at goals returning, I might be able to fill it. With tears:rolleyes:

Just trying to be positive.

I guess I should put some kind of deadline up for the first post -- call it Tuesday evening, 7pm or so. I'm going to be doing these from home instead of work this year (heh...)

People can feel free to change rankings if they want, I'll update. Just try and make a comment that you're changing.

My SWAG:

1) Minnesota
2) Wisconsin
3) BC

4) North Dakota
5) Clarkson
6) Harvard
7) Quinnipiac

8) BU
9) Ohio State
10) Bemidji

1-3 are locks in some order
4-7 shuffle the deck and these 4 could come in any order
8-10 are SWAGS

No change from my first SWAG.

Re: 2015-2016 USCHO Posters Poll

My rankings, based on my extensive lack of knowledge of all of these teams:

1. Minnesota
2. Wisconsin
3. BC
4. Harvard
5. Clarkson
6. Bemidji
7. North Dakota
8. BU
9. UMD
10. Mercyhurst

I believe that Scanlan has Bemidji playing with a lot of discipline and he is attracting better talent. The Beavers are my surprise team.

Re: 2015-2016 USCHO Posters Poll

Surprised at the Wisco and UMD love, not gonna lie*

*not that it is ridiculous to suggest that UMD might be top 9 or Wisco is #2, just that it's surprising it all

I think Wisconsin was better than BC last year. The only reason I have BC higher right now is that I think the Badgers were hit harder by graduation. I might change those two once I see the rookies of each squad.

UMD is going to be highly dependent on how the team reacts mentally, but I get the sense that the players are embracing a fresh start. We'll see. I do think there is more talent on that roster than there is on a team like Northeastern, for example.

At a certain point, the WCHA teams will start grinding each other down like they always do, so everybody can't be in the top 10.

Spot on, you kinda seem to know what you are talking about. ;). That's why I have BC 2 and UW 3 as well.

What can I say...until they start playing for real I have to concede judgment to the teams from the best conference in the land

Re: 2015-2016 USCHO Posters Poll

Hmmm...somebody has Minnesota at 2? Might be the only one in the country (and that includes preschoolers).

It's just FiveHoleFrenzy, who could be trying to buy favor with Ted Knight in case they ever meet at the rink.
