2015-2016 USCHO Posters Poll

Re: 2015-2016 USCHO Posters Poll

Yeah, I like it (and I agree that HE is third and CHA fourth). I would put Yale below OSU and Cornell and Dartmouth above, despite what the dumb actual numbers say.

Yale, OSU, RPI, and Cornell. Some quality play by all four, but painfully inconsistent. Look at the quality wins:

Yale beat QU and SLU.
OSU beat UND and UMD.
RPI beat Clarkson (and tied QU).
Cornell beat Princeton and SLU.

In terms of head-to-head between the four teams (which we all know TRUMPS ALL!), Yale is 3-0, while RPI and Cornell are 1-2. No H2H for Ohio State. So that was heavily weighted in my rank order of Yale, OSU, RPI, Cornell. The way I settled RPI and Cornell was via their quality wins above - RPI's looks a bit better than Cornell's. I could put OSU ahead of Yale, but some of those puzzling losses for both teams just made me settle on Yale at the top.

Now Dartmouth, that's another story. I really think the Big Green's record is not indicative of how hard they are to play. They have a handful of outstanding players (Stacy, Ottenbreit, Allen, Tebano, Forfar - I'm open to others, I just know these) who would be taking regular shifts at Wisconsin, Minnesota and Boston College. Anyone familiar with this Dartmouth team is nodding their head right now. I think Dartmouth might overplay those five in order to make up for depth. But I'm not a real expert on the problems at Dartmouth, just guessing from watching them play a few times.

ARM... this is a perfect post. You have a real good sense of how all the teams stack up. I think what is most impressive is your analysis of MSU v Brown v Union, because you really have to be paying attention to women's hockey to speak to that (and yes, MSU is better than those two).

Just for fun, here's how I think a combined WCHA and ECAC conference might look like in the standings right now:

1. Wisconsin
2. Minnesota
3. Quinnipiac
4. Bemidji
5. North Dakota
6. Clarkson
7. Princeton
8. Harvard
9. Colgate
10. Minn-Duluth
11. St. Lawrence
12. St. Cloud
13. Yale
14. Ohio State
15. RPI
16. Cornell
17. Dartmouth
18. Minn State
19. Brown
20. Union

I think that you can throw a blanket over RPI, Cornell and Dartmouth at this point, with Yale just a small step ahead. Dartmouth is 5 points out of 8th place right now with just 6 games left but their fate is completely in their own hands and I think that they have just as good a shot at the playoffs as the other three. They have games left against Union and Brown (Cornell has a game against Brown but RPI and Yale are done with the bottom two) and they play all three of the other contenders for the playoffs (Yale, RPI, Cornell) with only one game left against the ECAC's top 6 teams.

Adding the links to the Hockey East and WCHA websites that show head-to-head results versus the other leagues. Unfortunately, the ECAC and CHA don't include this info on their sites.

Hockey East is 21-23-5 this year against the ECAC. I expected a bigger gap myself. I'd agree with the others that think the ECAC is stronger than Hockey East this year but I don't think that is always the case.

Take Union, Brown and Dartmouth out of the equation and that win% would be a lot smaller. Unfortunately for Union and Brown in particular, it's a very long season right now. But they're playing hockey so it can't be that bad!

Well, I mean, take out QU, Clarkson, and Princeton and I'm sure it would be bigger. lol

I totally agree though, I expected the difference between the two conferences to be greater.

Agreed, there's some real talent on that team. It seems like Chemago has dropped off a bit from last year, which makes a difference.

Re: 2015-2016 USCHO Posters Poll

1. Wisconsin -- being unconvincing against St Cloud doesn't hurt as much as being unconvincing against Merrimack.
2. Boston College -- see above. The second game against Harvard of which the elders spoke could be where the timelines diverge.
3. Quinnipiac -- I fancy them to beat Minnesota right now. D is solid, F is getting the job done.
4. Minnesota -- Problems with offense and while they kept goals against down it was against teams that don't score much.
5. Northeastern -- Not as strong in net as the other top teams but leaving a trail of crumbs and frosting behind them. Beanpot will be fun.
6. North Dakota -- despite that hiccup against Kato which leaves them needing four points from the Minnesota series to hold onto third place in the WCHA, this is clearly a big game team.
7. Clarkson -- Only a fool lets their opinion of Clarkson be influenced by their games against St Lawrence
8. Bemidji -- ouch, tough weekend. Third place in the WCHA probably gets them another shot at Minnesota
9. Princeton -- Should not have lost to Harvard, but there were a lot of Denna Laing tributes at the game which I can understand changing the atmosphere. And got the job done solidly against Dartmouth.
10. Harvard I suppose -- 6-2 v Colgate and 4-1 v Princeton in the last few weeks versus a stomping by Dartmouth? Well, no-one else has a stronger claim to this spot I suppose.

I've seen games where she's been playing very well, but the skaters have been outplayed.

Re: 2015-2016 USCHO Posters Poll

Here is the top ten poll with some things overhead in practice for each team as players are on the bench.

1. BC
"Unless you fell on the treadmill, no one wants to hear about your workout."
2. Wisconsin
"Guys follow me around like I got a sign on my back that says free donuts."
3. Minnesota
"I hate it when my hair looks perfect before I put on my helmet."
4. Quinnipiac
"I wish I could fast forward time to see if it all works out in the end."
5. Clarkson
"Do I look fat in these breezers?" "Don't answer that!"
6. Northeastern
"Hey, you need to replace your chapstick with a glue stick."
7. UND
"Abracadabra...Nope...Still a ******."
8. Bemidji
"Today, I finally got a kiss...Yeah, thanks Hersheys."
9. Princeton
"You celebrate your A's." "I celebrate going to all of my classes one day"
10. Colgate
"Raisin cookies that look like chocolate chip cookies are the main reason I have trust issues."

Re: 2015-2016 USCHO Posters Poll

THE TIMELINES HAVE DIVERGED. It's like Sliding Doors but with Megan Keller instead of Gwyneth Paltrow. Or that Star Trek where they come back from the future and meet themselves in the past and decide not to lose to Harvard in the Frozen Four.

1. Boston College
2. Wisconsin
3. Quinnipiac
4. Minnesota
5. Northeastern
6. North Dakota
7. Clarkson
8. Bemidji
9. Princeton
10. NOT HARVARD. BU if they win tonight, Colgate if they don't.
