2015-2016 Division I Women's Hockey Scores & Results

Re: 2015-2016 Division I Women's Hockey Scores & Results

Wisconsin up 1-0 after first period against Bemidji. Pretty even period, with the Badgers getting the lead late on a Jenny Ryan rebound goal from a Pankowski shot during a stretch of 4-on-4 play.

Wisconsin wins , still 1-0.

Bemidji pulled the goalie with 2:15 remaining, and kept the puck in their O zone for pretty much the entire time, with one really good chance, but Desbiens kept the puck out once more. In three games now, Bemidji has yet to score on the Badgers and Desbiens.

Did an embellishment penalty on BSU cost them the game?

Quinnipiac beats RMU 3-2. Had a 3-0 lead going into the third but RMU got two back, not enough

Re: 2015-2016 Division I Women's Hockey Scores & Results

Yale spots Cornell 3 goals in the first period but then storms back with 3 of their own in the second to tie it up going into the third. Key game for two teams fighting for a playoff spot.

How the hell does St. Lawrence beat Harvard 2-0? Seriously? BC beats Merrimack 2-0. Looked like the Eagles piled up a ton of shots with little to show for it. They outshot the Warriors 19-1 in the first.

St. Lawrence over Harvard is not a big upset, IMO. Harvard has not impressed me this year. They usually improve as the season wears on, and maybe they will do so this year as well, but so far I don't see them as a top 10 team.

Re: 2015-2016 Division I Women's Hockey Scores & Results

Yeah I agree. Nobody seemed to listen to me when I said Harvard lost a ton of talent.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

As for BC, I have no idea, Kinger tried some new lines and needless to say they did not work. Totally piled up the shots (Merrimack didn't get their first until 19:21) but couldn't seem to find that last pass to set up a play. To me, that comes from lack of chemistry.

I've been not ranking or lowly Hawvawd all year, and fact, I chose to rank a toothpaste ahead of them in my last pole. At least the toothpaste won their game yesterday, though they only beat a crayon, apparently a dull crayon that may be broken inside the paper wrapper, but a win nonetheless.

BC shooting & not being able to finish......sounds like UW's problem from 2 years ago, a lot of shots, not a ton of goals, though this BC team is way better than that UW team was. It was just one game, though Merrimack seems to be equivalent to the broken crayon toothpaste beat yesterday.

BC finishing isn't a problem this year. Go look at their "goals for" this year... it's a huge number.

When a team like BC plays a team like Merrimack (and with all due respect to the latter's players and coaches in that first year program), there are two things going on. First, there is a mental let-down which is natural. Secondly, coaches give players who don't see the ice often the opportunity to play. As Tony said, it upsets chemistry. This happens every weekend in women's college hockey when there a strong team goes up against a weaker one. To infer from this game that BC has a problem finishing is probably not smart.

All Wisconsin in the first period today. Score is 3-0, shots are 20-to-7, two by Emily Clark following one by Sarah Nurse.

Re: 2015-2016 Division I Women's Hockey Scores & Results

Badgers pouring it on in Bemidji. Up 6-0 midway through 2. Chase Mowat after 5 goals.

Re: 2015-2016 Division I Women's Hockey Scores & Results

Clarkson 5 Harvard 2 with three third period goals to break a 2-2 tie.

Re: 2015-2016 Division I Women's Hockey Scores & Results

I have seen a lot of strange box scores, but this UM/Kato box score is nuts.

33-4 Minnesota in shots after 2 but 1-0 Kato

The MSU goal was really soft, and in soccer would have been credited to Own Goal rather than any player on the attacking team.

Before the third period, I said that the Gophers were still the favorites to win, though it wasn't easy.

Ended 2-1 MN. SOG 50-8 and it really was not that close. MSU did one heII of a job clogging the slot and tying up sticks so that shots from the outside often didn't get through and rebounds could not be had. They played as if on the penalty kill for 60 minutes. They were never going to score a goal except by accident & that is the one they got. It was a gutsy job and I admire their commitment. Harrington is going to be a hemorrhoid to other programs in years to come.

Interesting - even with the front of the net clogged, they still managed to get 50 through. 48 saves! Not bad!
