2015-2016 Coaching Changes

Re: 2015-2016 Coaching Changes

"TBA" is listed as coach on Finlandia's website. I did not see any official press releases from the school. Seems like a heck of a time to let a coach go right at the start of the season. It looks like Coach Syrowik brought some new players in as well. Anyone know what's going on at FU?

Maybe she'll show up as the new assistant coach at either Brown or RPI. Yikes!

Wasn't she an assistant at Adrian, helping lead them to a frozen four appearance at one point?

You're right. I just looked it up. That was the 2010-11 season when they beat previously undefeated UW River Falls in OT to win the NCHA playoff championship. They then lost 10-1 to RIT in the first round of the NCAAs. She was also apparently involved in the controversy when then head coach ML surprisingly resigned in the off season. Who resigns after coaching a team to it's best season and first and only NCAA playoff appearance after only 3 years as the head coach?! Bad news seems to follow DS. That's usually not a coincidence.

Re: 2015-2016 Coaching Changes

So once again it's RIT's fault?

Lol, yes it is. More specifically it's their coach's fault. He was recruiting kids to play D1 several years before they made the move up to D1. The year in question was their second to last in D3 hockey and Norwich beat them soundly in the big game at the end of the season much to everyone's delight.

I'm catching up on history. Thank you for the help, shelfit and Hammer. It looks like Syrowik remained an assistant for a year after Lomanto left Adrian, with Adrian having success in following years, possibly due to her assistance. Syrowik and the FU coach before her, Reinke, seemed to both be good coaches. Who will be next for FU?

Re: 2015-2016 Coaching Changes

If they can't find anyone soon, my guess is that the current AD will step back into coaching again.

They need someone that really wants to be there for all the right reasons and understands that winning won't be easy and has the experience to handle that. A young coach like her wasn't cut out for that job in the first place. The AD could step in but that would be a quick fix instead of a long term fix. A quick fix isn't what they need.

Former Moorhead High, UND Fighting Sioux, and Ottawa Senator Brian Lee is the new assistant coach for the Concordia Cobbers.

Re: 2015-2016 Coaching Changes

I feel vindicated. :D

English is a very flexible language. If a word is (incorrectly) used often enough in spoken communication, it often becomes a de facto word. The non-word "impactful" and using "impact" as a verb is a good example. Impact originally started its life as a noun and is now commonly used as a verb. Irregardless, in the dictionary citation is listed as "non-standard, use regardless". Type irregardless and use your spell checker. It will suggest regardless.

one of the reasons it is flexible, as most are, is because there are no Language Nazis other than a few professors, and nobody cares what they say, not even their students, unlike Spanish & French, who I suppose have a need to cling to something to give them importance in a world that otherwise wouldn't know or miss them if they no longer existed

Re: 2015-2016 Coaching Changes

Yes, Asano-Barcomb at Union must go. She is in her second year of her extension and if the AD was smart, he will let her go. There is talent on the team, but they are not being coached. It is hard to breakout when their play is man-to-man...they spend most of the game in the d-zone.

Rensselaer, Colgate, Union, Brown, MN State, Providence, Vermont, UMD, RIT

I would think the coaches from these programs are on short leash, clearly the ones in Bold have been cut loose.

Re: 2015-2016 Coaching Changes

Potter has done a remarkable job in two years time winning the NESCAC championship. Remember this year is her 1st recruiting class. Last year she inherited a team that had played for 3 prior coaches. To the extent that some of her seniors were less than willing to be held accountable, then that's on them, not the coach. This year, the team has bought what Jenny is selling and as a result, they are now Champions. So let's see...hire one of the most decorated and toughest players to ever play the game; let her put in her system and instill a work ethic to her players; watch them buy in and adopt what the coach is teaching them; watch them become accountable to themselves, their coach and their teammates; watch them win. What is there to critique? IMO Potter should still be playing on the national and Olympic team. Had she been on the ice the last minute against Canada at the last Olympiad, USA would have had another Gold medal. The decision to keep her off was that of a coach who IMO melted down under pressure and forgot (or did not have the ability to coach the last 3 minutes of a Gold medal game)...as Herbie said, she will take that fiasco to her grave.

In any event, can Potter lead a D 1 Team to prominence...ABSOLUTELY!!! A role model, mom of two and someone who can recruit and then most importantly, develop players over their 4 years, if UMD or OSU were smart and wise enough to hire her, they would be at the top of woman's hockey in 3 years time. Perhaps sooner if she can find a stud goalie to brick up the crease.

As for your haters out there, you know not of what you write. She's smart demanding passionate and accountable. The essence of what our great country was once built on. Characteristics to be celebrated not criticized!!!!!

Trinity11 was so nice with those that questioned the OSU hire.

Wonder if Trinity11 (cough... Rob) will make an appearance now?

Re: 2015-2016 Coaching Changes

I remember seeing a job posting for an assistant position at BC over the summer. Anyone know what came of that? I can't think of many not already employed that they may have considered unless they looked at alumni.

The coaches are all the same on the roster unless I'm missing something... you sure it was BC?
