2014-2015 University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs Womens Hockey

Re: 2014-2015 University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs Womens Hockey

There's a little more in this article (the money issue wasn't a surprise to Miller)...including Team Captain Hickel's letting AD Berlo know what she thinks in a two word tweet...

$215,000 is a pretty lofty number for a D1 Women's program. I can understand the reasoning behind the decision because that is a very large number to support. I would imagine they are looking to cut that number in half going forward. Maria Lewis is available ;).

On a side note, does anyone know what the mean salary is for a D1 program? The information is probably out there for state schools but probably not for private institutions.

The search for an entire coaching staff begins. (Forgot to post this here last night).

I hope the team was gathered and informed immediately...it sounds as though they were.

Team was informed Sunday night... Press release was supposed to come out mid day yesterday and not 10 pm so that bit seems slightly sketchy

The only salary I know is that of Brad Frost. He makes $155k this season and $170k next season. Coach Miler has taken a pay cut in the past and I fully believe she would do it again

I doubt she would have it be cut in half. Given the importance of Frozen Four appearances, especially for WCHA programs, I would think a Compensation package that included performance based bonuses would be a logical solution. Pay her $125000 with a $50k bonuses if she makes the FF. Just sayin'.

You're right she totally deserves to be paid what Brad Frost is paid.

According to this not-quite two year old article, Mark Johnson was at the time making $251K (as compared to men's coach Mike Eaves $306K).

Now, the timing of that number is that it is after Johnson had been offered the chance to be Penn State's first men's coach, but chose to stay in Madison instead. So it might make sense in that context that Johnson's salary is more in line with mens' coaching numbers; but then, so was Miller's.

And/or, it means Frost is being badly underpaid; which, if I were a Gopher fan, I might be worried about.

How do you find this out? I'd love to see some of the eastern coach's numbers. Doubt BC's is available being a private schools but the others maybe.

She deserves quite a bit more. 5 titles to Frost's 2 titles. My point is that she would be willing to take the cut to stay with the program. There's more here than the money.

I just use Google haha... The salaries of university employees are matters of public record. Most universities will release the salaries of their entire payroll at the end of every fiscal year and that information can be found on those respective university websites with a few thought out search terms

That's a sizable discrepancy in salary listed for Johnson.

News reports in 2011 had Johnson at around that 164K number prior to the Penn State job offer, and the contract extension he got to keep him in Madison.

Have to edit myself here.. Rud makes $99k at St. Cloud which puts him in the top 5. Scanlan comes in at about $200 less than Means. Haven't been able to find the info on Handrahan but I would imagine that at a school like Ohio State, he would be making money comparable to Idalski

Holy freaking crap. That article is something.

I mean, could she be fired for doing an interview like that? Holy smokes.

Just read the AD interview as well.

What are you budgeting for this position in the future? Do you have a budget set for how much you want to spend on a coaching staff?

“We’re working through next year’s budget. I don’t have a figure. I would encourage you to look at recent women’s hockey WCHA hires. That’s what we’re going to look at, recent hires in the WCHA, to see what the market is.”

Are you looking to be comparable to Minnesota and Wisconsin or are you talking about recent hires at Bemidji and St. Cloud?

“We’ll look at the whole WCHA, but UMD is not necessarily in a position to out-spend Big Ten institutions.

Geez, someone's salty...

She already was, basically. Why not speak her mind now? I'm glad she did the interview and didn't tapdance and sugarcoat her way through it.
