2014-2015 University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs Womens Hockey

Re: 2014-2015 University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs Womens Hockey

The HockeyWriters did a 2014 Mock Draft based on the NCAA women. Two Bulldogs (Stalder and Brykaliuk) got "drafted" into the NHL. Props to them.

Also, good to see that the WCHA received some nice representation in the Top 30 drafted. Done rather well with some pretty accurate "scouting reports" on the most of the selections.

My guess is CO.

...and I require no expansion on the "cult" observation. ;)

she was already an assistant previously "..has never coached before in NCAA..."

and also a 4x gold medalist " 2 time gold.."

+1 on not requiring an explanation

And I'm throwing Carla MacLeod's name into the guessing game for assistant coach.

Re: 2014-2015 University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs Womens Hockey

The added depth brought on by the new recruits .. return of Lacquette – with her rocket from the point, playmaking ability and just a hint of ‘tude .. last year’s poised and talented standout Freshies turned So (Stalder, Brykaliuk and Morin come to mind) .. the ever dangerous presence of Jr’s turned Sr - McParland and Huertas .. a welcomed returnee back to the flock in Gillanders .. plus newly appointed co-captains Hickel and Stauber will ALL make this team better than last years – no doubt.

Will be interesting to see who gets put with who for lines. If the players gel, buy into the gameplan and stay relatively healthy, the Bulldogs are poised to post a few more double ewes in the win column under the team’s architect in Coach Miller.

Stalder, Brykaliuk yes, but Morin has got to show me a bit more (5-10=15 pts in 36 games and -5). Let's not forget about the nice little mid-season pickup of Katka Mrazova from the Czech National Team (1-7 = 8 pts in 16 games and +2). Two way player, playmaker and some potential scoring punch for 3rd/4th line. As you said, line make-up will be a key factor.

Yes. And, there are others not mentioned each bringing their own skillsets that benefit the team in areas of certain roles, shut down capabilities, energy, etc.

Mrazova was a very nice addition. She sees the ice very well which makes her capable of finding passing lanes that most others may not. The goals were few BUT believe they will come for her perhaps with the added depth and a linemate that she will begin to click with.

Congratulations to a few of the past, present and future UMD Bulldogs for being selected to attend Hockey Canada's National Development Team camp (U22) to be held up in Calgary, Alberta the first week of August.

Those selected are Jessica Wong (standout D and Fwd and former captain of the Bulldogs); Sophomore player Ashleigh Brykaliuk (former U18/U22 attendee); and incoming recruit defenseman Catherine Daoust who was a teammate of Brykaliuk's at the U18 World Championships in Finland two years ago.

Good luck to them !

Morin's first half was 3-3=6 pts with 1 GWG and 1 GWA and -5.
Second half was 2-7=9 pts with 1 GWG and 2 GWA and was even. So I'd say she has demonstrated she is a strong impact player. Both Stalder and Morin averaged .5 pt per game in the second half. Stalder with 0-5=5 pts in 10 games and +4 and 1 GWA.

It makes perfect since to hire a Canadian, especially if you want to continue to tap in to the market North of the Border, which UMD will need to do to be successful. Let's face it they aren't going to win a national title without Canadians or Europeans with the Twin Cities and Wisconsin drawing all the best Minnesotans. The state is deep in talent but not that deep.
It's not Jenny. she is Canadian, was involved with a Junior prep program, and as far as i know, has never coached in he NCAA, just played Div1 .

Very good point. Gina ties to OHA, JWHL and hockey connections should help recruiting. I wonder what happened to Rebecca Russell? She must be coaching with the Canadian programm somewhere.

Big Sandy-

What can you tell us outside of her stats? What kind of coach and person is she?
I dont know that much of her, her bio is impressive. My friend on the Bulldogs told me that she is a popular coach with her players, she communicates well, is calm behind the bench (should compliment Ms Miller
Well ;) ). I believe she was the Assistant coach at OHA, that program, according to their website, had 4 u18 canada prospects and 1 u22 prospects. I don't think she has ever been a head coach, but that doesn't matter, she will have a skills role on the Bulldogs. From what I've heard , she is a very nice, focused individual . My St Cloud Huskies have benefitted from the OHA program, last year they added Pena, (probably the best offensive freshman on SCWH ) and have added another OHA player, her credentials seem very good.

Re: 2014-2015 University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs Womens Hockey

I was sitting beside a guy at the 2007 Worlds who claimed to be Kingsbury's cousin. He was explaining to me how intensely competitive she was. Maybe the merry-go-round of assistant coaches at UMD in the last 7-8 years will slow down for a while.

Re: 2014-2015 University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs Womens Hockey

Potter and Irwin will never become assistant coaches at UMD as long as Coach Miller is around. I would be very surprised to see them coach at UMD even after Miller is gone.

Kingsbury is a great hire. I will agree with BigSandy and say that I, too, have heard that former players "love" playing for her. No shortage of positive adjectives when it comes to Kingsbury

Re: 2014-2015 University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs Womens Hockey

Also, Bailey Wright is transferring to Bemidji State. So, Bulldogs lose 8 but gain 9 (11 if you count the return of Gillanders and Lacquette)
