You called it, KTDC. Jeez, you would think they would learn how to pronounce the last name of someone they were running a feature on.

Continuing a fine tradition of mispronouncing Gopher goalie's names! What will they do with 'Peters'?

Re: 2014-2015 Minnesota Women's Hockey: The Maroon & Gold Strike Back!

Kudos to Sam Gordon of the Pioneer Press for his two fine articles on the games this weekend. Especially liked where he wrote "Leveille ended it (the shootout) with three hellacious saves." Yes, they were hellacious as were several others during the game! I don't think I have ever been so grateful for a tie. It was nice to see the recognition of the 2005 team. I happened to be standing next to Charlie Burggraf when the players were being announced. Nice memories of a great team and season. The Harvard game has to be one of the best ever!

Yes, thank you to Sam Gordon and the Pioneer Press. He's writing the pieces as if he's paying attention and respectful of GWH's place in hockey and the TC sports scene. There's some nice recognition of the Gopher-Badger rivalry as well.

That's pretty good. That there's precedent for it actually makes me feel a little better about it.

Sam covered the team for the Minnesota Daily a few season back, so he has some prior knowledge of the team and the rivalry, and is not just an apathetic beat writer sent to cover a game assuming that nobody cares about it. That was also the case when the Pioneer Press had Betsy Helfand writing earlier this year.

For those of you whose only outlet to social media is this board...

The Gophers announced today that their Friday, February 13th game against UMD is now set for a 7:07 p.m. start.

Coming next year:

Minnesota
Tianna Gunderson....................F.................... .........(Roseau)....................Roseau, MN

Came out of the blue for me, that's pretty cool! She has 21 goals and 17 assists for Roseau in 20 games. The Lady Rams are 16-3-2. Anybody seen her play or know anything about her?

I'm glad to see another forward. I'm guessing we won't be seeing AK suiting up next year, and who knows if Kate Flug can come back from hip surgery to play.

Plus...it's time we had another northern Minny kid on the roster eh. ;)

After last nights games I have to say I see why SLU complained about the style of play from MSUM! Have they always been this 'rugged' and I just have not noticed or did they 'elevate' their game last night? Not a lot of elbow & stick cheap stuff to qualify for UMD or UND but man they were dishing out a lot of punishment. Once again this weekend the refs seem to have forgotten to bring a whistle so plenty of crap happened that should have sent players from either team to the box. I don't mind some bumping and grinding but kids are going to get hurt if the officials keep letting that part of the game get away from them.

Re: 2014-2015 Minnesota Women's Hockey: The Maroon & Gold Strike Back!

I attended last night's game. It was my first ever women's college game. My daughter's boy's team is in town for a tournament. I have to say that it was really great. Ridder is an excellent facility and seems to be just the right size. The crowd was enthusiastic and having the band playing really created a great atmosphere. It was a tremendously enjoyable experience. I think the Gophers are pretty spoiled by this great facility and fans!

Not having watched a lot of women's hockey I was actually surprised by the lack of physical play last night. I had expected more along the boards etc. I was amused by the fans getting a little agitated when there was some bumping. I guess that I will need to get more experience with the women's game. It seemed more akin to a roller hockey game. Lots of flow, few whistles, good skill, not much physical play. I was very impressed with Brandt, Ramsey and Sacklein. Ramsey's slap shot goal at the end was impressive. Even our boy's team gave that shot high marks.

Glad you enjoyed the game. If you see some more women's hockey games you can develop some perspective and context for the level of physicality in the games.

Picking one nit though, I'm guessing your use of the word 'spoiled' just meant that the Gophers have got a pretty good set up. But it implies a sense of entitlement, or lack of gratitude, or of not earning what you get. Every piece of evidence I've ever seen from the Gophers players is the exact opposite of all that!

Re: 2014-2015 Minnesota Women's Hockey: The Maroon & Gold Strike Back!

Yes- I meant great set up. "Spoiled" in a positive sense. Not a sense of entitlement at all.

It is really the fans that are spoiled. We can find losing a single game very upsetting! They proved they can go 41-0-0 so why are they not doooooing it? :D
By far the very best womens facilities in college hockey and a team that is a perennial championship contender with a staff that appears to be genuinely good people. I'd hate to have to recruit against that.

I have no idea what game you were watching.

(edit - hilarious that someone gave me negative reputation for my post. This game was a 7-3 blowout where you might expect cheap stuff. It wasn't there (as you stated). Please tell me UM fans aren't going to be like UW's fans where they want a whistle anytime someone touches one of their players. Body contact is allowed in women's hockey, and UM can dish it out as good as they get.

Also, interesting to see Righnut's comment immediately after ne7minder's "Not having watched a lot of women's hockey I was actually surprised by the lack of physical play last night. I had expected more along the boards etc. I was amused by the fans getting a little agitated when there was some bumping. I guess that I will need to get more experience with the women's game. As for SLU complaining - you barely beat arguably the worst team in D1 3-1 (weak rebound goal, deflection off D's skate and EN goal) with 5 power plays and 0 conversions (2 of which were 5 on 3's I believe). I guess you have to complain about something rather than looking in the mirror.)

it varies, both the physical play and fan reaction and how the ref calls it
you should have seen last Sunday's game
I didn't think they played dirty, Mavs just got more aggressive
it was nice to see the Mavs get fired up after the Menefee hat trick, seemed to PO them
if they had played that way from the opening puck drop it may have been a close game
they didn't play with much passion beforehand

Milica McMillan is missing from the line sheet today.

She was in a warmup outfit on the bench during warmups. I'm guessing that she was held out for precautionary reasons after what looked like a right leg injury during Friday's game (despite returning later in that contest).

Did I say there was anything cheap going on? NO. I say they played a rugged game. In fact they didn't play cheap. Your last sentence makes as much sense as the rest of the sludge excreted in your comment. That SLU's comments about that style of play somehow correlates to not beating someone as badly as you felt they should have? It's probably too dark for you to see in there but you really should extract hour head before you are overcome by the methane.
