Re: 2014-2015 Minnesota Women's Hockey: The Maroon & Gold Strike Back!
It was not Dougie, it was John Mariucci that made the call though all coaches since have lived by the MN recruiting only. It was a risky idea to start as there was not enough talent here to stock winning teams. But it has become a source of pride in the state and drive the kids in MN to progress like no other state can claim. I remember years ago there was one of the Boston teams that made a big deal out of having one whole line of Massachusetts kids! There are often kids from out of state, North Dakota, Wisconsin, Austria on the team & they are welcome. It was a great goal at the time and continues to make the hockey team special and unique in all of D-I sports but my guess is the demand to continue to produce revenue, which comes in large part from producing championships, will quietly bring an end to to deal.
Never quite agreed with Wooger's Minnesotans only philosophy. Understood it, but didn't agree.
