Let's Go Gophers!

Repeat performance! Wouldn't mind seeing Flug, Haley & Rodgers get some ice time...I believe all can contribute.

Re: 2014-2015 Minnesota Women's Hockey: The Maroon & Gold Strike Back!

Production quality isn't as good today. Looks like it is just the arena feed with a bunch of Badgers basketball sound bytes added on. At times, the cameraman is zoomed in too close and can't find the puck, or even any players.

Yeah...I thought the cameraman was under the influence there at one point.

This was a GOOD day! On the ice and on the gridiron eh!

Re: 2014-2015 Minnesota Women's Hockey: The Maroon & Gold Strike Back!

Right when we got down low on the left side, and I could see someone alone on the right side of the net, my screen froze! When it came live again a few seconds later the Gophs were in a pile behind the net! At least I could tell it was a good opportunity developing. I'll look forward to watching it from the archive.

The Gophers are just a hard team to beat!!!

Re: 2014-2015 Minnesota Women's Hockey: The Maroon & Gold Strike Back!

Great game. I never got a good look at the final goal. I was sitting on the far side of the arena and they never showed a replay.

I will say that might have been the hardest fought OT game Ive seen in a long time, at least in the regular season. neither team looked like it was going to be satisfied with a shootout.

Re: 2014-2015 Minnesota Women's Hockey: The Maroon & Gold Strike Back!

Sorry (no, I'm not) but the call that led to the Gophers' goal was just simply crap.

It was two players tying one another up. It happens a hundred times a game.

It was not a hook, it was not interference, there was no 'advantage gained' either way. It shouldn't be called with three minutes left in the 3rd period, it shouldn't be called three minutes into the 1st period; it shouldn't be called, period.

Just a crap call. Ruined what was otherwise as good a game as I've seen in person in years.

How did you feel about the call that led to Wisconsin's goal? A bunch of people scrumming around the goalie as happens all the time, Doocy picks out one bump and calls that. Can it be a penalty? Sure. All weekend, the Gophers were called for little hooks and tugs; others were let go. Who knows why they call some and not others? We always complain about the calls that hurt us as ruining the game, but similar calls that help are more palatable. Ultimately, UW could have killed the full two minutes as it had done earlier in the game, and we wouldn't be having this discussion.

Anyway, I thought Leveille was the player of the game. She had to come up big a number of times to keep the Gophers in it. Well done!

A friend of mine told me to expect this.

Why is the sniveling not in the Wisconsin thread? No faux apology required there.

Re: 2014-2015 Minnesota Women's Hockey: The Maroon & Gold Strike Back!

Doocy always gets bad press. Probably not as bad as Shepard (sp). By the way I think my bet stands.

Re: 2014-2015 Minnesota Women's Hockey: The Maroon & Gold Strike Back!

Ray Doocy transcends the art of refereeing, operating on a different plane than the rest of us. He sees things in a way no mere human can hope to. You cannot understand the officiating of Ray Doocey; you can only watch him operate in awe and feel blessed to have been allowed to do so.

Re: 2014-2015 Minnesota Women's Hockey: The Maroon & Gold Strike Back!

Great game today. The Gophers weren't as good as they were last night and Wisconsin was a lot better. I thought Minnesota had the better chances but the finishing was deficient: Brandt missed an empty net in the first period; Pannek twice had prime chances and fanned on the puck; those weren't isolated cases. On the other hand, Wisconsin's goal was kind of fluky. The puck popped in the air and McMillen lost sight of it and couldn't find it at all when it came down; if she sees it it's an easy clear.

All told, it was a very evenly played game. A tie wouldn't have been an unjust outcome.

Just saw an update from the U. After even further review, Dani Cameranesi was credited with the third goal in Friday's game, giving her a hat trick. http://z.umn.edu/gwhuwr1

Wisconsin also runs a lot of pick plays, more on Friday than Saturday, none of which were called as interference. The officiating all weekend was so bizarre that no partisan of either team ought to feel like they got screwed. I have no idea what the net balance of the bad calls was and you don't, either.

At least two of those were very obvious. How did Burke not get a penalty when she crashed the net and checked a gopher player into Leveille? How did WisconSIN's goalie not get at least one penalty on Friday? I'll admit that I see things through maroon and gold colored glasses as there were some calls that were missed on the Gophers that I will skip. Frankly, just not very well officiated overall and it's too bad because the women deserve better officiated games.

ARM and Brookyone commented on the video feed Saturday. No way to sugarcoat it. That was flat out embarrassing.
