Dartmouth gets the 3-0 win. After 2 periods Dartmouth women lead RPI 1-0 in a very tight struggle. Shots 13-12 RPI.
Badger D player trips over the refs skate (or the ref gets in the way of the Badger D!) causing the puck to go straight to a Gopher player, who dekes a shocker Badger goalie. 1-0, end of one period.
Just horrible, bad luck.
Wisconsin ties on a PP goal, but Minn gets a goal to go up 2-1, at the end of two. The difference is still the 'referee trip' goal.
All the luck went Minnesota's way today. They don't need it.
. . . while UM did look like a 2nd ranked team especially as the game wore on...their skills became more apparent.
Wow... that's quite an analogy. Not saying it's not legitimate, but... wow.I'll be shocked if you see anther Gopher game on TV any time soon because the puck loves Dani Cameranesi in ways the FCC usually won't let you broadcast.
Hannah collected a pass and fired through Desbiens' five-hole
Correct -- low blocker. Cameranesi's shot also went in another spot that's hard for goalies to cover, tight to the body on the glove side, even if robertearle didn't like it.It actually went under her right arm and in.
I think it was more than that, if that was the case at all.
Difficult and disappointing game to watch...not much flow, very choppy. Three strange goals.
UW were often sloppy and slow...losing the puck off their sticks with no one around them and often very content to be beaten to the puck when it didn't have to be that way. Although Desbiens played well, UW sure didn't look like a 3rd ranked team to me while UM did look like a 2nd ranked team especially as the game wore on...their skills became more apparent.
Thats funny because I thought Wisconsin looked plenty fast, perhaps the fastest team MN has played all year. I also thought UW looked as good as any team MN has played all year, they looked like a solid #2 to MNs #1. Through most of 2 periods UW had a slight edge in shots It was choppy in parts but that was because neither team was giving an inch & breakaways were not going to happen.
I also agree with this. The pace was very fast throughout, or at least until the Gophers were able to take a commanding lead in the 3rd period. Until then, players on both teams had little time to make decisions with the puck and make a play. Two very good hockey teams competing very hard on every shift, and just from a hockey fan's perspective it was a lot of fun to watch. This one just happened to go the Gophers' way; they definitely got a few bounces that on another day might not have shown up on the scoreboard. Should be a great rematch tomorrow.Thats funny because I thought Wisconsin looked plenty fast, perhaps the fastest team MN has played all year. The final goal was into an empty net, so it's four goals on 20 shots versus a goalie. The most lopsided period was the second, where Vermont had a 23-5 shot advantage, but was outscored 2-0, one a PP goal.UVM 56 shots and 1 goal! UCONN 21 shots & 5 goals!
