2013 WCHA Final Five: end of hockey's great tournament

Re: 2013 WCHA Final Five: end of hockey's great tournament

Yeah it happened like 6 maybe 7 years go, not sure if the same guy owns it or not. I am pretty sure I heard he was arrested a couple of years ago for tax issues.

True. He's technically still in charge but his wife basically runs it.

I kinda like afternoons. Dollar beers until 6. Friday afternoons are a freaking madhouse, though. The frightening thing is I look around and think "wow...I'm the well-adjusted one here."

No...I work for a home shopping channel here in town. I know...I didn't know there was a home shopping channel here until I got the job. :)

Rick's is one of the few places in the Twin Cities I've never been to. When I still lived in Plymouth I went down there once in a while and was a Deja Vu/Dreamgirls kinda guy. Being way down here now it's just King of Diamonds because it's like 15 minutes from my house. ;)

Way too many winks in this convo for my liking.

Go ahead and pay $10 for a beer. We'll get hamboned for cheaper pre-game, and stay that way for the game, until the post-game bar-time. Silly SCSU fans.
If this year's tailgate weather is freezing then I'll be very happy for a warm pregame spot next year.

In all seriousness I am already planning out where I want to sit in that dive.
Dirty and I have already ordered our tickets. Hopefully we'll get center ice first row of the upper deck.

Only $20 in service fees per ticket! I paid $8 total in service fees for F5 tickets. Bleeping criminals.

AGREED!!! Especially when they call 'em "convenience" fees. . . yeah, the convenience for them to rip people off!!! I recently reserved three campsite spaces in NM for the end of the month and each one (each one!!!!) had a $9.75 fee on top of the $14 per-night charge. SMH.

Re: 2013 WCHA Final Five: end of hockey's great tournament

After last night, we might have all top seeded teams in the tourney. Winners last night include:

SCSU

Since I have not kept up on its' progress at all, is there a light rail stop by Ridder Arena so the WCHA fans will be able to join us as well?

Ouch, but the answer is yes. In fact the Central Corridor (aka lightrail from dt Saint Paul to dt Minneapolis) is only a couple of blocks from Ridder/Mooch. However, it's not a hop skip from the Xcel to the light rail. It's going to be a good 2/3 mile walk at it's shortest length. I runs along Cedar Street which is more of a short jaunt than a hop/skip.

Re: 2013 WCHA Final Five: end of hockey's great tournament

I made the mistake last year of attending the Final Five before the NCAA Regionals. The Final Five was festive and awesome (eventhough I watched the Gophers collapse like three story card house in front of a Dyson fan to the Sioux) and such a great time and place to watch hockey. Beer sales, Hockey Lodge full of gear, and a band playing (even if it's Uncle Chunk) and freedom. There was a real buzz doing on. Without the real drag of NC$$ politics and PR forcing sites and holding leagues accountable that are attached to other sports, a league can offer a great experience. This will be truly missed. Than I went to the Regionals which was a great result, but it felt like a buzzkill. Here's your seat, there's a pop stand, a mini donut stand, watch hockey and make sure you don't leave between games so you can walk around a cold, half lit arena. Now give us a S**T ton of money and watch Mr. Emmert talk about how the NCAA is about integrity, despite him getting a nice salary off of essentially slave labor.
