2013 "I was screwed by the NCAA" thread...

Re: 2013 "I was screwed by the NCAA" thread...

Personally I think Babson beating Norwich put Hobart out. I believe Hobart would have been the other C bid if Norwich won the ECAC EAST auto bid.

I think that the NU drop into Pool C was the final straw, but there is a good chance that Hobart was dead either way.

It would have been really close, but I had calculated it the other way - I think Babson got in by beating UMB. The boost to their SOS that they got by playing Norwich pushed them past Hobart. If UMB had beaten Babson, and NU beat UMB then Hobart was in.

Is this the first time the ECAC West champion didn't get an at-large bid? Or am I way behind?

Re: 2013 "I was screwed by the NCAA" thread...

So you really think a team that was 17-6-5 (10-5-3 in conference) "got screwed" being seeded behind a team that was 23-3-1 (16-1-1 in conference)? WADR, that's nutty.

Babson has had a good year and has played great against Norwich and had a great tournament, but given where they were at mid-way through the third period on Friday night I would think they are thankful to just still be playing hockey.

Yes, only because of their record against them (2-0-1) - including the biggest game of the year (so far) for them, the championship game. It's like Norwich wasn't 'penalized' at all for losing the championship. Shoudn't losing that game have cost them something?

The criteria look at the entire body of work for the season. If you win again, you win and go to Placid. If you don't why would you think you deserved to be champs?

Complaining about seedings is all about not trusting your team to win.

In the NCAA eyes, a playoff game is treated exactly the same as a regular season game. They don't care about the significance of it.

Re: 2013 "I was screwed by the NCAA" thread...

So tell me why we are feeling bad for UWEC? Not any different then what happened to SNC last year they had the play in game last year. As far as who is going to win that is a two way street. Either team is capable.

Head to head doesn't matter, UWEC is 2-1-1 head to head against St. Norbert, focus on the fact of what you have and not what you don't because you're in and now anything can happen! I believe the last two National Champions started in the play in round. Hopefully this year a play in team can make it three :)!

I think you are right...I had already "made peace" with Hobart's season ending after Babson beat UMB Friday night.

And, I agree with your other post with regards to Hobart. They were an exceptional team and had an exceptional season but they did not get screwed in any way. At the end of the day they did not have the numbers to get in. I think having ALL FIVE of their losses for the season come against ranked teams really hurt them. I lump them in with Neumann and Plattsburgh as teams that certainly could have gone deep in the tourney..if they just could have got in.

Besides your 2 wins against Norwich your SOS is low If you had more wins against ranked teams it would of ben better for you. Babson has a good guy between the pipes if he stays hot you could go a long ways.

Losing the ECAC East championship game probably cost Norwich in the seedings, but we'll never know. How much do you think losing the ECAC East championship game by one goal should cost them?

I guess that in your eyes all the losses and ties that Babson had don't count for anything.

Re: 2013 "I was screwed by the NCAA" thread...

Adrian has a better record, slightly better SOS and much better record against ranked teams. Seems like a no-brainer for the committee.
There you go using logic and reason in an internet argument.
Babson def got screwed. They beat Norwich twice this year and tied them once, but Norwich ends up with a first round bye, and Babson has to play a first rounder in order to have the right to travel to Norwich to play them!!!
Doesn't make any sense!!
gobabson, I'm a Babson guy, too - I was the photog for the paper/athletic dept. when they won it all a few years ago. But Norwich clearly deserved the first round bye. Their body of work is far and above Babo's this season.

When I saw the brackets I looked at it the other way. Norwich has 4 blemishes on their record this year, and 3 of them come at Babson's hands. I laughed, thinking Norwich must be pizzed that they must go through Camp Babo to get to LP. Norwich very definitely was punished by having to play the one team that has had their number all year long (assuming Babson gets by Wentworth).

That said, as much as I'd like to see it, I don't see Norwich losing again to Babson this year. I can't imagine they will be anything but rested and incredibly prepared for the return of the Beavers. I've got two brackets filled out - one with Babson beating Norwich and losing in the next round, the other with Norwich going to the championship game.

Re: 2013 "I was screwed by the NCAA" thread...

Absolutely! And even if the Norwich Asst. AD on the East Selection Committee recused himself, the presence seems to have had an influence. Maybe its just the venues - Kreitzberg vs Babson Skating Center...what a shame! Babson definitely deserved better.

Noone from Babson is complaining about the seeding. To be the best you need to beat the best, period. The focus on on Wednesday night not Saturday!

I am not sure but if the bracket was drawn up the way they normally are it appears to me that Norwich was granted the #1 seed.
My point is that the w/l's should add up and are used to get you in the tournament. Once they start seeding the tournament though don't you think head to head should come in to account? And don't you think losing a championship game should come into account? Norwich's w/l's defintely was good enough to get them in to the tournament as an at-large, but I feel they should have felt some pain for getting in losing the automatic bid.

But that's ok, we'll be there cheering Wed night and hopefully Babson will be able to earn the right to go back and try to do it again at Norwich.

Enough fighting about this, good luck to everybody!

Re: 2013 "I was screwed by the NCAA" thread...

I think Montclair States women's basketball has the biggest complaint against the NCAA this year. They are undefeated on the season including wins over Regis and Lebanon Valley in the NCAA tournament. They had to get those wins in Annville, PA because the NCAA wouldn't allow them to host due to the fact that the state of New Jersey is trying to legalize gambling. I don't think they are good enough to beat some of the top tier teams like Depauw, Amherst, Hope etc. despite the fact that no one has been able to get within 13 points of them this season. But they earned the right to host at least the first two rounds but got screwed because the NCAA and New Jersey don't see eye to eye on gambling.
