Re: 2013 Golf Season - Does it leave you scratching?
Gotta love NBC Sports. The Presidents Cup matches are on delayed tape. Guess they're gearing up for the Olympics.
Understandable reaction, but in this case the real culprit is Mother Nature. Tee times for the last round of matches were moved up to try to beat yet another rain storm. I'm guesing the PGA made the call on the earlier start. Turned out to be a great decision. We got through the Sunday matches with little more than the odd sprinkle. On the way back to the car, about 4:00 PM Eastern, it started to rain. By 6:00 PM Eastern, it was pouring.
Could NBC have been more nimble, and started its coverage earlier as well? Perhaps, but you're asking them to do so on less than 24 hours notice. And had they done so, they no doubt would have received complaints from viewers of the pre-empted programs, to say nothing of golf fans who tuned in at Noon, unaware of the time change at Muirfield Village. There was no perfect option, but NBC probably chose the lesser of the evils.
Personally, I've been rained on enough over the last 4 days to keep me satisfied for a long, long time. At least until next Memorial Day.
Forwarding info from the local weather guys: While rainy golf at Muirfield Village has certainly been a tradition, this amount of rain in October defied all the odds. According to one report, we had 18 consecutive days of dry weather and mostly mild temperatures immediately prior to the tournament. Another source checked weather records for the last 20 years, and found out that for the dates in question, this was the #1 rainiest year. We're also apparently 3 inches of rain above normal for the month. Unreal.
