2013 Golf Season - Does it leave you scratching?

Re: 2013 Golf Season - Does it leave you scratching?

I was in the area today, so I stopped by Whistling Straits. This photo does't do justice to how cool what I could see of the course was...

Wish my game was worth the $185 greens fee plus caddy fee, caddy tip and ball spotter fee.

The place looked amazing. Hard to imagine a major taking place there though as the clubhouse, while stodgy as you'd hope, was small and the lot can maybe hold 50 cars.

Glad I stopped by. Maybe I'll come over for a day the next major that's there.

I'd be happy to just ride along with a group a photograph the place.

Today, I had only a few moments to shoot as the kids were waiting in the car and it was over 90 out - car running, ac on, of course.

Re: 2013 Golf Season - Does it leave you scratching?

So I picked up the new TaylorMade SLDR yesterday and played in the afternoon. My drive went probably 20 yards further, so that was a lot of fun. I actually drove it through the fairway twice. However, as the round progressed, I wound up taking a couple of divots with my driver...and that was pretty painful for my shoulder. I'm not quite sure what I was doing. I choked up on the club a bit to compensate, which seemed to work. Although, that doesn't explain how I managed to hit the ball relatively well the first 2/3 of the round. Perhaps I'm putting too much weight on my leading foot? I don't really know, and I thought maybe some people here would have ideas. I am going to the driving range tomorrow (followed by 18) to work on it a bit more.

As for my round, it was okay. I've been struggling with my putter of late. On Monday, I played, hit 13 GIR, but hit 38 putts en route to an 81. I normally have about 32 putts/round, and I missed a handful of 4-5 footers that I normally drill in my sleep, but my speed was way off. I really should have shot in the mid-70s, which would have been my best round at that course. Yesterday, I had 36 putts en route to an 85. I didn't hit as many greens, but my speed was way off once again. Needless to say, I am hoping for better results when I go out tomorrow.

Were you golfing with anyone? If so, I wonder if they saw any change in your tempo? Sometimes when I'm getting a lot of distance off the tee I tend to creep a little on the downswing and lose tempo. I think it might be because I get a little greedy about distance without being aware of it.

But then, if you saw my game, you would know I'm the last guy you want to listen to.

I was golfing with a buddy, but we play match play, and he didn't say anything about it...other than saying at one point he thought I was rushing.

I could very well have been trying to get too much distance.

59 for Furyk today at Conway Farms. Even had a few hiccups along the way with a couple lipped putts. Phenomenal.

Meanwhile, head up his posterior, Rory McIlroy shoots 77/76. Guess he wants to party with Carol next weekend.

Played more golf last week than I did in all of August. I think I'm turning into a binge golfer. It's been one of those years that I just can't get out consistently and get any kind of rhythm going. Played in two scrambles and won one and just missed the $ in the other. Played three other rounds and broke 80 for the first time. The potential is there if I could just get out routinely. Work....it's the curse of the golfing class too.

Agree, work puts a crimp in my golfing career...I'd probably be finishing up the BMW Championship today if I didn't have to pay the bills. ;)
Hoping that the fall provides a better opportunity to get out there.

Just home from league playoffs . . .

One of the things I've always appreciated about golf is that it teaches humility. Well I'm so **!@#** humble right now, Mother *&##$* Teresa couldn't be more !!**^%&** humble. I'm up to my *$$ in humble.

**% B&!!#* game!

Where's the dog.

Happy 100th Anniversary of your US Open win, Francis!

Re: 2013 Golf Season - Does it leave you scratching?

It's long past time that this needed to be addressed.
Right now, golf finds itself at a breaking point. The yelling has spread.

Yelling has taken over golf fans like the zombie virus in “World War Z.” I’m picturing Tim Finchem in a bunker somewhere showing one of those graphics where it has the infection spreading over the U.S. over a determined timeline.

“And this is what it will look like in three months, and this is what it will look like in six months. And in two years, we’re looking at a total loss here.”

His advisors would appear horrified. You know how these things go.

The bottom line is that the Tour is reaching a breaking point. I watched a round recently where a fan followed a player around and yelled after every single shot. Drives, irons, chips, etc. Every. Single. Shot. And this wasn’t Tiger Woods, either — just a normal Tour player.

Hi. My name is burd, and I swing a golf club in my mind every day.

Re: 2013 Golf Season - Does it leave you scratching?

somedays I feel like Lawrence of Arabia. Others, I think I am Jacques Cousteau. Rarely do I feel like Fred Couples.

Whomever I am, I'm still enjoying my day on the course.
