2013 Golf Season - Does it leave you scratching?

Re: 2013 Golf Season - Does it leave you scratching?

I've noticed that around here (Michigan) the courses keep the greens fees low, but charge like 15 dollars for a cart, so I've started walking more. I haven't done it when it's 90 degrees out though. Still our greens fees are particularly low which I like. You can play a championship course for 50 bucks or less.

Yeah, most of the courses here in Colorado do similar things (i.e. $15-20/cart).

I played my first real round (played 9 holes early in January) of the year a couple of weeks ago, and despite not having really played in about 6 weeks, I shot an 89, including a front nine 41. Had it not been for shanking a 5-iron into the green-side bunker, and then using 3 shots to get out before 2-putting for a triple bogey on the 8th hole, I would have had a very serious chance at breaking 40 on a nine for the first time ever. It didn't hurt that I played the first 5 even par. :)

As for weather, I'll agree with manurespreader...I'll take cool and playable over hot and unbearable every day of the week :p:D:D

Some of the diehards from our men's league played into mid-December. It was usually in the mid-30s when we teed off but warmed into the 40s on the back nine. With all of the thermal wear available today it's easy to stay warm in those conditions.

That's the joy of living on the Front Range in winter -- golf one day, skiing the next.

I'm sooooo jealous! :D

Thought I'd post this here for all you golfers:

Re: 2013 Golf Season - Does it leave you scratching?

Lovely weather in the desert for the Accenture Match Play Championship.

Legendary champion and designer Jack Nicklaus integrates strategy, variety and beauty into his Signature Course at The Golf Club at Dove Mountain in the lush Sonoran Desert.

Lush my backside! Today's forecast for Marana, AZ:

Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. High near 48. Breezy, with a south southwest wind 13 to 21 mph becoming west in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 33 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%.

Better bring snowshoes if you're playing Oakmont on Friday. ;)

Word is the accenture match play championship is looking at moving to a new course, for a variety of reasons. Few fans go, it's cold on top of that hill and the course is not well liked by the players.

Also the PGA is coming out against the ban on anchored putters, and VJ might be on the hot seat this week. It's pretty obvious he was looking for an edge.

Re: 2013 Golf Season - Does it leave you scratching?

It was great seeing Ian Poulter losing two matches today, was getting sick of hearing how great he is at match play.

Re: 2013 Golf Season - Does it leave you scratching?

I think they should follow through to ban anchored putters. Never liked the idea and I think this is one facet of the game that should be uniform. they get into such precision about driver faces etc. I don't see why they wouldn't seek consistency on something that decides who gets "the dough".

Playing down in St Thomas in a few weeks. Will get in 1 round while family is doing other stuff, rest of time I need to be a good dad and husband {sigh}

Hmmmmm, I can see it now: "Scenic nature and wildlife tour in a 4 wheel ATV...frequent stops to enjoy the scenery with a break mid-way through the tour for refreshments. Collared shirt required"

That may work, it just may work!!!

Re: 2013 Golf Season - Does it leave you scratching?

I'm also in favor of the ban. However, there are a lot of old geezers, that can't lean over any longer. They are making a lot of noise to their pro, and they are a large portion of the clientele lets be honest.
I think maybe you ban it for any tournament play, but allow it otherwise. That way if you are a serious about competitive golf it's not allowed but if you are a duffer it's ok. But i'm in favor of bifurcation too so..
