2013 Cycling Thread

Re: 2013 Cycling Thread

I'm not sold on the Moser/Peraud/Smukulis mix and have been stewing all week over how to make it better. If anything changes it'll be among those 18 points.

Christopher Froome SKY 26
Richie Porte SKY 14
Thibaut Pinot FDJ 8
Jakob Fuglsang AST 8
Peter Sagan CAN 18
Thomas Voeckler EUC 8
Moreno Moser CAN 6
Gatis Smukulis KAT 4
Jean Christophe Peraud ALM 8

And one final bump:

League Name: USCHO
League Code: 24061830

Currently trying to find a way to have Contador, Sagan, Greipel, TJ and Voeckler

Re: 2013 Cycling Thread

For the record, this will be the first time I've built a velogames team that has two GC guys I hope to see get smashed.

I'm in the League, I like what I have!

Alberto Contador
Alejandro Valverde
Jurgen Van den Broeck
Thibaut Pinot
Marcel Kittel
Adriano Malori
Thomas Voeckler
Marcel Sieberg
Mark Cavendish

Weakest man in Sieberg but I'm hoping he gets some Greipel assist points or something...

Yeah, that looks pretty tough. If we can get a Spanish Armada lined up against Sky...and it works...that'll be an awfully tough team to beat.

Re: 2013 Cycling Thread

I think that Peraud has a solid chance to top 10 and maybe grab a stage. He is solid on the TT and a good climber. Of course he could get nuked in the TTT. I think Moser will be slaving for Sagan, so you are kind of hoping he gets in the right break...Smukalis is basically the same but cheaper, I didn't see any great 4 pointers, a change from the past. I think I got Malori but he is just a TT machine, I'm hoping for a top 5 there, maybe a break later.

As for my team, I think Conti will podium and Val has a great chance as well. He climbed will at Dauphine and always has the kick. VdB (the lesser) is always in with a shout for a top 5 and with the mountainous parcours so is Pinot (though he'll loose buckets in the TTT).

Edit: WOW, XYZ, you jumped hard on the Sky train...

Consider me a glutton for punishment. I hope it backfires immensely but I'm going to roll with it. Considering the way Porte has been TT'ing I consider him just as good of a bet as anyone else in that price range. On one hand I fear that the only way Sky is going to be stopped is if the thing turns into some sort of circus like it was in 2007, but on the other I'm also starting to get a vibe that we should expect the unexpected. Hmph, who knows....Froomedawg looks like he's down to about 49kg so I'm going to roll with his praying mantis like self and hope it doesn't work out.

I was a little leery of Pinot this year since he isn't going to get anywhere near the leash he had last year unless he really gets pounded in the TTs. Same goes for Rolland, but since I'm a FDJ guy and I really like Pinot I had to take him for eight anyway. Agree with your thoughts on the four pointers. Usually there are a few that stand out as good buys, but not so much this time it seems so I just took a decent TT guy and will hope for anything. Maybe some Purito assist points! Speaking of whom, I'm a bit surprised that no one has taken him yet.

My big problem at the moment is whether to keep Moser (who I think is a complete wildcard who might get freedom on the non-Sagan stages) for six and then decide between Kwiatkowski and Peraud for the last spot, or drop Moser to a four pointer and see what I can do with the extra two. Haven't found many options I like with that though I could get Bouhanni if I did, but I don't think that would be a net gain vs. Peraud/Kwiatkowski. Wish it would free up four as with so many sprint stages I would stick Kittel in the WC spot instead of a GC guy.

One way or another I have a strong feeling my two-year run as champ of this is soon to come to a screeching halt. :)

Re: 2013 Cycling Thread

Alright. This is final:

Christopher Froome SKY 26
Richie Porte SKY 14
Thibaut Pinot FDJ 8
Jakob Fuglsang AST 8
Peter Sagan CAN 18
Thomas Voeckler EUC 8
Michal Kwiatkowski OPQ 8
Gatis Smukulis KAT 4
Alexander Kristoff KAT 6

Stage one obviously going to be a free-for-all for the sprinters as they fight for a day in yellow. Wierd little 180 through two roundabouts with about 2km to go, but otherwise the final few km are straightforward. I've read the roads are somewhat narrow but can't really prove that's an actual fact. Profile:

Re: 2013 Cycling Thread

I saw an interview with Prudhomme and he said that he hope at least one stage ends with a sprint of less than 70 riders. I bet he is talking about stage 3, but still he is the race director, if you want something smaller with the GC guys involved, then climb a mountain. They are racing on Corsica, look at the course they've got for Critierium International...

I agree Porte is very well priced, but I can't take a Sky rider.

Finally, I already hate the NBCSC coverage. Roll just said this is the most diabolical final week he's ever seen. Guess he didn't see the final week of the 2011 Giro.

Oh, good, now His Yellowness talk. Time to find the race on the 'net. Hopefully its Kelly and Kirby!

Stage 1 starting to get strange.....the orica green edge team bus just hit the finishing banner and has been stuck at the finishing line underneath the structure for the last five minutes and the race is only about 15 minutes away from a finishing.

Lot of people just standing around not really knowing what to do.

Also Johnny hoogerland has fallen and then there is another crash too.

Absolute chaos right now!

And another crash with the madness of determining where they are going to finish...just chaos.

Greipel, Cavendish and Sagan all go down.

Re: 2013 Cycling Thread

Well, that was, ah, interesting? Kittel wins and everyone gets the same time.
Best line was "There is a fallen kangaroo next to the driver."

EDIT: Contador went down, don't know if he was hurt.
The Yellow jersey will likely be the first rider dropped tomorrow since Kittel can't climb a speed bump.

His jersey was cut around the shoulder. Sagan might have gotten it the worst.

I'm guessing Froome, Schleck, Porte, Rodriguez, Evans, TJ etc are okay?

Re: 2013 Cycling Thread

The late break holds on by the skin of their teeth. Looks like Tony Martin is the one most seriously banged up from yesterday.

I picked up Tour de France 100 at the library yesterday it has an overall history of the tour and then a breakdown of each of the individual tours winners, stages, routes etc. So far it's been very good.

Team time trial day! One of my favorite stages. OmegaPharmaQuickStep with an impressive time to take the early lead. Sky on the course now...

I'd take a omega win for points from my 4-pointer in Terpstra.

I wouldn't rule out SaxoBank yet; they have a very close split time.
