2013-14 Season predictions - the crystal bawl awards!!

Re: 2013-14 Season predictions - the crystal bawl awards!!

Adrian is hard to figure as they play virtually nobody during the season. They were impressive a few years back in the FF though. EC last year was like a semi-pro team with guys plucked from DI teams in a "win now" season. Hypothetically, if you put the top 5 eastern teams up against the top 5 western teams, the east is winning at least 3 IMO.

First off, the top 5 West v. East showdown will never happen because East teams rarely come out West to play. If you can't beat SNC in your own backyard you'll never beat'em at the Cornerstone. :D

Secondly, isn't the Primelink out East ?;) Just like the Final Four and most other Tournaments you'll use to try and prove your point.

BTW,One of the 'virtual nobody' teams that Adrian plays, Lawrence, lost to Adrian 3 times in the past two years by a goal and tied them twice. This past season Lawrence played Oswego in the Pathfinder, at Oswego of course:rolleyes:, and trailed mighty Oswego 3-2 after the second period. LU played nearly the entire 3rd period shorthanded. Surprise the Big 'O' won.

* Note that Lawrence's leading scorer didn't play in that game, and that LU only had 3 senior skaters last season, and had 12 underclassmen playing v. Oswego's senior laden squad. That game should have been a blowout after the first frame, but it wasn't.

Re: 2013-14 Season predictions - the crystal bawl awards!!

Did you ever notice how the Western guys like to leave out the fact that it's almost exclusively St. Norbert that is responsible for the respectability of the West...i.e. The "West" has won 3 of the last 4....or the "West" has owned the east in the Final Four !!! It's absurd. Take St. Norbert out of the equation for a minute and let's talk. WEC of last year was a one hit wonder (See Neumann '09)

Did you ever notice that it is typically not the SNC posters who make the claim. The SNC posters and fans know how hard it is to win the whole enchalata and respect the teams that they are playing, all teams that deserve to be there. It took SNC many years to get to the top and I believe it keeps the SNC team and its supporters a bit grounded in their comments.

Agree. Much respect deservedly to the west teams of the last few years. Also, years past, the Cards have played some mighty good western teams. Stevens Point , Superior for example.

Oswego beat them 7-2, that's a classy blowout

This is getting really close to sounding the drumbeat for the ECAC W juggernaut that we here from Fishman. The West (or ECAC West) is the best because they play the toughest teams in the land, and get some wins against whatever group is not the juggernaut with the tires being pumped. Just play the games.

Re: 2013-14 Season predictions - the crystal bawl awards!!

The last time the FF was in the West, both eastern teams lost in the semis. Good thing there's no more 3rd place game.

Re: 2013-14 Season predictions - the crystal bawl awards!!

My prediction for this year is that even fewer Western D3 hockey fans will be visiting, let alone posting, on this USCHO website. I base that statement on the following observations;

1) The inability to sustain any team thread other than one focusing on either SNC or Adrian.
2) The inability to even sustain any Western conference thread.
3) Even the participants in last season's NCHAMIACMCHA Pick'em were mostly followers of teams from the East.
4) Of the few frequent Western posters a vast majority of them are SNC and Adrian fans*. No other western team has more than 2 , and most have none, which explains #s 1,2,& 3.

*- I noticed the # of Adrian fans posting has dwindled over the last two years.

I have noticed the same trend over the past several years.
Possible reasons:
1 -- Lack of success on the 'National Stage' for western teams, other than SNC, Adrian and Eau Claire (last season), in recent seasons.
2 -- Teams that have qualified for the FF, in years past, ie. St. Thomas, Superior, Stout, River Falls, Stevens Point, Gustavus, etc. seem to generate some fan interest in the years they make a run, but fall away when times get a little tougher.
What ever happened to the Rowdy Crowd @ Point? We really enjoyed their loud behavior. Guess they all moved on..too bad..
I don't expect this trend to change much as time goes on...

That's what happens when the idiot who used to coach the team moves the opposing goalie to the far end for periods 1 and 3 all because of some childish superstition. Made it much harder for the students to get in to it. Add in the removal of certain cheers that were done with the band and I agree it isn't likely to change. Unlike Frank O'Brien did the new athletic director has done nothing to help foster the atmosphere that used to exist and I'm guessing he doesn't care much about it either way.

I would still rate the atmosphere @ the Willett above average, but way down from the RC days, for sure..

well then if they only played 2 periods they would have lost by 1......but they play 3 for some reason.7-2 final, dont hate:D...ps and if it ended after 1 period it would have been a 3-0 shutout...enough

Well, I wasn't hating, just pointing out to the 'admiral' that one of the 'virtual nobody' teams, as he referred to them as (would that be hating, or just Eastern Bias ), gave Oswego a little concern on their own ice. Those broadcasters were momentarily on edge.

Now if I was in hating mode, but I'm not, I just would've referred to the fact that Whitelaw will follow Bootsie and some other Oswego alums playing in the same minor pro leagues as those ' virtual nobody' guys from the MCHA. Just thinking .... really how much more talented are they????

Actually, that was yesterday's story, but since you brought it up.:p

Soon there will be many western posters ;)

Re: 2013-14 Season predictions - the crystal bawl awards!!

Final Four: Plattsburgh, SNC, Middlebury, Norwich

~ Geneseo finishes 4th in the SUNYAC
~ Middlebury wins the NESCAC
~ Norwich losses THREE ECAC-East games
~ Plattsburgh goes 15-0-1 in the SUNYAC
~ St. Norbert beats Adrian by a total of 8-2 in their weekend series @ St. Norbert
~ Elmira finishes 2nd in the ECAC-West
~ Eau Claire will win the WIAC
~ St. Thomas will win an NCAA game

You may want to wait until you see EC's roster.... From what I have heard there are some additions that aren't listed that will have everyone focusing on the transfers EC gets :-D. Can't wait for the season to get started!!!!

You may want to find new sources. Roster shows no new transfers. UH OH!

Re: 2013-14 Season predictions - the crystal bawl awards!!

Mankato and UNO, 2 from the old WCHA. So u'r UH OH is definitely warranted... Here come the Blugolds again!
