2013-14 Season predictions - the crystal bawl awards!!

Re: 2013-14 Season predictions - the crystal bawl awards!!

They've combined for 2 assists (1 each) over 25 combined games of Division 1 hockey, spanning 2 seasons each. Okay...

Re: 2013-14 Season predictions - the crystal bawl awards!!

Mirrors almost all of their transfers stat lines.. Hilarious how they're not a threat right now, but if the Blugolds have success again then the age, transfers, etc. gets thrown out there. You're probably right, they were just recruited to play for teams in the WCHA, I'm sure they're bums.

Re: 2013-14 Season predictions - the crystal bawl awards!!

Mankato and UNO, 2 from the old WCHA. So u'r UH OH is definitely warranted... Here come the Blugolds again!

Mantha, Pustin, and McCabe are fine players, but I'm not sure they were the secret sauce in last season's NCAA run.

Best of luck this season. Repeating is very difficult, especially coming from a conference void of an AQ.

Re: 2013-14 Season predictions - the crystal bawl awards!!

Mantha scored the game winner last year in LP and was very good for the Blugolds, McCabe was one of the best two way players in the country, and Pustin had some of the best snipes I've seen. Pretty good ingredients in the sauce. Pustin coming back should be better, the transfers seem to be better their second year. Graduating McCabe and Mantha will be tougher to replace than stats show. The WIAC doesn't have the AQ like the SNCHA or the MIAC, but until further notice the entire SNCHA is playing for a pool C bid (insert SNC here) competing against the rest of the DIII teams in the country while the WIAC is fighting for either a pool B or C (IMO I like their chances of receiving at least one bid). In any case, I can't wait for the puck to drop on the season and don't forget the WIAC / SNCHA split was all RIT's fault :-D!

Stephenson was the special sauce, as evidenced by being outshot 2 to1 in the NCAA Quarterfinal game in DePere.

Fact. Huge unknown this year for the Blugolds. Returning every D man except two should help. Scoring will be more of a wild card rather than goaltending IMO.

Well 2 weeks since you made that bold prediction , and these are my observations on it as of 10:30am today.

Only 3 of the top 15 threads are D3 West related.
1) 2013-2014 MIACWIACNCHA Pick'em- participants are one Westerner other than thread author, 6 Easterners.
2) 2013-2014 UW-Stout Season Thread... 2 replies, one each from the West and East.
3) Adrian 2013-2014 Season Thread.... 6 replies, 3 Easterners, and one Westerner other than the threads author.

Even this thread has a meager participation by western posters. A hand full of SNC fans, a UWEC fan, and an Adrian follower.

i doubt it's going to pick up much ,if any.

D3hockey.com has their ranking up for this yr,and very nice preview........Utica should be ranked higher:D:eek::confused:..........and begin:p

Re: 2013-14 Season predictions - the crystal bawl awards!!

Lets hope the top D-III teams fair better than the top D-I teams did the first three weeks of play.

With both rankings out, I am surprised how quiet it has been? Though I understand nobody having much to say since it is a long way to the end, and won't know anything about where teams are at for a while.

Did you click on that hyperlink? BTW, I can understand SOME fair weather fans, and losses to graduation, but I am VERY disappointed in the almost total absence of the once rabid Adrian fans - I hope that should Aurora produce posting fans, they remain posters.

Sorry you're dissapointed Larry.
Those early years and the lively discussions that spawned the Adrian threads faded when the MCHA qualified for the AQ.
The new Adrian posters that surfaced to support the program in their quest for a tournament invitaion were really outnumbered.

While Adrian threads were plentiful, and their fans were passionate, I would guess that over 90% of the posters that dominated were visitors.

I still have a great interest in DIII hockey and continue to strongly support the Adrian program. I follow the Fan Forum, but to very honest have not found discussions that interest me to the point that I care to join in.

And so as not to derail yet another thread with Adrian stuff......my prediction.

The new NCHA will send two teams to the dance....as St Norbert claims an at large bid.

Adrian defeats Plattsburgh 3-1 their first National Championship.
norm1909 & NorthernLite toast the finalists.:)

Nothing beats passionate fans, even fishy ones aren't bad - at worse they help expose misconceptions and ignorance, at best they stroke conversation.

I am disappointed that St Norbert had to hijack the MCHA, but it beats adding any legitimacy to the WIAC move to isolationism. In the end, the stronger conference made possible by the commitment to the sport by Adrian and now the merging of the big dogs should significantly boast the new conference credibility and make recruiting top caliber players by all coaches that much more easier. My fear is of it results in any more LVC's.

I would love to see an Adrian/Plattsburgh game - I only seen Adrian play against Potsdam. Of course, Plattsburgh would defeat them, but they are nevertheless a worthy opponent ;)

Re: 2013-14 Season predictions - the crystal bawl awards!!

The Adrian fans are still here and still keeping up on the threads. Most of us don't post lots of comments unless there is something that really applies to our team. It is a little interesting that so many from the East seem to think all the good DIII hockey takes place out there. We have some very good hockey being played out West (if you consider Michigan to be in the West) but most of those in the East never get to see us play. Since so many of the East schools are located so closely together it's easier to keep track of what' taking place with all those teams. We don't have any news of hockey in our local papers besides what Adrian is involved with. There is good DIII hockey taking place all over the country. It would be nice to have a larger field in the NCAA's but that's not going to happen. Because of that places like this will always be a place to voice our support, concerns, frustrations and show our support for our local team.

So just know we are still here and kicking and looking forward to the new season kicking off this weekend. Hopefully we will be able to make it out East in March.

GO DOGS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hear you... Yet it's amazing how some end-of-the-bench guys from D-1 can be instant standouts when they drop down to D-3.

I watch a lot of hockey at both levels, and a huge chasm in talent between them isn't evident to me, but the empirical evidence to the contrary exists more often than not.

As pertains to Life in general, "success" at the D-3 level is a relative term, and seems to be mostly about context.

Between the top 10-15 D1 programs and D3, yes, I'd agree. But I honestly think schools like Norwich, Plattsburgh, SNC, Oswego, Adrain, and Utica would be right around .500 in Atlantic Hockey right now.

I agree, some might try to point RIT's initial poor performance when they went from DIII to DI, but their final DIII team was NO where near the current caliber of Norwich, Plattsburgh, SNC, Oswego, Adrain, and Utica right now.

The AHA has also got a smidge better as well...is it Hockey East? No, but the league has got a little better. But yes, the top teams in DIII could at least compete with mid pack AHA teams.
