2012 Presidential Election Part 4

Re: 2012 Presidential Election Part 4

Not that it's relevant to the thread title, but.... My great uncle founded the biggest root beer stand in Madison, Wisconsin, and I was pretty much weaned on burgers and fries. My dad worked for the air force during the day, and several nights a week he managed the root beer stand. Sadly, my uncle believed that girl carhops caused the wrong element to hang around, so all carhops were guys. Great burgers, shrimp baskets, broasted chicken, and everything with fresh cut curly fries. Geez, I still miss it a ton. It's probably been gone for something like 40 years.

I have an idea how you feel. We didn't have drive-ins in "Leave it to Beaverville" where I grew up, but there was an A&W drive-in just a few minutes away. Great burgers. I think the carhops were guys, too, but I'm not entirely certain. I'm enough of an idiot that I recall occasionally ordering an orange float at an A&W stand! I said occasionally, okay?

There was a drive-in on North Avenue called Skip's. Motorcycles, hot rods, tattoos, tough chicks who probably "put out", duck tail do's. Never even thought about stopping in for a burger. Joint was always packed. Sort of a clubhouse for the rebels without a clue, most of whom are probably pediatricians or lawyers these days.

Didn't His Failureness' campaign just borrow 15 mil? By now we should all be aware that any ordinary, routine campaign activity engaged in by Romney leaves Rover "shocked. . .shocked." Not just a libstain troll, but a boring, repetitive, totally predictable libstain troll.

Looks like somebody's still bent about my jokes regarding the orderlies not changing your diapers on time.:D

You really ought to get some new material. It shows a certain lack of creativity, especially for one so "smart." Could be a former "community organizer" who also modestly claims brilliance, may soon be available.

No problem Grampa Simpson. Check this one out:

Is Old Pio really John Sununu? :

"Well, I think when you have somebody of your own race that you're proud of being president of the United States, I applaud Colin for standing with him."

-- John Sununu, in an interview with Piers Morgan, on Colin Powell's endorsement of President Obama.

My Parise people, are you really this literal? First of all it's fun as a parent to joke about, "I don't even recognize the math my kid does" even if you'd have no problem actually doing it. All of you with kids have never been stumped by a question by them? Really? It was a moment of levity and not literal self-deprecation. Of course if those of you without a sense of humor really want to drive this one home, our children are learning things at a faster rate than we did without question. My 4th grader is already doing algebra - I don't think I saw it until 6th and I considered a math major in college so math is not a struggle for me. Meanwhile my 3rd grader (he is 8) had bouillabaisse on his spelling list last week and had to use it in a sentence - I know plenty of adults that don't know that word. :)

As in "Stuart Scott was describing the positions in baseball to my spelling class...'you have first base, second base, third base and bouillabaisse'!!"

That kind of a sentence?

As for the intent of your post...not only on this board but amongst the parties and candidates themselves they are akin to Italian footballers, breathe on them and they fall to the ground writhing in pain.

Think any candidate could come out and say they like white bread without someone claiming that is a racist perspective?

Think anyone could mention that they loved coming home after school and having mom hand them a fresh baked cookie without the other side accusing them of offending women by implying they should all be home baking?

Could anyone mention that their old neighborhood was culturally diverse because it had Italians, Poles and Irish without someone claiming that means they don't understand true diversity and how they cleary disrespect the disabled, elderly and the entire latino world?

Re: 2012 Presidential Election Part 4

Everything you post is ironic...even when you dont mean it to be ;)

yah, if it's two sentences long and in a political thread ;). if it's a longer post, or in any other thread, probably not.

Sometimes when I scroll through here, it's almost like a form of demonic possession takes over and my personality changes....(especially if it's evening and I'm on my second glass of <strike>whine</strike> wine).

usually it's one of the Condescending Cognoscenti Chorale Participants who set me off (I do not consider you to be one of that august quintet).

it will be a relief when this election is over.

One thing for sure: there is so much passion and vitriol from otherwise reasonable people, it's a clear indication that we all rely (or fear!) far too much on government to influence our daily lives that we think having "our voice" in it is so essential.

I think Chuck Woolery put it in the best terms:

Re: 2012 Presidential Election Part 4

Assuming he gets IA (Intrade 61% likely), NV (80%), WI (75%), three paths for Obama:

1) OH (63%)
2) CO (49.5%), NH (57%)
3) VA (40.3%)

Ohio means Obama doesn't need to win Iowa.

Who is the grown up in the room?

Texas? Attorney General Greg Abbott is now threatening to prosecute any observer who breaks state law by getting too close to any polling site. "Failure to comply with these requirements could subject the OSCE's representatives to criminal prosecution for violating state law," he wrote.

South Carolina? "Whoever wants to come observe South Carolina elections, we welcome them," he told FoxNews.com. "We want our election to be as open as possible."

I'm curious as to why TX would bar election observers from its polling locations in the first place. Given the law, I don't really blame the AG for executing it, but it's an odd/ridiculous law.

Re: 2012 Presidential Election Part 4

Big batch of swing state polls:

Colorado: Obama 48%, Romney 45% (OnSight Public Affairs)

Florida: Romney 51%, Obama 46% (Sunshine State News)

Iowa: Obama 50%, Romney 46% (Gravis)

Nevada: Obama 50%, Romney 49% (Gravis)

New Hampshire: Obama 49%, Romney 46% (New England College)

Wisconsin: Obama 49%, Romney 49% (Rasmussen)

Colorado: Obama 51%, Romney 47% (Public Policy Polling)

Colorado: Obama 46%, Romney 43% (Project New America)

Colorado: Obama 48%, Romney 48% (Wall Street Journal/NBC News/Marist)

Florida: Romney 50%, Obama 49% (Gravis)

Florida: Obama 47%, Romney 45% (Project New America)

Iowa:: Obama 49%, Romney 47% (Public Policy Polling)

Michigan: Obama 47%, Romney 47% (Foster McCollum)

Nevada: Obama 50%, Romney 47% (Wall Street Journal/NBC News/Marist)

North Carolina: Obama 48%, Romney 48% (Public Policy Polling)

Pennsylvania: Obama 51%, Romney 46% (Rasmussen)

Virginia: Obama 51%, Romney 46% (Public Policy Polling)

Virginia: Obama 49%, Romney 47% (Newsmax/Zogby)

Virginia: Romney 47%, Obama 45% (Fox News)

Wisconsin: Obama 51%, Romney 45% (Public Policy Polling)

My thoughts: I think its problematic for Mittens when GOP pollsters themselves have him losing or tied. For example, its highly unlikely Romney ends up outperforming a Rasmussen or Gravis poll. Its more likely he underperforms it, which why if I were his campaign I'd be on the phone to Razzy telling him to give me an outside the margin of error result dammit!!! ;)
