2012 Presidential Election Part 4

Re: 2012 Presidential Election Part 4

I'm kind of hopeful that whichever side wins this thing-that it isn't even close. Otherwise there will be months of recounts, recriminations, charges, hanging chads, and all sorts of things that I cannot even imagine.

Re: 2012 Presidential Election Part 4

Explain the relevance of Bill Clinton per my vote on Nov. 6th? Or just throw another one of the many irrelevant bones you have for some previous non-conservatard in the political arena as clear evidence...of something.
Now just because OP constantly reminds people that George W Bush has nothing to do with this election, you think that he will make the same concession about Clinton? That presumes far far far too much...

Unlike Bush, Clinton is campaigning for this election. Not that it's directly related to the discussion at hand, but it's not entirely correct to say that President Clinton will not have an impact on this election.

Re: 2012 Presidential Election Part 4

Don't count the chickens. Carter was up by this much in 1980 around this time. Of course, he was also up in September; the tables had not turned, according to the poles.

I'm not counting anything. I referenced a comment made by Bob Beckel, who, unlike the rest of us, has hands on experience running a national campaign. He qualified his remarks by saying "if" the numbers were accurate. He's worried. In my experience, Beckel is a guy who says what he thinks. I recall one occasion where some libstain was (still) whining about Willie Horton, he pointed out that it was a legitimate issue. That Dukakis had inherited the program from his Republican predecessor, but also fought in the legislature to maintain it. It had become his program. Beckel could obviously be wrong here. But he's still worried. And that's what interested me most, not the actual Gallup numbers.

Very true-in fact it has appeared lately that i have been seeing more of Bill on TV than either our incumbent or the Secretary of State. Not sure what that strategy is at all. If trotting out some old timer to bring back the nostalgic good old days-then perhaps the GOP should bring out some Eisenhower descendent and the Dems can find another Kennedy to use.;) I don't think that either party wants to go back and use Jimmy Carter or Geroge W so maybe they should go back 50 or 60 years. :)

Hey, you never know, it could be like those "scientists" that are only paid if they say the melting of the polar caps will dawn a new ice age.

Nope-the melting of the polar caps begets "Waterworld"-man, didn't you just love the Deacon!!

Re: 2012 Presidential Election Part 4

Obama's still got a bit of breathing room between himself and a true Romney comeback. But he now seems to be doing everything he can to help "Mitt" out with that. The people ask for specifics on his plans for a second term and he gives us "Bindergate". Come on Barry, get your act together.

Nice joke....however, since the Arctic polar cap is floating ice, any melting there will not change sea level.

What we really have to worry about is the melting of land-based glaciers in Greenland and Antarctica. Given that summers in the southern hemisphere occur when the earth is closer to the sun, that could be a real serious problem.

Re: 2012 Presidential Election Part 4

Romney picks up another surprise endorsement over a niche issue, albeit a more substantive one than Scott Adams':

When you vote for president in 19 days, you aren’t really voting for Obama/Biden or Romney/Ryan. The real tickets are Obama/Bernanke and Romney/NotBernanke.

Let’s face it, the vice president has very little effect on your life. The Federal Reserve chairman, a job Ben Bernanke has held during the whole financial crisis, affects you enormously.

President Obama will keep Bernanke as chairman of the Fed if he’s re-elected. Romney has said — more than once and even in opposition to one of his advisers — that he’d get rid of Bernanke, a former Princeton University professor and author of the Fed’s very dangerous money-printing policy.

I’ve already told you that I will be voting for the Republican ticket this time around. Even though Romney hasn’t really come up with anything new that would fix the economy, Obama seemed out of ideas the minute the words “health-care reform” came out of his mouth.

So it really comes down to whether or not I want Bernanke to continue picking my pocket so he can use the yield I’m not getting from my savings account to bail out banks and help the folks on Wall Street continue to make money through stock-market speculation. [emphasis added]

When you look at it that way, Romney without Bernanke as head of the Fed is more in tune with the needs of the middle-class wage earner and saver than Obama is with Bernanke. [emphasis added]

Hey-I thought there would be no science on this thread. Just ridiculous political views and some sarcastic retorts. In any case i am starting to build my baloon so i can be ready to look for Dryland. ;)

Re: 2012 Presidential Election Part 4

Romney campaign also pulling out from NC. that one is a done deal.

the four point lead in PA. I'd like a closer look at that poll!

Well, if some of the predictions come true, we'll wind up with oceanfront property at least... or maybe we'll even be living on our own little island!

I'd invite you and Jenny to come live with us now that the kids are grown, except my daughter lives near the ocean in South Boston and she might need some dry land too..:(

HUGE advantage: Romney. I knew Bernanke's horribly irresponsible fiscal idiocy was costing us all a few steps on the standard of living meter, but was not aware that Romney had promised to get rid of him (years too late, but better than never). It's actually the best reason yet to vote Romney.
"A dropping tide lowers all boats" seems to be the Obama/Bernanke fiscal policy. In my view, Bernanke (along with Paul Krugman of the NYT, while we're at it) are the most dangerous threats we have to our way of life and should be dropped on an island somewhere. The money printing idiocy has to end very soon, or everything else is moot.

I really do not understand how these presumably college-educated people can see the repeated, disastrous results of "QE", inflationary money-printing, and think, "oh, it failed horribly... we must not be doing it enough; let's try again!" Stop the madness.

FF-We are currently right on the ocean here in NJ. But we have a home up in NY at about 2200 feet. We think that would be fairly safe. Our bigger threat there is bear and coyote. Appreciate the offer-could we bring all the cats with us?

South Boston? Spent part of my time teaching there at the Lemuel Shattuck hospital. With the large light skinned Irish population there spending all that time on the Cape-it was a very good source for teaching skin cancer surgery.
