Re: 2012 Presidential Election 5: Election Day Countdown

I have no problem with ID for voting, but that amendment was written terribly and left a lot of holes. That is why I went with no.

Re: 2012 Presidential Election 5: Election Day Countdown

Voter ID is redundant. Look at the requirements to register in your city/state. To bad in Minnesota we didn't get to vote on the stadium for the Vikes. The way NOs were getting tossed onto ballets the Vikes would be half way to LA by now.

Why did the youtube video I just posted 10 minutes ago get deleted? Its YOUTUBE.

What requirements? Register by post card? Register & vote the same day? You could (and people have) registered poodles and gold fish to vote. If it were like the old days and you had to show up at the registrar's office and produce ID (primarily to verify your age) for your initial registration, I wouldn't be so keen on showing ID's at the time of voting. Even so, the vast majority of Americans have ID, produce them for a variety of common, every day activities, and have no problem with the idea of having to produce those ID's to vote. And we can accomodate those who have difficulties of one sort or another. So apart from worries about losing votes, what's the problem?

IMO these are conservative ideologues who are terrified of 'communism' rather than smart money managers with legit concerns. Here's the thinking...folks who are smart money managers that had serious concerns would have been smart enough to know that Obama was a pretty decent favorite and got out well before now. Only those on the right would have believed the right media and that Romney would win...and then went into extreme white knuckle panic mode when they found out that they were snowed by Dick Morris and Karl Rove (again).

It probably goes a few hundred more points and then proceeds back up. It will be at that point that the ideologues will be relieved of their money.

I'm guessing you're essentially right. There's no real new information available today that wasn't available yesterday, except for the established fact of O's second term. Odds seem slim that the investor class somehow collectively forgot about the "fiscal cliff" until today, as it's being portrayed in some places.

You could ask someone favoring any of the candidates questions like that and you will find ones that are incredibly stupid.

That said, it did make me laugh. :)

I voted no because I agree with the GOP that the constititution is very important...but unlike the GOP, don't think we should try to amend it at every turn. It makes me wonder if the GOP really does respect constititutions.

Likewise, I expect laws to be voted normally and using state constitutional guidelines. Every time a law cannot pass by the means of the state constitution...I don't think that the legislature should look to do an end-run to try to get it passed via other means. Otherwise, why even have a legislature?

This. Both amendments merely being on the ballot annoyed me.

Are embedded videos against the rules?

It's certainly been done a lot.

I had to register yesterday. Guess what? I had to show an ID.

I'm confused about who the reported illegal voters are. Are they lone wolf voters double/triple/quadruple voting? Are there bus loads of people being brought to each polling place with a tons of fake bills?

If you are concerned about freakishly close elections during large elections, determine a winning threshold and settle the others by a coin flip. I'm sure there are far more counting errors than voter fraud.

"One of the great mistakes is to judge policies and programs by their intentions, rather than their results. We all know a famous road that is paved with good intentions. The people who go around talking about their 'soft heart', --I admire them for the softness of their heart, but very often it extends to their head as well."

That was one of the big issues (here in MN, that is) -- there were no particulars in the proposed amendment. It was to be worked out later in the legislature. What about overseas military? Trust us, we'll get to that. What about nursing home residents? Trust us, we'll get to that. What about college students? Trust us, we'll get to that. Call me cynical, but there's no way I'm voting for an amendment to the state constitution with no specifics, having to trust the legislature to fill in the details later.

Thank you for putting what I was saying into detail. Yes, I see the irony. :D

I was speaking generally. Not in reaction to an amendment proposed in a state that once voted for an idiot ex-wrestler to be governor.
