2012 Northeast Regional: Boston College, Air Force, Maine and Minnesota Duluth

Glad this was our bad game...Now time to rattle off three good ones. The rest of the teams are playing for second place. Nice job to Air Force. I knew they were good when bombing defenseless women and children, but who knew they could fight a battle against a team their own size? Off to the wild blue ditch!
Wow. Just wow.

Was that the oddest second period anyone has seen? Prefect karma for Herbert who dislodged the net and then scored the second goal. Credit to UMD for never giving up, that's experience for you.

BC will be very tough. But it is winnable for UMD. Here is to avenging UMD's triple overtime loss to Jerry York and BGSU in 1984! It's time for revenge! (I hope I have the correct year and number of overtimes)

Re: 2012 Northeast Regional: Boston College, Air Force, Maine and Minnesota Duluth

yeah, i get that. I used to root for all HE teams in the tourney with the exception of the one down the street (understandable i think) until i saw hoards of Maine fans gleefully cheering( like THEY had won ) when Michigan St scored the game winner in 2007. So, at that point, they joined BU on my short list of HE teams i can't root for............so, from this seat, the feeling is mutual:)

Same here, games I have gone to, BU and Maine fans like to gloat and cheer when BC falters in the NCAAs or FF games. They say it out loud when they see your BC gear on. I was there in Milwaukee and St. Louis, etc. BC will go it alone without them and you know what? Who cares at this point and we will not root for them when they are in tournament play. Recently at the HE Tournament semis, Maine fans beside me ask me who I will root for. I said we don't care who wins except you guys can beat each other up before we play you in the next game. The Maine fan, an older gentleman was nice about it, and I will be cordial to any fans who are nice to me but I cannot root for their teams.

'84 was 4 OT. '85 they lost to RPI in the semis in 3 OT. They did beat BC in the '85 3rd place game, however.

DHG and I were talking about the second Maine goal last night. It was the correct call and the rule is a good rule in theory. However, it's one of those rules that is for a situation that happens about once every five seasons and is rarely called correctly when it does happen. So what you run into is a situation where no one knows the rule, even the officials. That's what happened last night.

Herbert's goal was pure puck luck. My question is should he have called the bank off the glass? :D

Re: 2012 Northeast Regional: Boston College, Air Force, Maine and Minnesota Duluth

Saw the games at DCU in Worcester yesterday. Just a few observations from an old guy that has until recently played hockey most of my life (including the minors)

1. Majority of fans mostly middle aged. Most students and younger people closely connected to their schools, but no general hockey fans coming to just see the games
Some youngsters with their fathers.

2...Sparce attendence ? Two teams from as far away from the venue as possible, and the other as far away locally as possible ( Is this a policy to eliminate fans from being
able to attend games due to the cost involved)

3...Ticket prices ! Cannot imagine people in their teens and early twenties being able to afford ticket prices, parking, food, and other expenses. Too many other priorities.

4.. Are the games played at the DCU center because it is there ?, or because it is beneficial to the NCAA. If the games were in Boston, at least the Maine fans could have
taken the Amtrak "northeaster" from Portland.

5.. Four officials on the ice, (two short of another full team) yet they apparently are not allowed to determine if a goal is a goal without consulting some suit every time one is
scored. All of which is contributing to a dragged out event more resembling a marathon than a hockey game.

6...Inane electronic graphics on the jumbo screen. How much to contract and produce all of that stuff. Seems that the NCAA is spending more promoting its own image than
spending money where it should be going. Is it really necessary to take down banners, paint the ice, cover the boards. Perhaps if the NCAA were to build its own Arena's
they can have it their way instead of disrupting all local color with their self serving arrogance.

7... Players showing great skill, however not wanting anyone to get hurt, the BC-Air Force game resembled an over 35 no check game. Am sure that the refs have their orders.

8.. Watched three A####### cut into a food line in front of a woman about 5'2" because their buddy was holding a place for them (do not know which team they were
cheering for) Just as well my friend and i are over sixty, other wise we would probably be in a jail cell for duking it out. All things considered it was a good day. Good luck
to BC and UMD

Sorry to Air Force on that terrible call. Would have liked to seen that last minute played 5 on 5 like it should have been.
Agreed.

Terrible call... handed BC that game.
It was an awful call, and it certainly took away any chance AFA *might* have had. But there's still no denying that the better team won.

Wow... You're the worthless type of person who spat at my dad when he came home from Vietnam. Unfortunately you are too much of a coward to wear a uniform, and make these statements behind the anonymity of a message board. Go live in Iraq or Afghanistan and enjoy the company of the "defenseless women and children." I'm just glad aholes like you are in the vast minority in this country.

I was gonna say "Go BC" but you have soured a decent victory with your insult to our proud servicemen and women. Disgusting!
Don't let this one idiot represent the BC fanbase for you. They are a great group and were one of the most welcoming fanbases I've been around.

Sigh.

I'll try and redeem this thread with a short story of how, during one of the TV timeouts when the arena was quieter than normal (so, really REALLY quiet), after we heckled the Air Force goalie for 50 minutes or so I yelled "TORFFFFFFFFF!!! THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICEEEEEEEEEEE!" He heard me, turned around, gave us a nod and a wave, and went back to doing his thing. It was cool; we were pumped.
Awesome! And classy.

AFA is my second favorite team, and I'm proud as always of the way they represented themselves against a more talented opponent. This team proves time and time again that they deserve to be here. It is an honor to watch this program year after year, and there isn't a coach in the nation who gets more out of his players than Frank.

Congrats to BC on a hard fought victory. As always, I appreciate the class that the BC fans handle themselves with both in victory and in defeat. I've said it before and I'll say it again: You are some of my favorite fans and more often than not, I cheer for your program because of the way I've been treated by many of you, both in person and on this board. So as usual, I wish you nothing but good luck!

It's an NCAA policy/rule that every goal in the tournament is to be reviewed. At least that is what the TV guys kept saying.

Your team still gives me nightmares after last year's curb stomping

Ah, but those officials did know the rule and called it correctly. And after the ridiculous, required review, confirmed it.

Re: 2012 Northeast Regional: Boston College, Air Force, Maine and Minnesota Duluth

Quick question: If BC is fortunate to make the FF, do they play the lowest seed left like FS or someone from the East bracket (Union) ?

1 BC - NE Regional

3. Union - East Regional

4 UND - West Regional
6 Minnesota - West Regional

9 Ferris State - Midwest Regional

We play the winner of UND/Minnesota.

Re: 2012 Northeast Regional: Boston College, Air Force, Maine and Minnesota Duluth

We play the winner of UND/Minnesota.

OK thanks, that guarantees Union or FS makes the final while the traditionally strong FF teams like BC, UND, Minnesota or a team like UMD knock each other off. Interesting, Union has a chance to be a NC.

Was there something not clear about my post? I mean "It was the correct call" statement can be taken a number of different ways.

Now you see why staying home watching it on TV/computer is the best policy.
