He's to the right of George W. Bush, so don't you mean they didn't realize he wanted to pull the country to the right?

He lives in opposite world where left is right, up is down, black is white and war is peace.

All our problems stem from winning that War. The south should have won.

We never should have fought that war. We should have let them seccede and then turn into Brazil when slavery was eventually abolished worldwide.

Instead we kept them as part of this country so that they can destroy it 150 years later.

He also has also has independants who didn't pay attention and realize that he wanted to pull the country to the left. He is a victim of his own campaign.

Nah, most independents are in the middle (left of Rep, right of Dem)... with the 20%+ disgruntled extreme right or left.

It's the same reason why Ron Paul is resonating with the independents (and some Republicans) in the primary. basically all the things that Obama promised and didn't keep. accountability (banks, fed etc...). liberty (patriot act, gitmo, TSA etc...), tired of war (Paul gets more donations from vets-military personnel)

Looks like pundits might be right about 2012... that FL, OH, PA, MI will be key. Obama won the 2008 election with 8million + (53%) but lot of the states flipped blue with less than 1%, like FL with 200k, NC with 14k, IN with 25k ... (FL, NC, VA, IN, MO, CO, NM)

so if enough (2million) independents in these key states flip back to Republicans, he could lose the electoral and still win the popular vote by 6million.

I'm surprised democrats never pushed for popular vote for president, although I can see why they don't want a viable 3rd party candidate. I think they might get some traction among independent-swing-drowned out voters in deep blue/red states.

Not really. There was a great analysis several hundreds of posts back that demonstrated that "Independents" almost all vote just as straight ticket as declared party affiliates -- we just don't like to be labeled.

No, we just shouldn't have let them back in the Union. Turn them all into little Puerto Rico's and Guam's.

I think they'd turn into Somalia and the few intelligent people down there would be doing whatever they could to live in a first-world country. We should have let them have their low taxes, slavery, and moonshine and built a concrete wall to keep them out.

Wow, nothing on Romney's screw up yesterday? Or, perhaps that means that I'm right and you can't possible screw up by admitting you're rich and you don't pay taxes. After all, everyone is delusional enough to think that the single mom down the street is going to be the next Mitt Romney.

Re: 2012 Elections Pt II: Bachmann Turned Me Into a Newt! A Newt?

It's not exactly surprising that a presidential candidate (or Senate candidate) is rich. Most of them are millionaires many times over.

If nothing else, it just calls attention to the curious policy of having the income subjected to the payroll tax capped. They should uncap it and lower the rate.

I'd support that idea.

I like that he thinks $374K is "not that much." Considering how little he thinks of it, he can give it to me.

That's the comment I think will get him in the most trouble. His "not much" is 7 times the median wage.

Outside of the war where has he been so far right? Bush is no bastion of conservativism either.

Every other thing Romney says unfortunately just underscores his persona of dickishness. His best campaign strategy would be to go back to one of his five homes and just let the barrage of ads sell him like a Coke product.

At all costs, he should never open his mouth. It's like the old James Baker line to Dick Cheney when Cheney asked him "how come I make such a bad first impression?"

"It saves time."

I'm honestly surprised nobody has thought to introduce the bill in Congress. Hell, they could have the CBO study it and make sure it's revenue neutral. Of course, given the fact the GOP controls the house (for now), it'd never see the light of day there.

Obama has yet to pass significant far left legislation. Despite the hand wringing of the right the Health Care law was a compromise bill. Bush supported and signed two far left bills during his time in office.

Last time I checked we don't live in a dictatorship. Just because he wasn't able to get things passed doesn't mean he wouldn't have signed them given the opportunity or didn't push for leftist causes.

That's not the point. The point is the record not the rhetoric. On record he stands far right of GW Bush. That's a fact.

So you're saying that if single-payer was going to pass through the House and Senate he wouldn't have signed it?

Again, he isn't a dictator.
