Awesome. Lithgow played one of the best serial killers of all time in Dexter season 4.

Huntsman will reportedly drop out tomorrow and endorse Romney.

Can't say I blame him.

This was his practice run for 2016. He's waiting for the derpfest to consume itself, then he can come riding over the horizon as the savior.

Didn't agree with all of his policies, but he seemed like the most reasonable guy out there.

I always had the idea that the Romneys and Huntsmans secretly hated each other -- but that a lot of it was inside baseball (Mormonism, Utah politics) that the rest of the country just didn't "get."

But maybe not. If there is no feud, then this makes a lot of sense. Gingrich, Perry, and now Santorum are going scorched-earth to try to take Romney's S.C. vote down a few points. A Huntsman endorsement doesn't carry a lot of weight, because Huntsman doesn't have a lot of voters. But even a couple percentage points right now is a nice prize when you're on defense. The timing of the endorsement maximizes what little leverage Huntsman had. I wonder what he managed to get?

Either way, it's a good day for Romney. This makes it that much more unlikely that anyone catches him in S.C. And if Romney runs the table in IA, NH, and SC, I don't see any way that he loses in FL next week. This state (FL) is really expensive. There's too much ground to cover and too many media markets to try to saturate. For anyone to give Romney a run here, they'll need a ton of cash. Romney will have it. I'm not sure anyone else will.

I'll agree with that assessment. best series.

I expected Palin to be a populist...so 3rd Republican wants accountability. Is there hope? for Republicans? for our country?

It'll be interesting if someone other than Romney wins SC.

"Sometimes it gets rough and tumble as you try to hold these candidates accountable for what they are claiming," Palin said in an interview with Sean Hannity on Fox News Channel Wednesday.

Asked about attacks from Texas Gov. Rick Perry that Romney is a "vulture capitalist," the former Alaska governor said Perry is just holding his rival accountable.

"This isn't about a politician making huge profits in the private sector," Palin said, adding "I think what Governor Perry is getting at is that Governor Romney has claimed to have created 100,000 jobs at Bain and people are wanting to know is there proof of that claim?"

Just remember. Romney is winning because the Tea Party/Social Wing couldn't find anyone not derp enough to run.

Oh, they found plenty of people, they just wasted all their time derping each other right out of contention.

No, I think that stuff about them not liking each other very much was probably true. But hey, there's a secretary of state position to be angled for, so bygones are bygones I suppose. Besides, who else was he going to endorse?

Re: 2012 Elections Pt II: Bachmann Turned Me Into a Newt! A Newt?

I think I read somewhere (can't completely vouch for it) that either Maine or Nebraska's districts were redrawn such that the GOP might pick up a vote.

The GOP proposed a new congressional district map that would have made a GOP win in the second district very likely. The plan moved Lewiston (Maine's second largest "city") into the first district making the second district even more rural, and it also moved Chellie Pingree's hometown from the first district to the second. Outside of Lewiston, most of Hancock County, and some of the greater Bangor area (especially Orono) the second district is pretty red. They claimed they made such drastic changes to the district boundaries so that they only had to split one county between districts, but in the end they went with something closer to what the Democrats wanted, which only moved a couple towns around to re balance the districts. I don't think the new districts offer any advantage to the GOP, however I still think Mitt has a shot at winning the second district and getting one electoral vote. I don't see him winning in the first district, or the statewide popular vote.

This reminds me how long it's been since I lived in Maine. I thought Lewiston was fairly red (evangelical catholics), but maybe things have changed. Or my memory is garbage. Or both.

I dunno. He could have sat on his hands. He could have waited. To leak an endorsement for the front-runner before making a formal announcement that you're out? That suggests that he thinks he has another run in him in the future - the guy wasted no time getting on the bandwagon, and he even timed his announcement to help give Mitt something other than Bain to talk about this week.

If he is building up for another run, for his sake I hope he hires a campaign manager with a clue next time. Otherwise the same thing will happen again...

I think sitting on his hands would have invited a whole lot of "Third party!" speculation that he probably wanted to avoid.

As for giving Mitt something other than Bain to talk about, it's interesting that Romney really isn't embracing the endorsement - not going to announcement event, his media people touting an endorsement from a Florida Rep. instead, etc.

I'm sure he is touting it among the "right people" (people in international finance, donors with big China connections, foreign policy and diplomacy wonks). He has to stay on message in places like SC and FL, and that means wooing the type of voter who would have hated Huntsman.

A nomination is always a great tight rope act.

Re: 2012 Elections Pt II: Bachmann Turned Me Into a Newt! A Newt?

Sadly, Huntsman (outside of Ron Paul) was the only small government conservative left in the race.

Anyone who thinks anything is really going to change under Romney is delusional. The lost decade will continue another (4) years bringing it's total to (16). I don't think the middle class will survive it.

Outside of Paul, Huntsman was also the one remaining candidate who wasn't going to sweep the Bush foreign policy team back into government. It'll be especially bad with Romney. With his troubles with evangelicals, you can be sure he's going to set the neocon suck-up dial to 11.

Absolutely. Neocons back in the White House. Just what Planet Earth needs.

alternate version?
That works too.

I've been convinced for years that the baby boomers were going to make damm sure they spent every penny before they left. Every penny includes whatever they could beg, borrow, or steal.
