2012 Elections Pt II: Bachmann Turned Me Into a Newt! A Newt?

Problem is, the full on anti-Obama dementia revolves around health care. Mitt can't bring that to the battle. That's why the others won't get behind him.

That and he's not a real Christian.

Very good point. Romney as the nominee gives up their strongest rallying cry which is health care. He's going to get blasted by the press when he claims it okay for require Mass citizens to get health care but its not okay for everybody else. Pick a side on this issue and still with it Mitt.

He also gives up the foreign policy issue and the Christian warrior one. While I think its a great think that this country can nominate someone outside of the mainstream religious practices, an event you will most likely not find anywhere else in the world, I'll be real curious to see how well Evangelicals turn out for the guy.

You were more interesting and easier to talk to when you were trying to convince us all the Wisconsin GOP wasn't out to destroy the unions. You were misguided, but at least then you were interesting.

And I was right, and continue to be right. Have a great day.

Well, yes, of course. Romney has spent the past 5 years running for President, Rubio hasn't. Of course many people won't have heard of him. I'm not saying Rubio could jump in right now and win - that's silly.

Just making the very general point that there is no reason to think 98% of America find him unpalatable, which is what I was originally responding to.

Point taken.

I guess we can't make any more Bachmann/corndog jokes with her dropping out. :D

And now for something comletely different: Pat Robertson's predictions for the new year. God, it seems has revealed who the next president is going to be. But doesn't want Pat to share that with us. And in an apparantly lengthy Q and A session with the diety, Robertson has learned what the big deal problem we're facing this year. This is the guy who publicly proclaimed that he had prayed a hurricane away. And recently wondered whether macaroni and cheese was "a black thing." And blamed 9/11 on ho-mo-sexuals. Perhaps he could repair to the top of a prayer tower somewhere and claim God was going to "take him." Oh, wait, that was that other ****** nozzel.

Right. The Wisconsin GOP is trying to help the unions.

In the same way a lion tries to "help" a gazelle.

The sobering thing is that guy got filthy rich pedaling that stuff. According to Wikipedia he is worth at least $200M.

Robertson is to Televangelists what David Duke is to the Klan: much smarter, much better businessman, able to palm himself off as "moderate" and "reasonable" while pedaling the same old shiza.

So, you actually mean to tell me that in 2007-2008, liberals did not like Barack Obama? There's revisionist history, and then there's that statement.
Oh, in 2007 and 2008 liberals LOVED Obama. Now...notsomuch.

Plus, he doesn't even have to make the pretense of being a liberal this time. In a contested nomination you have to at least make some promises to your base. This time he is free to run right up the middle. 2000 is fresh enough in liberals' minds that they won't risk a sit out.

With the general taking up all of 2012 and then the likelihood of a Republican House and Senate after November, we may be signing up for three more 2011s. Some arsenic with your popcorn? ;)

I would expect the anti-business (anti-Obama) angle to be played as well. Whether you call that dementia is going to be a matter of perspective...not everyone will agree it is dementia.

I would also expect the GOP to come up with some answer on why what Romney did wasn't the same as what BHO did with health care. It doesn't have to be 'right', it just has to separate the two of them in 7-10% of the voter's minds.

That's easy. lower taxes=job creation. especially for job creators (corporations, business, investors). so lower corporate tax rate, lower top income tax, lower(zero) capital gains tax. lower (zero).
Less regulation=good for business=job creation.

Not sure how they can spin the health care thing when Obama supposedly consulted with Romney people for his health care bill. Unless there is a differences he can point to... one size fits all argument is pretty weak, so I wouldn't even bother attacking Obama care if I was Romney.

I would love to see Ron Paul win one of the states, just to see the reaction/spin by the media... they (media) really really don't like him

Jon Gruber, an MIT economist who advised the Romney administration on health care and who attended five meetings at the Obama White House in 2009, including the meeting with the president. “They really wanted to know how we can take that same approach we used in Massachusetts and turn that into a national model.”

Romney has forcefully defended the Massachusetts law he signed, but says he is adamantly against a “one-size-fits-all national health-care system”

Tax cuts for "job creators" has created so many jobs in the past decade we're having trouble filling them all.

I do think that many people equate Obamacare with 'something bad'. Most couldn't explain why but there has been enough complaining and complexity that I suspect Joe Average thinks it was a bad idea. It is a huge component of what Obama has done in the WH so I don't think the GOP leaves it alone. Maybe it is in that last quote and they turn it into "hey it was a good idea for a state at the time but a terrible idea for a country in a recession in 2010"

Not disagreeing with you, per se, I just think they won't be able to resist the urge to attack the incumbent on this issue and will find a way that works with voters without dragging Romney full into it.

I always assume the lowest common denominator in campaigns and am rarely disappointed. ;-)

Prove it.

Havent you seen how well our economy has grown since the Job Creators got their tax cuts? I know I have been rolling in the dough! I mean the only thing better than the economy right now is being in a Wisconsin Union! All those rights to collective bargain were just getting in the way anyways :p
