Re: 2012 Elections Part I: All Politics is Yokel

If the economy is about as good as it is now...or any better...Obama is back in.

The economy's doing great, and with all of Obama's other achievements (killing bin Laden, health care reform, bringing the troops home from Afghanistan), no challenger has a chance. The GOP might as well run Bachmann since she'll be a sacrificial lamb.

Re: 2012 Elections Part I: All Politics is Yokel

I didn't realize she emits noises.

If you want her voice out of your head, substitute her look-a-like:

zooey-deschanel.jpg

Zooey also sings. actress/singer.

Bachmann seemed to have gotten high marks from political pundits. And they also mentioned she interviewed well defending her position and leaving out some of the crazy comments.

I think it would be hilariously funny if she gets nominated and elected president. I wonder what the female voters look like with her pro-life : no abortion even for rape/incest view.

Re: 2012 Elections Part I: All Politics is Yokel

Palin's fanboys set the bar so incredibly low for a rightwing woman that Bachmann sounds like Lincoln whenever she shows any evidence of cognition.

Re: 2012 Elections Part I: All Politics is Yokel

If the economy is about as good as it is now...or any better...Obama is back in. If its much worse, Bachmann's chances of getting the nomination go down as the GOP look for a safer candidate with economic leadership background. IMO ger road is significantly tougher than say Romney or Perry. I still haven't seen a good poll for her from the south.

The Economy sucks. The door is wide open for Bachmann. If Perry and Palin stay out she wins Iowa easy and cruises in South Carolina and it's a wave to the nomination. She'll beat Obama in the general as well.

Re: 2012 Elections Part I: All Politics is Yokel

The Economy sucks...

In Nevada, Florida, Michigan, and Arizona. It's middling in a lot of other places and doing ok to fine in still others.

He wasn't going to win Arizona anyway, and Michigan isn't going to leave him regardless. Nevada and Florida are toss-ups, but the Ryan medicare annhilation probably helps Obama in Florida.

Re: 2012 Elections Part I: All Politics is Yokel

This is the 2008 results mapped on the 2012 EVs:

electoral.college.map.2008.2012.gif

It's probably safe to assume Obama won't pick up any states from 2008 (or if he does it's because of a movement that means he'll win re-election easily). The question then becomes, can the GOP candidate flip enough EVs (362-176)/2 + 1 = 94 to win.

Likely GOP pick-up: IN (11), NC (15)

Toss-up: FL (28), VA (13), NH (4), NV (6)

A sweep of those is 77, and the GOP would need 17 more. Either MI (17), OH (19) or PA (20) would work.

So: the rust belt. Again.

Yeah, and as much as it pains me to say it, it's verbal crack. I want to hate it, yet find myself humming it for the next four hours after hearing half a verse on the radio while driving to work.

By the way, thanks for freaking mentioning her in this thread. Now I have freaking "firework" stuck in my head again. B*stards.

Now it's "Walking on Sunshine" by Katrina and the Waves.

Ted Nugent will let her use his songs.

Ted Nugent, for one, would be happy to help out. In an e-mail sent Tuesday, the conservative rocker wrote: “Michele Bachmann is clearly a Great American. Her words have iron, her spirit is indefatigable and her beauty contagious. In a perfect world her ultimate campaign theme song would be WANG DANG SWEET [expletive] just to fire up America and prove that political correctness is laughable. But since her ‘we the people’ Tea Party defiance is tantamount to setting America back on a course of rugged individualism and Herculean productivity, STRANGLEHOLD is the only choice. Godspeed [Michele]. Let em have it!”

STRANGLEHOLD LYRICS

here i come again now baby
like a dog in heat
tell it's me by the clamour now baby
i like to tear up the street

now I've been smoking for so long
you know i'm here to stay
got you in a stranglehold baby
you best get out of the way

road i cruise is a ***** now baby
you know you can't do me 'round
if a house gets in my way baby
you know I'll burn it down

you ran that night that you left me
you put me in my place
got you in a stranglehold now baby
then i crushed your face

solo

sometimes you gonna get higher
sometimes you gotta start low
some people think they gonna die someday
i got news you never got to go

come on come on up; 4 times
come on come on come on come on baby
come on come on come on come on up
come on come on come on come on baby
come on come on come on

the road i cruise is a ***** now
you know you can't do me 'round
if a house gets in my way
you know I'll burn it down

you ran that night that you left me
you put me in my place
i got you in a stranglehold baby
then i crushed your face

Re: 2012 Elections Part I: All Politics is Yokel

This might be more fitting.

Well I don't know where they come from
but they sure do come
I hope they're comin' for me
And I don't know how they do it
but they sure do it good
I hope they're doin' it for free

They give me cat scratch fever
Cat scratch fever

Well the first time that I got it
I was just 10 years old
I got it from some kitty next door
Well I went and seen the doctor
and he gave me the cure
I think I got it some more

They give me cat scratch fever
Cat scratch fever
I got it bad scratch fever
Cat scratch fever

It's nothin' dangerous
I feel no pain
I got to cha-cha change
You know you got it
when your'e goin' insane
It makes a grown man cry, cry
Oh won't you make my bed?

Well I make a ***** purr
with the stroke of my hand
They know they`re gettin' it from me
And they know just where to go
when they need their lovin' man
They know I'm doin' it for free

I give 'em cat scratch fever
Cat scratch fever
They got it bad scratch fever

Cat scratch fever
Cat scratch fever
Cat scratch fever
Cat scratch fever
Cat scratch fever

Nugent sounds more like a Palin guy.

He has had two wives and has eight children, including three out of wedlock in two liaisons almost 30 years apart. In the late 1960s, prior to his first marriage, Nugent fathered a boy, Ted (Mann) and a girl, whom he gave up for adoption in infancy. This did not become public knowledge until 2010. The siblings were adopted separately and had no contact with one another. The son learned the identity of his birth father in 2010 through the daughter's quest to make contact with him and their birth parents. According to a news report, Nugent over the years had discussed the existence of these children with his other children.[26]

In 2005 Nugent was involved in a legal battle for not paying enough child support for a child he had out of wedlock in 1995.[27] It was finally resolved when Nugent was ordered to pay $3,500 in child support.[28]

He was married to his first wife, Sandra Jezowski, from 1970 to 1979. They had three children, son Theodore Tobias "Toby" Nugent, and daughters Sasha and Starr Nugent. Sandra died in a car crash in 1982. His second marriage was to Shemane Deziel, whom he met while a guest on Detroit's WLLZ-FM, where she was a member of the news staff. They married on January 21, 1989. Together they have two children, son Rocco Winchester Nugent, and daughter Chantal Nugent.

In 1978, Nugent began a relationship with seventeen-year-old Hawaii native Pele Massa. Due to the age difference they could not marry so Nugent joined Massa's parents in signing documents to make himself her legal guardian, an arrangement that Spin magazine ranked in October 2000 as #63 on their list of the "100 Sleaziest Moments in Rock".

What's wrong with abstinence?

Just because a section of the population is acting like rabbits, doesn't mean that they should.

Fortunately there's nothing at all hypocritical about a 20-year old unwed mother of a two-year old baby preaching to teens that abstinence worked for her.

Nothing actually, abstinence only education is another story...

So the other part is to be a rabbit?

Isn't that like giving a course on firearms safety and then sending you out to clean up the neighborhood?

In politics, perception trumps reality. Was the economy really that bad in the fall of 1992? No. However, enough voters thought that it was, so Clinton was elected. Something similar could happen in 2012, this time favoring the GOP candidate.

Re: 2012 Elections Part I: All Politics is Yokel

Obama's people will run "it's morning in America" ads that will make Reagan's look anarcho-fatalist. The GOP will run "oh noes The End Timez!" ads that will make the Goldwater daisy look like light summer comedy. Then the counter-spinners from each camp will immediately trash their opposites, nobody will change their mind, but the 8 billion dollars spent on attack ads will improve the economy enough for Obama to be re-elected. :)

Re: 2012 Elections Part I: All Politics is Yokel

It's America's waist. And just like the population as a whole, it's in an unhealthy state.
