2012 Elections Part I: All Politics is Yokel

Re: 2012 Elections Part I: All Politics is Yokel

She's being pushed because of all her lingering baggage... this is the same reason the left pushed Huckabee so hard...

You do realize that New England Republicans are about the same as Midwestern Democrats, right? Now use logic to tell you what that means about Midwestern Republicans and Southern Republicans, who are even farther right than their midwest cousins.

Bachmann will win Iowa handily (just like Huckabee did 4 years ago), and it'll have nothing to do with the liberal media pushing her.

Re: 2012 Elections Part I: All Politics is Yokel

Michele Bachmann famously called America under President Obama a “nation of slaves".

Then she got into trouble for suggesting that the founding fathers "worked tirelessly to end slavery." (She meant John Quincy Adams, the abolitionist president who was 8-years-old when the Declaration of Independence was signed).

Today the Minnesota Republican is again under attack on slavery for signing an Iowa Christian group’s “Marriage Vow” that reads in part:

“Slavery had a disastrous impact on African-American families, yet sadly a child born into slavery in 1860 was more likely to be raised by his mother and father in a two-parent household than was an African-American baby born after the election of the USA's first African-American President.”

The pledge, which she is the only presidential candidate to sign so far, also commits her to banning porn and same-sex marriage. Not a surprise.

I love when candidates sign stuff like this because it shows a clear head and a willingness to lead. I'm more convinced then ever that she is going to be President.

Also found this blurb on the pledge.

The pledge also ask candidates to promise to oppose the imposition of Sharia Islamic law.

Awesome. And she's leading Iowa with "got no chance" Romney.

I don't care if some girl wants to have an abortion either! But I get stuck with these bat **** crazy politicians that think they are sent by god to save America. Why can't we just have a decent candidates the didn't go off the deep end every time someone brings up gay marriage! ****! /rant

No need to get mad. There's a place for you.

The Tea Party may have cleaved off the remaining social crazies from the LP. That will make a smaller party to begin with, but a much more coherent message. The rise of the TP is for the LP what the GOP Southern Strategy was for the Dems: short term big loss, but long term bigger gain (and stripping away those bedfellows is always reinvigorating).

Here's the entire pledge, if you wish to read it (be forewarned, I felt about 10 IQ points dumber after reading it):

Yes, Bob Vander Plaats is this much of a nutjob. And anyone who signs this thing, like Bachmann and now Santorum, is equally loony.

Oh, in addition to the anti-gay, anti-pr0n, and semi-racist language, there's this diddy:
prompt termination of military policymakers who would expose American wives and daughters to rape or sexual harassment, torture, enslavement or sexual leveraging by the enemy in forward combat roles.

That's right, any general who wants or allows a woman serving on the frontline should be immediately fired, because women are only here to be a wife or daughter.

That's why even as I believe in efficient government and the merits of capitalism...I will never consider myself 'conservative'. That is all.

First, if you don't care about gay marriage or abortion, you're not a conservative.

Second, you need help with your anger. Then again, at least you're not shooting anyone because Sarah Palin told you to, so you get that much credit.

Re: 2012 Elections Part I: All Politics is Yokel

This is true...conservatives want you to stay out of their lives but they know best what you should do with yours!

Re: 2012 Elections Part I: All Politics is Yokel

And they won't stop until they micromanage everything from what you eat and drink to how you take a shower.

Fixed your post.

I'd like to think there are still people on the right that aren't part of the religious fundamentalist wing of the GOP.

As far as regulating what we eat, drink, and how we take showers, I think the left has already tried that by pushing taxes on junk food / soft drinks. I don't know whose idea it was to require low-flow plumbing, but it *probably* came from the left.

Are you complaining about liberals or conservatives here?

San Francisco and California seem to be well on the road.

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelarious.

Even more Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelarious.

You're a one man comedy show.

Eating, drinking, and showering are micromanaged by the left.
Who we **** and whether or not we can watch other people **** is micromanaged by the right.

It's unclear which group would fight harder to regulate golden showers, however.

I think that the temperance groups fall under the social conservative banner.

I also see a difference in taxing something to discourage it's use and cover the external costs of it's use and outright banning something.

"Sin" taxes are strongly supported by the left as revenue producers, however.

While different, both represent government intrusion on individual choice. Alcohol in moderation is actually healthier than not consuming any alcohol at all according to various studies. Yet the government does not make any distinction whatsoever in how it taxes your alcohol - you're taking that hit no matter how much you purchase. It's not like the tax rate goes up with each additional drink.

Re: 2012 Elections Part I: All Politics is Yokel

Pawlenty tried to swat down future President Bachmann this weekend on Meet the Press. Instead he got swatted right back. He should bow out now while he still has some dignity left.

No, no, no. This has all the makings of a National Derp Off. Gotta keep it going deep into the primaries for the pure comedic value.
