Re: 2012 Elections in 3-D!

How in the hell is Mitt Romney going to reduce the deficit and give everyone a tax cut? And he's saving Medicare and Social Security?

Get the **** outta here.

My favorite was when his supporters booed economic recovery. Recession good! Recovery bad!

Frothy Mix wins Ohio and this race may not be over. I thought it was over again over the weekend. Romney just doesn't have the knock out punch in him.

I expect by the time all the votes are counted Romney will win. Then a week from now we'll be told that they found some "missing" votes and Frothy actually won but Romney still gets the delegates.

Virginia is a great state. Romney is beating Paul 59-41 but the delegates are 43-3 for Romney.

Re: 2012 Elections in 3-D!

Simple math, stop spending?

Except that he's not going to cut spending. If you believe him, he's going to dramatically increase military spending. And he'll need to if he taps Bolton for Secretary of State.

If he does that, he'd basically need to cut every penny of discretionary spending just to freeze the debt, never mind cut it.

Scoob's right. Romney's knee deep in a tough election. He's telling everyone what they want to hear, with no regard for the truth (see his reversal on a national individual mandate for health care).

I still think Romney's best sell is the one that the liberal Slate made on his behalf: "Yeah, I'm an arsehole. But that's exactly what this country needs right now."

We need to cut spending and raise taxes to make any dent in the debt. No politician should be promising to cut taxes right now. Its basically a big F-you to younger people.

Re: 2012 Elections in 3-D!

I take that last post back. There *is* a way that Romney might be able to make the numbers work. Remember how Rick Perry kept mentioning the Chile model for health savings accounts?

Maybe Romney is proposing what we might call the Bolivian model:

You want us to pay up on those external debts? Hang on just a sec.
*orders the Treasury to print an extra $1trillion
There ya go. It's all there. Cash money.

Economics is fun. Hyperinflation, ftw!

Less spending means someone is not getting a paycheck and there is less cash flow into various businesses. Then everyone whines there is a slump. Then there is a recession. The economy needs to correct but to do that we need to do what will not be tolerated.

Why does everyone talk about what they are going to do when elected? Has anyone actually delivered? No. Will they? No. This isn't a monarchy. You have to compromise. To do that you actually have to be working with intelligent pragmatic people. Those folks are all dropping out of the picture.

Re: 2012 Elections in 3-D!

Some preliminary polling data from PPP re: the open Senate seat in ME

Favorability:

Contenders
King (I): 62-24 (+38)
Cutler (I) 49-27 (+22)
Pingree (D): 47-41 (+6)

Possibles
Cianchette (R): 22-27 (-5)
Summers (R): 22-32 (-10)

No-hopers and unknowns
Baldacci (D): 37-52 (-15)
Bennett (R): 9-24 (-15)
Schneider (R) 6-21 (-15)
Dodge (I): 4-23 (-19)
D'Amboise (R): 7-27 (-20)
Poliquin (R): 14-40 (-26)

Interestingly, Pingree wins against every R in a 2-way race, and she wins in a 3-way race with Cutler. There is one scenario in which Pingree loses:

King: 36
Pingree: 31
Summers: 28

There's no result for King-Pingree-Cianchette, but it's probably not radically different than with Summers.

There are also no results with 2 independents.

The difference is that the governments of Japan, Germany, and Italy all declared war on us first. Then we responded, got our butts kicked for a while, got some luck & good commanders, manufactured more tools of war than the other side and eventually won.
The US wins wars with clipboards. Soldiers are OK, but God Bless Logistics.

Re: 2012 Elections in 3-D!

Little disappointed Sanitarium couldn't pull off Ohio, but I can't get too upset at that state since they sent both Dennis Kucinich and Jean Schmitt into a much needed early retirement. But on the other hand Joe the Dumb @ ss is now a GOP candidate for Congress! Republicans must be so proud...

Either, let the games continue! Nice slate of deep South states coming up (Alabama, Mississippi) plus Kansas. Sounds like "fertile" territory for my new favorite Republican. Keep up the good work Rick.

PS - I'm more curious than anything else, but do any of you right leaning posters expect Romney to be our next President?
