You're being sillily technical. Obama is clearly a pro-gay President and I respect that at least he's now come out today and been more honest about his actual view on things (to respond to Priceless).

You and Wonkette are on the same page today. :)

Re: 2012 Elections - Fear is the mind killer. Fear is the little death....

Really...havent I seen you ripping people who voted for Nader because they (supposedly) helped get Dubya elected (I might be confusing you with someone else
No, it was me; I stand by it. The Naderites were saying "Gore is so far right he might as well be a Republican." They had their little tantrum, and we're all going to pay for it for the rest of our lives. But the thing is, the left-most liberals who voted for Nader knew Bush was going to be some sort of idiot-monster (how big a monster, obviously they couldn't know, since nobody knew that History was giving to give him dictatorial powers for a couple years) and they risked us all by making the perfect the enemy of the good.

If you're going to do that, for God's sake, don't. But if you look at both Obama and Romney and think, "meh," then sure, vote World Workers Party. Go nuts.

I don't think there's any question His Panderness is a man of his most recent
conviction.

Sorry you cant have it both ways. You cant shake your fist at the people who voted for Nader because they support him and yet blame them for the fact that Gore was a terrible candidate. He lost to Dubya because he couldnt get Tennessee on his side, he pushed Clinton away and because he had the personality of an empty bottle of white wine. Add in that Florida has the voting regulations from the stone age and leadership that makes Dubya look effective and there ya go. It wasnt Naders fault no matter how much you and MSNBC want to believe it was.

And Freshfish, yes he left. The Obama who beat Hillary and McCain is nothing like the guy who is in office and if you cant see that you are willfully blind or spend too much time watching Glenn Beck.

Re: 2012 Elections - Fear is the mind killer. Fear is the little death....

There are other choices, BTW.

I always ask people who won't vote for the R or D to select any third party candidate -- even at random if necessary -- just to drive the majors' net pct down.

I have a better chance of bedding Abby from NCIS than a Republican does of losing Alaska, so I might follow your lead and send a vote Paul's way for at least trying to act in good faith. (He actually has a decent amount of support here - lots of bootstrappy individualist types and military who want the heck out of Afghanistan. And we are somewhat principled - we threw Joe Miller out on his arse once we figured out just what he stood for.)

The real focus of this vote needs to be on Congress IMHO. Vote out the Congresscritters who are acting like children, and vote in folks who can get things done, be they Dem or GOP (or heck, anyone else.) That's the one thing that I sadly think not many people will realize. Congress has flown under the radar for too long.

This is completely un-researched, but it seems to me that over the last several cycles a lot of incumbents of both parties have retired "to spend more time lying to their families" when they saw the writing on the wall. Those go in the books as open seats, but they are really incumbents being overturned.

Incumbency is a huge advantage, particularly because the parties collude during redistricting to protect each other's incumbents at the cost of democratic process, but it at least feels like it's less overwhelming now than it was 30 years ago when franking privileges determined elections.

Not familiar with Wonkette. Sorry. And can't say from the glance at it that's it's my kind of website.

This was the site that referred to Trig Palin as a "retard," which led to a tsunami of appproval here.

really? and how do they differ? "both" of them love soaring rhetoric devoid of concrete substance, "both" of them are obsessed with "fairness", "both" of them are sure that it's always someone else's "fault".....

this is from his inauguration, after all, it's [supposedly] not a campaign speech any more....

this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal

and who is this Glenn Beck character? Is he related to Jeff Beck? I enjoyed his guitar work years ago, but I haven't heard anything about him for many years....

Wasn't he the closer for the San Franciso Giants for a number of years? :D

Obama the President isn't exactly the same, as at times he actually has to make decisions and such, something a candidate for office can only talk about. But I agree that the rhetoric and all isn't much different. It just sounds hollower now that he's had years of not accomplishing all he said he'd do.

Kepler,

But 30 - 40 years ago we had Scoop Jackson, John Stennis, Everett Dirksen, Tip O'Neill, Bob Dole and others who put country over party. Now it's "my" country over "your" country.

A house divided.......

Re: 2012 Elections - Fear is the mind killer. Fear is the little death....

I'm pretty much done with politics, but I do have a couple of questions:
Sorry you cant have it both ways. You cant shake your fist at the people who voted for Nader because they support him and yet blame them for the fact that Gore was a terrible candidate. He lost to Dubya because he couldnt get Tennessee on his side, he pushed Clinton away and because he had the personality of an empty bottle of white wine. Add in that Florida has the voting regulations from the stone age and leadership that makes Dubya look effective and there ya go. It wasnt Naders fault no matter how much you and MSNBC want to believe it was.
Is the bottle truly "empty" as you allege, or does it in fact still have a little bit of white wine in there?

The real focus of this vote needs to be on Congress IMHO. Vote out the Congresscritters who are acting like children, and vote in folks who can get things done, be they Dem or GOP (or heck, anyone else.) That's the one thing that I sadly think not many people will realize. Congress has flown under the radar for too long.
and from the etymology dept., I'm wondering why "folks" are always the good people. You never hear about the folks that want to bring down our planes or the folks that run wall street banks for a living. "The folks" are the good folks. Why is that?

Re: 2012 Elections - Fear is the mind killer. Fear is the little death....

I don't see how Obama the candidate is much different than Obama the President. In fact I'd say the biggest difference is something beyond his control, which is that Harry Reid is useless and couldn't enact more of his agenda despite having 60 votes. However he campaigned on health care reform, a stimulus, ending the Iraq war, focusing on Afghanistan, whacking Bin Laden, and improving the economy. All of these have happened. Of his misses (cap & trade, Gitmo, immigration) I'd say he mishandled the Gitmo problem (should have gone to military commissions sooner). Cap & Trade didn't seem all that well thought out IMHO. I think immigration as in the DREAM act will get done in some form (Rubio in fact has a modified proposal) probably during the lame duck session.

All in all that's a pretty good set of accomplishments. The only other thing he, and all Presidents, need to let go of is the "change the culture in Washington" BS. That's beyond one person's power regardless of their party.

While this may not be generally analogous to Congress at large, it may illustrate the problem. During my time in Houston, Barbara Jordan represented a North Houston district. She was replaced by Mickey Leland, who lost his life on a relief mission to Africa. Mickey was replaced by Craig Washington, who, in his first media appearance as a congressman-elect, thanked the people of Houston for sending him to Washington "for 20 years." Eventually, Washington was replaced by Sheila Jackson Lee, widely regarded as the most imperious member, whose famous speech touting how well North and South Vietnam are getting along these days is a You Tube classic.

Devolution anyone?

Well gee by that faulty logic all candidates are the same since they are all full of crap. Yes that means even the ones you agree with.

Obama the Candidate may have been full of crap, but at least he stood for something. (or said he did) Since the day he took office he lost all his balls and went full on Democrat not wanting to upset the masses. he has bowed to his own party leadership and basically ceded the argument to left on most major issues. He is now a complete wimp who is only now coming out for gay marriage because his VP did and forced the issue. He is a nothing.

No wine left...maybe a piece of cork but that is it ;)
