Re: 2012 Elections: Corndogs for everyone!

He has the inside track for the Likud nomination.

538, Politico, Cook and their ilk are starting to float the idea of a late entrant or a brokered convention choosing somebody completely unsullied by this circus. This is the kind of situation where The War Hero comes in handy. Where have you gone, Oliver North? ;)

tPaw? It's the old screen pass. Pull the OL as blockers and let the WR dance into the end zone.

Hey, I guess anything can happen, but how exactly is some late entrant going to jump in, set up an organization with weeks to spare, raise dough, and then compete in the Iowa/NH/SC primaries? I don't think the Republican Jesus is out there, and by bringing this up it makes me wonder why 538, Cook and the like are getting paid for this kind of deep thinking.

Re: 2012 Elections: Corndogs for everyone!

So, can it really be Newtie for the win? .

I thought Newt looked terrible in that debate. I would be shocked if he wins the nomination.
I think Bachman is angling for VP... 999 cain plan and all the far right positions.
Romney/Bachman Romney/Paul Romney/Newt .... Paul/Bachman would be dang interesting combo.

I don't think it's likely either, but it's worth remembering that Newt has had no organization for months and he's now leading in 2 of those 3 states. Name recog from his bomb-throwing career was apparently all he needed. Lou Dobbs must be kicking himself.

In comes Chris Christie or Bobby Jindal to the rescue!!!! :D

The only moment I caught live was his takedown of Romney on the "career politician" issue, as in he'd be one if he hadn't lost his Senate race back in '94. That was well done.

Its funny that there was talk about the whole Iowa caucuses becoming meaningless if a Bachmann type won as it would be rewardng a bomb thrower who spent a lot of time in the state courting voters but who wouldn't be able to build on that for a national campaign. Now it seems to be a Stop Newt firewall. If he wins Iowa (where he's leading by a decent margin - remember The Mittster's not going all in here), and finishes a strong 2nd in NH, where is the next line of defense? SC and FL, in his home region? I say he cleans those up barring some unforeseen meltdown. Were I the other candidates, I'd form an unholy alliance where everybody threw their votes to Ron Paul (who's floor is probably 15% anyway) thus making that contest irrelavent but taking some air out of Newtie's balloon.

I hadn't thought of Bachman for VP but it makes sense for a guy like Gingrich who's going to have problems with the female vote for obvious reasons.

Re: 2012 Elections: Corndogs for everyone!

It's not really logical to fire a cheap shot at Arizona or get off a boilerplate comment about guns because of the insane actions of a senile old man, now is it? We have our fair share of nutballs here. But I see stories every day about people being shot to death in other states and under really bizarre circumstances. And from you? Crickets.

Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. Go roll your eyes somewhere else.
Misconstrued. There is no tongue in cheek smiley- It seems stupid to me that the only thing they ever seem to cover about Arizona in the media we see where I am is gun stuff . I am pretty sure there are other things they should cover but we see the stuff that makes guns look bad and that is with a comment about the lax laws. I may want to see guns licensed but only so the idjits who do not respect the most simple gun saftey would have to learn gun safety before they bought. Not against guns. Sure there is more to Arizona than people shooting each other.

Yeah, old people and crystal meth. Really, that's about it. Top three careers in AZ: 1) Meth dealer, 2) Coyote (as in the people who sneak illegal across the border, not the canines. While I'm guessing there are some actual coyotes in Arizona, I don't believe its a paying job), 3) bed pan changer. If there's anything else going on out there, I'd love to hear about it.

Re: 2012 Elections: Corndogs for everyone!

Interesting. By all accounts Newt won, or at least didn't get hurt which is what the frontrunner does.
My favorite review was "Mitt Romney had the most to lose, and he certainly did."

The career politician takedown line was awesome. Bachmann's "Newt Romney" may be too little too late, but it's got a nice ring; give that staffer a raise.

Romney is a great example of a guy who needed some stronger competition earlier in the race in order to toughen himself up for the home stretch. Instead he sat back and watched the other candidates implode without having to lift a finger. Problem is unless Gingrich also dies of self inflicted wounds The Mittster is @##% out of luck. Attacking his multiple marriages is a loser since Newtie wrapped himself up in God over that question (again, where was God's guidance the second time he strayed from a marriage? I guess it it needed a couple of tries before it took).

I don't know why the other candidates don't play to the audience and blast Gingrich over getting his arse handed to him by Clinton for 4 years in a row on the budget negotiations. If you recall the coverage back then, righties were far more upset at how that turned out than anybody else. Also no mention of him resigning his Speakership. The Fannie/Freddie Mac consulting stuff should have some legs too one would think. A big problem IMHO is a lot of these people (Perry, Paul, Bachmann) have never run in a competitive race before.

Saw an attack ad on Gingrich mentioning both the speakership and the freddie mac stuff. Didn't broach his infidelity but did imply that Obama would rather run against Newt than Romney.

Re: 2012 Elections: Corndogs for everyone!

Nobody has profited more as an insider than Newt. And this is the Republican nominee.

You can't make this stuff up.

That's the spin, IMO. I think the Dems would love to run against Romney because it's the same candidate running in both parties. Then they can play "stay the course". Or, "the incompetent SOB you have is better than the other incompetent SOB."

Newt would be a better candidate. Not the best candidate, but I am not a big fan of Romney.

From the Catechism of the Catholic Church

#1263: By Baptism all sins are forgiven, original sin and all personal sins, as well as all punishment for sin. In those who have been reborn nothing remains that would impede their entry into the Kingdom of God, neither Adam's sin, nor personal sin, nor the consequences of sin, the gravest of which is separation from God.

In other words, when Newt became Catholic, all of his previous sins were wiped clean. They're gone, do not exist. And he will not stand in judgement before Christ for them!! Such is the magnificence of God's mercy. If He could forgive Peter for denying Him thrice, why not an adulterer and vain man?

Re: 2012 Elections: Corndogs for everyone!

I hadnt been paying a lot of attention. Wasn't aware Newt became Catholic. That right there could hurt him though. Lots of evangelicals and other christian groups really do not like the Catholics and many believe that Catholics are not actually Christian.
