2012 East Regional: Union, Miami, Lowell, Michigan State

Re: 2012 East Regional: Union, Miami, Lowell, Michigan State

***? When did Bridgeport become Salt Lake City?

You have to lock down the population at some point.

Still, would be nice to find some place safe for post-game.

(For the record, I grew up in Fitchburg, went to school in Lowell, lived in Willimantic, I pass through SE Washington DC going to work, and I work in Prince George's County... I'm not unfamiliar with rough or sketchy... I like to avoid it.)

Good morning hockey fans! The Bridgeport Downtown Special Services District is looking forward to welcoming you to Bridgeport. Our goal (no pun intended) is to help you enjoy your stay in our city. Here's a link to a map of dining and entertainment options and a map of services that will give you an idea of where things are in relation to the Webster Bank Arena, the Bridgeport Holiday Inn, etc. Additionally, you can see what's happening while you're here in Bridgeport at www.InfoBridgeport.com. We will be monitoring this board right through the tournament, so feel free to post any questions about what to do , where to stay, where to eat, etc.

I have a question: Is it safe to walk from the arena to the metro-north train station before an after the games? Seems like a pretty quick walk, but I just wanted to make sure. The train seems like the best way for me to get there from New York City.

pfffffft! That's nothing, I lived/went to school in Lowell, lived across the street from the free clinic in Springfield and currently work on the wrong side of the suits/ghetto line in Hartford

It is a ver short/quick two block walk. It will be heavily patrolled and with the amount of people wandering around after the game, I think you will be quite safe. I really can't qualify anything about the nightlife after the games as I was too depressed to stick around after Yale's losses. Downtown Milford on the weekends is a great place to party and eat, it can get quite crowded with twenty somethings. I would recommend Archie Moores for pub food and fantastic buffalo wings. The Seven Seas is a smaller less obvious choice, but has great food, especially fish and chips. StoneBridge and Southport Brewing are both meat markets on the weekends but have decent food and plenty of drunk people if that is what you desire. There is a large amount of free parking behind the public library near the baseball fields. There are some places down the Black rock area of Bridgeport/Fairfield as well. If you have wives with you and need somewhere to lunch or shop, I would recommend downtown Westport, Fairfield or Milford. all great walking towns with good shopping and eats. Oscars Deli in Westport is a good authentic New York Style deli if so inclined. Just follow US Rt One or 95 south to get to Fairfield and Westport.

Thanks for this info. Glad I'm staying in Milford then.

Re: 2012 East Regional: Union, Miami, Lowell, Michigan State

The best place to stay for this tournament is the Bridgeport Holiday Inn. See map here. It's a short, safe and enjoyable three block walk to the Arena. No need to move your car and pay for parking at the Arena. Regarding the walk from the MetroNorth train station, that's also an easy walk. The Arena is situated adjacent to the train station. Lots of hockey fans take the train to the game when they attend Bridgeport Sound Tigers games at the Arena. Regarding safety, our downtown is safe. I walk around this area all the time, and never feel threatened. The area is well patrolled, especially on the days/nights we have events at the Arena. Check out our restaurants for before and after game celebrations: http://infobridgeport.com/dining/. Please feel free to post any other questions here and I'll try to respond as quickly as possible. Looking forward to seeing you all here in Bridgeport!

Thanks for your help. How much is parking at the stadium, if you know?

Everyone who purchased the all-access pass for this weekend--

did they send you separate tix for Friday's 6:30 game? I rec'd tix for Friday at 3, and I'm assuming they also let you in at 6:30 (will probably not be able to get out of work in time to see Union-MSU), but I just want to make sure.

The ticket for Friday is for both games.

Re: 2012 East Regional: Union, Miami, Lowell, Michigan State

For those who have their tickets in hand - what section(s) is the Lowell block of tickets? When I purchased them this morning the phone rep did not release the location. She just told me to pick them up before 5pm tomorrow or they will be held at will call...just curious.

I will sit in the rafters if i have to.... I am just glad to be going!

Re: 2012 East Regional: Union, Miami, Lowell, Michigan State

Ticket for Friday is for both games and there is no exiting or re-entry between games which I find to be quite annoying. Every other hockey facility that I have attended has no problem with hand stamp or stub re-entry. The only reason for no re-entry is to monopolize concessions or to keep someone from only seeing their team and handing off or re-selling the ticket for the second session. The other way around this situation is to have a beer and wine corral outside the arena between games similar to the smoking corral they have now.

I believe parking in the guarded lot outside the arena was $10 last year, it is a decent place to tailgate before the game, which may be a nice option as it is supposed to be 70 degrees and partly cloudy on Friday and in the 50's and partly cloudy on Saturday.

Here is a parking map.

Good Luck.

My subway station stop for work is in the Top 5 crime spots in the system and we're across the street from a pawn shop. We get occassionally get grazed by bullets and there's been at least one murder within eyesight of my window in the past couple of years.

edit: and they say federal workers have it all nice and cushy.

Re: 2012 East Regional: Union, Miami, Lowell, Michigan State

For the Lowell fans that missed this on the Lowell thread ... here's the fan info for UML, including student bus info and prices. Apparently we will indeed be at the Barnum Publick House, but starting at 4? I'm assuming either Union or MSU will be having a party there prior to their game, giving them a chance to clean up a bit, rest and then get ready for the next rush.

Re: 2012 East Regional: Union, Miami, Lowell, Michigan State

Union is there 12-2:30, we're easy going people come drink!

The Metro north stop is plenty safe, did it last year when I visited everyone in NYC. You won't have any problems. Bring the flag
