2012 East Regional: Union, Miami, Lowell, Michigan State

Re: 2012 East Regional: Union, Miami, Lowell, Michigan State

Many people are pointing to Lowell's win as some epic shock, but it is true that Miami was a moribund team for a large stretch of the season...even being 'unranked' for a spell.

As a fan of one the few (possibly the only?) team who played both those teams this season, it wasn't a surprise to me at all. I told local Miami folks this week that I thought Miami's D could have issues with the speed (underated IMO) of UML's forwards.

I find it simply amazing that there is ALWAYS several common threads at tournament time:

Every time somebody gets eliminated, their fans blame the officials.
Before the tournament begins, everybody, no matter which conference they follow, seems convinced THEIR conference's officials are the WORST.
After the game(s) fans of losing teams all seem to believe that the ONLY officials worse than the idiots in their OWN conference, are the morons from the OTHER conference that just robbed their team.

Check out the threads from the other regionals, and see if I'm right.

Definitely don't think Miami fans are complaining about officiating. I thought the crew did a great job with the game last night.

In the third period, Miami showed everyone how they are capable of playing, but capability means nothing if you don't show up for two periods. Congrats to the River Hawks. Your guys played hard, used your speed advantage effectively, and earned that win. I'm just glad Miami managed to make an exciting game out of it in the end.

FWIW, I spoke with the father of a Union player after the game and he said his son told him the ice was much better than last year, harder and faster.

Re: 2012 East Regional: Union, Miami, Lowell, Michigan State

Couple quick items:

* The better team won tonight. Not sure what was up with all the blind passes to Union players; maybe we were in a generous mood? ;)
* It's a shame that a blown offside call sort of leaves some doubt about the game. See point #1 if you are inclined to take issue with this statement.
* I hope Union gets a refund on whatever you paid for the Sacred Heart band to help you out.
* We had a **** fine season, very proud of our guys, and am now wondering what's taking October so frelling long to get here.

Congratulations to Union. And congratulations to Lowell on a great season. Little better than last year, eh? :)

Lowell and Union fans answered the question about whether their fan bases will travel to Eastern regionals

Bridgeport
5090 / 8412 61%
5328 / 8412 63%
10418 / 16824 62%

Over 60% capacity both days is easily the best in any of the regional sites this year. Attendance at Green Bay was abysmal (38%) and Worcester and St. Paul were only half full. We'll see how they do tomorrow...if it was priced better that UND-Minn game would be packed.

The NCAA has to be relieved to know that Union and Lowell can be counted upon to help attendance in the East.

I was pleasantly surprised with last night's attendance... I was thinking low 4's myself
