2012 East Regional: Union, Miami, Lowell, Michigan State

Re: 2012 East Regional: Union, Miami, Lowell, Michigan State

The announcers are awful. Al they talk about is how much of an underdog Lowell is because of less guys drafted. Also tell Melrose that Lowell is in Hockey East not ECAC.

They contradict themselves a lot to make a point. During the MSU-Union game all he talked about was how under-talented the Spartans were. Then sometime in the third he made the statement that Union's defense was great because they were keeping down one of the top 16 teams in the nation. Ok Barry, either State sucks or they don't, make up your mind.

Looks like Miami wasn't ready for this from UMass-Lowell early.

As a Merrimack and hockey east fan can we get miami in our conference

Re: 2012 East Regional: Union, Miami, Lowell, Michigan State

Does Yale's equipment manager know that pucks should be frozen before they are played with?

That ice is a joke. I've never been there but I've heard that both arenas for the eastern regionals are awful. Its a shame that these kids have to win or go home on such bad ice.

I don't buy into the bad ice arguments. The ice is the same for both teams. Besides, a lot of these players grew up playing pond hockey. Can't be any worse than that.

Of course both teams have to play on it. Its disappointing as a hockey fan that these teams can't do what they are capable of because of the bad ice. I could care less who wins any of the games in this regional. I just want to watch good hockey.

Re: 2012 East Regional: Union, Miami, Lowell, Michigan State

Actually I want Lowell to win. Miami ended our season a few years back. I'm just saying the ice conditions are embarrassing and we all could be watching better hockey.

Re: 2012 East Regional: Union, Miami, Lowell, Michigan State

Far be it from me to speak for Lowell fans but I think they'd say they're watching some pretty excellent hockey. :)

You know it was like 70 degrees there today, right?

Re: 2012 East Regional: Union, Miami, Lowell, Michigan State

Does anyone know if there will be tickets left to buy at the box office tomorrow? Also, do any Union alum know if we have to register for the dinner tomorrow? I couldn't find the event on the alumni site

Re: 2012 East Regional: Union, Miami, Lowell, Michigan State

Yes I do know that. It really isn't an excuse to me. It was 70 degrees all week in St. Paul (actually hit 80 one day) and the ice at the Xcel will be in top form. If the venue can't handle the weather then switch the location. The ice was bad there last year too.

Re: 2012 East Regional: Union, Miami, Lowell, Michigan State

Well, the X is an NHL facility. You can schedule a regional there if there's reason to think you'll have Minnesota in the field, but it's kind of an exception. There's Boston, but they'll never bump hoops for a hockey regional.

That said, some AHL facilities may have better ice than others. Worcester should be a bit better, if memory serves. Which is an increasingly dangerous assumption these days :p :(

Re: 2012 East Regional: Union, Miami, Lowell, Michigan State

Speaking of which, we have a hockey game, folks.

I had a feeling Miami wasn't going to go *that* quietly. Next 10 minutes are huge.

Re: 2012 East Regional: Union, Miami, Lowell, Michigan State

Are the college venues not big enough to hold a regional out east? There has to be a better ice sheet in the area. Its a tough to watch all the bouncing pucks and guys losing edges constantly. Its almost is a safety concern. There has been multiple guys blow tires and spill into the boards. Even on that last Miami goal, puck flipped up on the UML defenseman which probably caused it to be blocked, then never stopped rolling on the break away.
