2012-2013 North Dakota Hockey: Season Thread

Re: 2012-2013 North Dakota Hockey: Season Thread

I didn't notice much of a difference in color. Manitoba's browns and North Dakota's greens were just fine on my TV. The two things that I noticed that were substantially different were the powerplay clock (a plus), and the overall camerawork (a negative). Typically, the camera people get better after the first couple of games, so I'm not too worried there.

As for the announcers, they are college hockey announcers...none of them are all that good in comparison to the other sports. The best announcers for college hockey are typically on radio. The best college hockey announcers on TV are generally out East. The worst are the B1G announcers, as they know little to nothing about the sport and almost feel like they are being forced at gunpoint to do the broadcasts.

I didn't flip over to FSN North...how was the Gopher's broadcast?

the gophers werent on tv tonight... we will see their new tv broadcast team next weekend. you are right though that most college hockey guys are pretty bad

Absolutely horrendous. And their camerawork is worse. During the UND/Minnesota game last year, both of Minnesota's goals at the end of the game were nearly impossible to see thanks to some rube standing up in front of the B1G camera to celebrate. :rolleyes:

Dan Hammer was brutal.
Kober was wearing someone else's suit..the sleeves came down past his knuckles and was really baggy.
The picture was dark.
Camera angles were poor for the most part.

* The Sioux look fast!
* Rocco is going to give some teams fits this year..if not everyone.
* Goaltending...hmmm, I'll get back to that once I see more of each guy.
* LOVE the jersey's!

Hammer is not a hockey announcer, plain and simple. As for Kober, I don't really care what they wear, so long as they do a good job (which they didn't).

As for the picture, I didn't have any issues with it being dark. Did you watch it on FCS or DirecTV? I definitely agree about the camera angles, and unnecessary zoom-ins. We almost missed the Kristo goal because the camera person has a hard-on for the zoom feature.

As for the team, they definitely are fast. This may be the fastest team that Hakstol has had.

Rocco was dominating when he was on the ice. What is fun to watch is that he can generate a chance all on his own. Having a guy on the third line that can do that is special, and I wouldn't be surprised if we continue to see Rocco centering that line.

As for the goaltending, I thought they were fine. Saunders GA was a screened shot after a miscue by Knight in our end. Gothberg had a bad bounce go off his skate and in, and then a communication error led to the other goal. It wasn't pretty by any means, but I thought they both did decent. I agree though, I'd like to see more of what they can do.

The jerseys are probably the best that we can hope for for the next few years. They are okay, but they could be improved (especially the striping). IMO, the home jerseys (whites) are significantly better than the greens, which just look odd. IDK, perhaps I just need to adjust to the new jerseys.

BTW, Manitoba tied Bemidji State tonight 3-3.

Any word on how Parks is doing?

I have not heard anything yet. There was some rumor that he was day-to-day with a lower body injury, but I just can't believe that after seeing how hard he struggled to get off the ice and into the dressing room Saturday Night. My guess is that we'll see an update by Wednesday (if not earlier). I would doubt that he would play against the Under-18 squad, but who knows...crazier things have happened.

Btw, which Gopher fan is called Goofy? I get a lot of neg reps from a gopher fan who just signs it "gfy"

Umm......it's probably Rimbaud, that's one of his acronyms.

Via chatslang.com, 'Go ******* Yourself' or 'Good for You'. I'll let you interpret how you want lol

I thought Saunders looked very anxious and jittery. Like he was trying to do too much, which he was probably used to doing at UAH. I was very unimpressed with Corban Knight's two way play. He obviously had some chemistry with Kristo, their give and go was very crisp, and I loved the patience, but overall it looked like he was nervous and tried to force plays he shouldn't have. My biggest concern coming from Saturday was that our D seemingly couldn't handle the puck very well, especially on the power play. Forbort and Mattson looked good enough, but there were some flat out whiffs on the puck and struggled with decision making on the power play, causing two breakaways.

I'm not going to fret over it just yet, but had that been a WCHA matchup, it very easily could have been the other way.

:D:D:D:D...............Happy pretending he has a dad, priceless.

Hah! Happy has a dad, not only that, Happy knows who he is, not only that, his mom and dad were NOT related before they got married! I know all that is very rare and unusual to the Whioux fans like cc, burd and Goon, but it is actually pretty common here in Gopher country! :p

OK, maybe we Sioux fans tend to marry in the family a little too much, but nobody in their right mind would cross the Red for DNA, and Montana has more sheep than people, and you know how that works.

Nodaks do bring in Canadian blood to mix into the hockey gene pool. After multiple generations of Minnesota-only, Gopher players are getting shorter, uglier, and more simple-minded with each passing year. I'd hate to see how many toes Bjugstad has inside those skates of his.

Insert Danny Kristo joke here.
