2012-13 NHL Thread. Fehr Thee Well??

As am I.

I'll probably be back at some point since I'm out of market anyway and boycotting would be futile if not detrimental to the NHL's cause. However, I do agree the fans need to send some sort of message that they're not taking this treatment lying down.

You know who I want to win the Cup this year? Philly. Imagine Bettman having to hand over the Cup on THAT ice.
If there is ever a year for a Canadian team besides Vancouver to win it, this is it.

I'm a boycotter... at least for this season. After that, who knows.... will all depend on my interest level. This year won't be hard to boycott as in truth, my interest in watching the NHL is about zero right now.

Re: 2012-13 NHL Thread. Fehr Thee Well??

I wonder how long before the boycotters forget about their boycott and start following their teams again.

I won't watch this season on principle. After that will depend on my interest level. I don't wan't the NHL to fail, but I would like to see attendance and revenue way down this season.

Re: 2012-13 NHL Thread. Fehr Thee Well??

One year of a boycott isn't going to end the NHL, but it will send a message to both the owners and the players that any type of labor stoppage when this CBA expires would be disastrously foolish. Even if per game attendance and merchandise revenue falls by only 10%, that should send them enough of a message that the fans are not going to take this again.

With at least an 8-year deal, any messages sent this year by fans will likely be long forgotten by the time we get to do this little chicken dance again.

I'm not sure about that. MLB has not had a work stoppage since the fans reaction to the strike/lockout in 95.... And I don't think they will ever forget how long it took to earn the fans back.

lol...you think the NHL fanbase is on par with the MLB fanbase...that's cute.

No, because if the NHL suffers from a 10 to 15% drop in attendance or revenue this season (even if it comes back next season) will be brought up the next time the CBA is negotiated. The fact that the lost 2004-05 season didn't hurt revenue or attendance one bit had to influence the owners and players willingness to not compromise to save the season until the very last moment.

Well, I'm not boycotting, I will still watch the team and follow this season. I'm just not going to spend any money on tickets or merchandise.

It would seem that we as a fanbase have given the NHL absolutely zero incentive to avoid this in the future.

Difference between MLB fans and NHL fans... evidently we're a lot stupider.

Came out this morning that the teams will play almost all their games within the conference. We are not seeing a single eastern division team this year in Detroit. no Toronto, no Penguins, no Boston, But plenty of home and home with Columbus. (:

They've been talking about that for a while now. It's back like the olden days of baseball, when the only chance you had to see the other league was if your team went all the way (I talk, of course, with fake nostalgia. I don't remember a time before interleague play).

It wasn't that long ago...I remember the days before no interleague play until the World Series.

I'd be happy about that. Wish my team could play the Blue Jackets a handful of times...
