2012-13 NHL Thread. Fehr Thee Well??

Re: 2012-13 NHL Thread. Fehr Thee Well??

One would think that the NHL Network (US) would show live hockey instead of replays. Maybe even a studio show. Show the AHL, college, and Major Junior at least 2x during the week and on the weekends. At least we'd get a hockey fix.

Right now, I would guess nobody is watching.

You have to pay dozens of people to put together a live hockey broadcast. You have to pay one person to push a button to show a replay of an old game. NCAA games on Versus, which everyone has as part of their cable package, are lucky to draw 100,000+ viewers. There's not nearly enough interest to justify the difference in cost.

Couldn't they simulcast? Wouldn't think it would cost more than what they're showing but I could be talking out of my arse...

They've pulled the live UND feed in the past and aired it. Didn't cost them a penny (except for power and maybe pointing a satellite in a certain direction.)

November games now cancelled.

And more bad news coming next week.

If that's true, the NHL has lost me for good.

Re: 2012-13 NHL Thread. Fehr Thee Well??

I am devastated that we will not be seeing the All Star Game :p

I think most of is live by "as much hockey as possible", but for whatever reason, this really isn't bothering me. I can't put my finger on it. Maybe because I still have college hockey. If there was ever no college hockey, then I'd be devastated.

Figures Bettman would screw the Leafs in the backside over the Winter Classic. We all know how much the Lord thy Gary loves Canada. :D

Re: 2012-13 NHL Thread. Fehr Thee Well??

Fox Sports Detroit has been doing a decent job at filling their hockey schedule with more hockey. A couple weeks ago they had MSU-Minnesota, they've been playing some classic games, and tonight they have the Griffins, along with Red Wings announcers Ken and Mickey announcing. I would have much preferred them to have gone up to Sault Ste. Marie and do MSU-LSSU or even Ann Arbor and do UM-Miami but I'll take what i can get I guess.

They had the Friday night MN @ MTU game last weekend too, although they just picked up the FSN feed from the Gophers.

Same here. I can still follow my Alma Mater via Twitter and online radio (and occasional B2); and I have AHL Chicago Wolves on TV and season tickets, and four other AHL teams within three hours drive.

While I miss the Wings and NHL, I really don't miss the NHL.

With the sports package, I'm getting my hockey fix. Not that I watched a WHOLE lot of NHL until the playoffs, but I'm only sorta missing it. I miss having the OPTION of watching NHL if I wanted to catch a game.

Yes, the NHL Network picking up HNIC was always something to look forward to.

Re: 2012-13 NHL Thread. Fehr Thee Well??

espn.com today ---

Daly said Monday that the two sides had no plans to meet but that the league is ready and willing to meet as soon as necessary.

"No new news. We withdrew our most recent proposal on Friday, and now we are spending time thinking about our next proposal and how best to get closer to a resolution," Daly said by email. "We hope the union is doing the same thing. Given the fact that the union refused even to discuss our last proposal, it would appear that we still have a large gulf to bridge."

The league and union have not resumed negotiations since swapping proposals in Toronto almost two weeks ago, and it seems clear that the impasse is not close to ending.

Fehr denied that the union is not willing to play ball.

"Since the last bargaining meeting on Oct. 18, we have consistently made it clear to the League that we are ready to meet and are willing to discuss all ideas, certainly including their last proposal," he told ESPN.com. "The league has unfortunately continued to decline to meet. Their position makes it difficult to move the process forward, as it is obviously hard to make progress without talking."

so, has the pa made a proposal? or is fehr using his baseball experience to sit and wait for the owners to break down and come to the players to give them everything they want and then some?

Re: 2012-13 NHL Thread. Fehr Thee Well??

Owners want to break union. Let's stop pretending it's anything different.

I think the PA has given up making proposals-they presented several reasonable ones recently, and the owners clearly know what the players want from a deal. They realize that the owners aren't going to accept an NHLPA proposal outright, so they're making it known they're willing to negotiate from any and all starting points to get a deal done.

Owners want to break union. Let's stop pretending it's anything different.

If the owners wanted a fair proposal that benefits both sides, they would have said "Sure, let's go ahead and play the season while we negotiate so we have time to come to a well thought out CBA that benefits the game." Sounds like the Winter Classic is going to be cancelled this week before the league loses its deposit...I'm thinking the rest of the season's pretty much gone too.
