2011 Posters' Game - St Paul

Re: 2011 Posters' Game - St Paul

pgb-ohio: RE: Post #431 in this thread. You can move me to the Definite list. I e-mailed Bostonewe last week.

Goldy331... is Augsburg confirmed, or are you still looking? Have you tried South St. Paul (Wakota), or Minnehaha (Mpls)? It's kind of out of the way, but the Superrink in Blaine would be a nice place to play (I don't know what their rates are though). Augsburg is kind of a dump, and parking can be difficult.

Augsburg is confirmed, sorry. I did try Superrink and was surprised at how full they are already that weekend - virtually no open ice. I should have maybe checked Wakota, I believe Minnehaha has taken their ice out already. I was close with Vadnais Heights, but it would have been an earlier time in the morning and I lost it while trying to work things out with St. Thomas. Was surprised that Highland is closed on Saturday (why T F would you keep ice in a rink and close it on Saturday? There are AAA programs, clinics Whowcase, MASH, etc. going on all over at this time of year).

Hmm, did you try Parade?

Re: 2011 Posters' Game - St Paul

Nope, nor Dakotah, nor Waconia or St. Cloud. If you wanted to schedule the ice, you could have volunteered to do so.
Oh no, no, just asking...not judging, please don't take my question the wrong way...sorry goldy, I know planning and calling around is a pain in the ***. Great work, i was just asking.

Re: 2011 Posters' Game - St Paul

Augsburg is cool with me. Booking icetime is a time-consuming and thankless job. We appreciate your efforts Goldy!

Organizing anything is a PITA. Organizing anything involving people coming from multiple states is pure hell for stress levels. Organizing anything involving people you may or may not know, coming from multiple states and also involves fronting money deserves sainthood. :)

I've done the first two, I'll be dammed if I ever do the third. I couldn't handle the stress. And for those that know me, that sounds rather odd (about the stress levels).

Everything you just said is why I doubt I'll do the pond hockey tournament next year. It's too much of a PITA, and I'm the one who ends up fronting the money. The people who've not yet paid don't seem to understand that the money I paid isn't due the day of the event, I paid a few months back and am essentially floating them a short-term loan. F that noise. I'm not doing it anymore, not with the astronomical participation fees they're charging for that event now.

Remember that when you are buying rounds of beer. I know a few of the previous organizers will be in St. Paul.

Personally, I like micro-breweries. You can get me one of those. :)

Re: 2011 Posters' Game - St Paul

UPDATE!!!!! PLEASE READ!!!

FOR ANY WHO MISSED IT - THE GAME IS NOW AT AUGSBURG ICE ARENA, RINK B. ICE TIME STARTS AT 11:45 AM, SATURDAY, APRIL 9 AND RUNS TILL 2 PM WITH A 15 MINUTE BREAK FOR RESURFACING FROM 12:45-1.

Augsburg is located on the eastern edge of Minneapolis about 7.5 miles from the Xcel Energy Center, Address is 2323 Riverside Avenue, Minneapolis, 55454. Coming from downtown St. Paul, there is an exit off westbound I94 onto Riverside, just after you cross the river (funny how that works). There is also an exit to Riverside on eastbound I94 from downtown Minneapolis.

Parking will be a challenge as Augsburg has Saturday classes that day, but there are pay lots and may be some on-street parking available so get there early if possible.

Ice fee for skaters will be in the range of $15-17 and will be set this weekend as the player list gets firmed up.

Thanks to all participants and volunteers!

Just got a note from RWD's brother, UMDDogz that he will not be able to play due to illness.

Looks like just over a mile from the finish line to Auggie.

FWIW, that would be a walk of over a mile through the hood. Auggie is not in the greatest neighborhood.

Re: 2011 Posters' Game - St Paul

Agreed. I get emails like every week about how someone was shot/stabbed/whatever near campus.

It's gonna be 11:00am on a Saturday or so when people arrive. Walk in groups. It's not like it's South Cen, East St Lou, or Southside Chi-town.

Re: 2011 Posters' Game - St Paul

I can probably give a ride or two if the location is right - I'll be coming from the NW burbs. I think that would work for you Brent if you need it.

My ride has been covered. And am staying at the Crowne Plaza with some friends anyway during the F4, so wrong direction this time. ;)
