2011 Posters' Game - St Paul

Re: 2011 Posters' Game - St Paul

I'm back to the F4 after missing the last 2.

Definite.
RW. or D if need be...

'bout time! Welcome back.

Will chicks be 2-handing players in the back this year?? just kidding.....come on - that was funny !
Just wondering as maybe I'll bring a current lid and cage, instead of my retro helmet.....
Let me know. I'm flexible ... somewhat.
The player in question hasn't been back and isn't expected. Our course, she may have just been waiting for you to return.

We'll never really know why "Kathy Bates" came to Magness with wrong attitude. But yeah, your quip was funny. The two hander was an instant classic in the annals of the Posters' Game.

BTW, I'm sure you'll recall and acknowledge that your spirited comments from the bench are part of the story. The best sound bite was: "I'm guessing that this is your first Posters' Game; and it needs to be the last.";)

In partial defense of the assailant, she made it fairly clear up front that she wasn't there for fun and games. But those involved in the horseplay elected not to back off, and the rest is history.

A quote that I wish we got on tape:

GLM: tDarkness, why were you penalized?
tDarkness: Because I'm black!

:D

What does that even mean? Why would she elect to play the game if she's there to be a grouch? I don't understand the people taking a serious attitude during a pick up game, or beer league games, for that matter.

I will admit, I am a serious guy when it comes to any competition. However, I won't take cheap/chippy/etc shots. I cannot help it. Beer-league-whatever, tournament for money, etc, I play to win (and have fun, too). But if I have to check you, or take advantage of some weakness you have in your game, so be it. I admit it's a fault at times, but that's the way I'm wired. Off the field/after the game, I give credit to an opponent, will have a beer with them, whatever.

I'm just competitive.

Re: 2011 Posters' Game - St Paul

All good. Note that I categorized XYZ as definite and Hockey Bum as probable based on their comments on this thread.

Barring unforseen catastrophe I am indeed a definite.

At this late date, the point to emphasize is that this was utterly out of character for the Posters' Game. A once in forever occurrence. That's why those who were there can't forget it, and why it must be baffling to anyone who wasn't.

So as not to leave you hanging, a few more words of explanation: I doubt she came to be a grouch, but she was there to compete and amass stats. If a play wasn't developing fast enough for her taste, she had no qualms about stealing the puck off a teammate's stick and taking off. At one point, with a goalie plainly beaten, such a steal took away a sure goal from a teammate, apparently because she wanted the goal for herself. Now everyone likes making plays. But the former was inappropriate for the Posters' Game, and the latter was ridiculous at any level.

The reason for my partial defense? It didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out she wasn't in the mood for horseplay, and the "horses" should have been smarter about that.

Agreed, and I'm sure 100% of this year's registrants will agree.

See, you should play. Lack of skills and all. It could be fun. :)

OTOH, I quit hockey due to the seriousness of the league I was playing in. The skill level was high enough, and the general frustration of players wasn't there. But you could see people play cheap to win. And having won two of the coveted beer mugs, and lost two in a championship- I didn't get it. We were not getting paid to play, nobody was coming to see us. If you won, you were not going to get a raise, and probably you were not going to get more nookie. Since I didn't understand why the play was going that way, instead of adapt, I quit- it didn't meet my standards.

Thankfully, the times I have played the posters game, it was a blast. You see guys who have been skating all of their lives do eveything they could to help players who started playing hockey due to interest in their college teams. And you would still see small groups of really good players take each other on- in a very fun way.

This is the only time I play, anymore. And I look forward to it every year, even if I can't play for reason X.

Re: 2011 Posters' Game - St Paul

I'm in. Almost definite. Can play anywhere, but I'll take D if it's open.

Now I just need to get out to Roseville a few times before the season's over to get my wind back...

I also forgot to mention in the email that I live in the Cities (walking distance from the X), have a car, and can pitch in as gondolier for some out-of-towners.

Actually it's not baffling at all. I know who this person is and for lack of more original phrasing...she's a piece of crap.

Re: 2011 Posters' Game - St Paul

OK, baffling to anyone without first hand knowledge.;) As you let me know offline, you have good reason for your opinion. Different setting, but the song remained the same.

To Potential Players: Please do not be put off by this story. It is a truly isolated exception that proves the rule. Granted, I shouldn't say a good time is had by all when clearly one person did not. But be assured that a good time is had by 99%.

So... I should leave my foil at home?

I know the perfect ref for us. He's worked two of my son's peewee games this season in District 6. Jack Carlson. The "Hanson" brother who didn't get to play himself in Slap Shot because he got called up to the North Stars when they were filming. He looks like he's been in a few hundred fights. His brothers played two of the Hansons who were modeled on the Carlson brothers. I think Jack could handle any trouble makers. ;)

Re: 2011 Posters' Game - St Paul

Not positive here, but didn't Carlson get called up to Edmonton of the WHA, before the filming started? Not positive....

I should wear a suit and go Herb Brooks on the bit:

The two hander was an instant classic in the annals of the Posters' Game.

Is the two-hander the reason why shrader doesn't post on this board any longer?

;)

That play was craziness. I really didn't see that coming at all...

Re: 2011 Posters' Game - St Paul

I know there were a lot of mad people. I didn't see it, I just heard about it, since I was too busy snapping photos and adding color commentary to GLM's PBP. And shrader doesn't post anymore for a few reasons.
