2011 Posters' Game - St Paul

Re: 2011 Posters' Game - St Paul

I still need to be listed as possible, but I believe I about have my wife convinced enough to move up to the probable list.:D I can play either Center or Defense as needed...I have a tough time staying on my side of the ice when I'm a wing, so why bother. If I end up being a Center, I will most likely end up being the "third" defense anyway, as my stamina sucks...always has...by the end of the game, I might actually try to get the goalie to enter the play, and I'll watch their net for them.

Re: 2011 Posters' Game - St Paul

Not positive here, but didn't Carlson get called up to Edmonton of the WHA, before the filming started? Not positive....

Very likely that I misremembered the sequence. I knew he spent some time with the Stars and probably mixed which stint was where.

Aw crap. I just realized I have work commitment on Thursday afternoon in Mankato. I'll likely have to miss the two semi-final games.

Re: 2011 Posters' Game - St Paul

I'd love to play, but recent;y found out that my parents (Mother) tossed out my gear a few years ago. Swell.

Oh well, I suppose I will probably be a bit hungover then, anyways.

On the bright side, Mom now owes you some money for the wrongfully discarded gear. Just make sure you spend the $$ on gear, and not on "other concerns.":D

Since it may take a while to collect, I've deleted you from the possibles list.

Also, I've kept Larch on the possibles list, as per his post.

If you're really hankering to get out there I've got a handful of extra pairs of skates in the size 9-10 range. Also extra gloves, breezers, a righty stick and maybe a bucket. You're on your own for anything beyond that, but it would get you going if you don't like your shins or elbows that much.

We may want to pool that sort of thing for folks who are struggling with the cost of getting their gear here, but want to skate. I tried another resource for loaner gear, but did not get any help there. If any of the skaters who are local have extra gear, it might be good to post about it for anyone who's flying in. I have a lefty stick (wood) for someone in the 5'-10" range. I have my son's youth large helmet that may fit a small adult if adujsted all the way out - I'l check the size this weekend.

Re: 2011 Posters' Game - St Paul

The 9-10 size skates would not work. I have skates though. I have sticks, so that isn't an issue. If I really feel the need I can use my father's shin and elbow pads. (He is/was an official) I could also use one of his helmets, if those are necessary. I do not have shoulder pads, breezers, or gloves, however.

Not sure if shoulders are needed. This is my first rodeo with the posters' game. I assume there isn't any checking so maybe they are superfluous.

As bad a skater as I am, I have skated in several old guy pick-up games with no breezers and was fine - didn't break a hip ;). I think you'd be OK with that stuff.

Re: 2011 Posters' Game - St Paul

What's the skill level needed to play in this game? Also, would full padding be needed? I play lots of pickup hockey during the winter, but I don't have breezers or shoulder pads.

Seems like all skill levels are playing, and there's a lot of spread of equipment... I'll wear all I have, but that's because I'm more used to it that way. But as long as you feel safe falling down, and glancing accidents with other players, you should be ok.

Re: 2011 Posters' Game - St Paul

In that case I might just be able to do it. Gotta wait a couple weeks to see if we get booked that weekend or not. Sounds like fun though.

A helmet is a must. Shin pads, elbow pads and gloves are very strongly recommended, if only because other players will assume that you have them and play accordingly. No need to get a broken finger on a routine stick lift. Fortunately you already have the first two items, and gloves should be among the easier things to borrow.

It is no-check, so I think it's fair to say that shoulder pads are truly optional. Some players will have them; others won't. Breezers are in the gray area. Ideally, you'd have them. A stray puck or stick is always a possibility. But sweat pants, shin pads and a cup will do. With any luck at all, that'll be enough protection.

Re: 2011 Posters' Game - St Paul

Sounds a lot like the average pick up game I play then. Hopefully I'll have that day/time open, sounds fun.
