2011 Posters' Game - St Paul

Re: 2011 Posters' Game - St Paul

Not sure if shoulders are needed. This is my first rodeo with the posters' game. I assume there isn't any checking so maybe they are superfluous.

I'll be there in the following, because it's all I ever wear: Helmet, cup, shin pads, elbow pads, roller hockey pants (not padded), and gloves.

As for the breezers and shoulder pads, there are essentially three reasons to wear them. First, you fall down a lot - you're your own worst enemy. Second, people with hard shots, but people who can shoot hard enough to do damage should be smart enough and skilled enough to keep their shots down. Third, pyscho chick from Denver is on the ice again, if the stories earlier are any indication.

Played boot hockey for a number of years, in the same style as the poster's games (friendly, but I admit, we were competitive). The general rule on checking was "check if you want to be checked." And I'll say, there were some good checks handed out. We did assess penalties, and no one was ever hurt (pride excluded). And no one went out of their way to hand out a check. The checks just came with the flow of the game.

That being said, when not in net, I only used knee/shinguards, cup, and gloves. In net, add a helmet (although it took me quite a few years to finally wear one; got hit in the eye with the ball and bought one the next day).

I wear breezer because I fall a lot & I'm my own worst enemy.
I have some extra equipment (my son's) from when he was a bantam.

Re: 2011 Posters' Game - St Paul

Just realized two things:

1. I should probably buy a camera, huh?
2. And for those who may allow me to use their camera, the easier to use the better (read: push button, picture taken). Those fancy-schmancy pro-type cameras are a bit above my skill level (meaning shutter speed, lighting options, etc).

Anyway, I'm guessing there will be other "unofficial" photographers taking pics, and I'd guess the total pics of the game could number in the hundreds. I'm gonna try and do what I did in Denver and take pics from the penalty box/scorekeeper's box. Hopefully I can capture a gem like I did then, when there was a controversial goal, and we used the pics I had taken to determine if it was a goal or not. :D

I've got two you can use if need be. I can set the SLR up for you. Will be as simple as a point and shoot and plenty sufficient.

The way it worked in the past is a rotation of cameras. This works in a couple ways:

1. The people who aren't heavily plugged into the internet can have their photos.
2. It encourages sharing photos between all who were there, and hopefully create new friendships.

In all actuality, there was a lack of photographers in Denver, hence the rotation by accident/circumstance. It worked out, though, so I thought it'd be a good idea this year.

Re: 2011 Posters' Game - St Paul

Is there an announcer this year? Didn't someone do a "Podcast" or something similar to that in Denver?

Does anyone have a video camera? If so, what camera?

Re: 2011 Posters' Game - St Paul

goldy, cross posting this from the who plays hockey thread:

I can bring the helmet (large), a pair of shin guards with a crack running through the one knee cap shell (15" - average length), a pair of gloves (15" - that would be a large size), a pair of elbow pads (large), and even an old pair of skates (CCM Tacks (size 9.5, which is the current 9.0 after CCM resized their line).

We really could have used one in St.Louis when Schroeder(or something like that) did a faceplant into the ice during the shoot-out... Eek
