Every hardware store in the Vancouver metro area is sold out of pitchforks and torches by now.

:D

It'll be interesting to see how the Canucks themselves respond in game 7.

is the *****ing due to the non call on the hit?

That's the #1 complaint, but they are also beeching about the media timeouts that seemed to happen everytime the Hawks iced the puck, as well as some non-calls on Bolland. Some are going so far as to say that Canadian teams never get the calls when they play US teams, because Bettman wants his major TV markets in the playoffs as long as possible.

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs: Can the goalies be stopped?

What non call? The check behind the boards? This is the problem with the "headshot" rule, its turning the NHL into International Soccer with the embellishments and laying on the ice after the hit like you are "hurt." Did the Vancouver player to go the quiet room after the hit? Nope, but he sure laid on the ice long after the hit, long enough for the ref to blow the whistle.

The initial contact was with the shoulder, and if I recall, his skates were still on the ice when he hit him. He left his skates after the hit. I could be wrong of course, I was well into my case of beer by OT.

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs: Can the goalies be stopped?

The only complaint they really have is the "1st whistle after 10 minutes= auto timeout for ice-cleaning", but I remember that occurring after a Colorado icing last year in Denver vs. San Jose. Anderson gave up a goal shortly thereafter and the jokes about him being distracted by puck bunnies on the ice (there's a couple pictures of him just staring down some chick scraping the ice both in Florida and Colorado) continued.

A decree from the Queen is forthcoming for the public stoning death of Roberto Luongo.

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs: Can the goalies be stopped?

Boston/Montreal started a day later than Chicago/Vancouver and Philadelphia/Buffalo. Also, Boston/Montreal is getting an extra day off between Game 5 and Game 6, at the expense of having no day off between Game 6 and a potential Game 7. Buffalo/Philadelphia and Chicago/Vancouver Game 7's are on Tuesday, and potential Game 7's for Boston/Montreal & Tampa Bay/Pittsburgh & Los Angeles/San Jose are all on Wednesday.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, the regular time for Game 6 in Montreal would be on Easter Monday, which is a holiday in Canada.

Their series pattern also got thrown off by the Lady Gaga concert in Montreal between Game 3 and 4.

Oh my God... OT hockey sucks when you are at the game and your team's arse is on the line...

Every series got an extra day of rest at some point, Montreal/Boston just happened to use theirs to work around a previously scheduled event. So that didn't really throw off the series pattern.

Ahem... the Sabres / Flyers series would like to have a word with you.

Meh, all but one. Wasn't going to waste my time checking every single series. Having an extra day off in the series is still the rule, not the exception.

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs: Can the goalies be stopped?

I hope Vancouver's mayor has speed dial to the mayors of Montreal and East Lansing... Tuesday's going to be interesting.

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs: Can the goalies be stopped?

What a bender on Saturday. We made it down to Boston Saturday night for the game, and when we got the OT winner, the entire club we were at erupted. Solid game from start to finish by both clubs. Despite the losses, montreal has looked better in each game - boston has just had that edge. A 3-2 series lead means nothing…ask New Jersey back in 2001…

Regardless of the outcome, this series stepped it up on both clubs behalf and I wouldn’t begrudge montreal (more than usual that is) if they took this. A lot of gutsy performances. Two evenly matched teams managing to give both of their respective cities numerous heart attacks every other day…

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs: Can the goalies be stopped?

Anyone know what the record is for the most first round series to go seven games under the current format?

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs: Can the goalies be stopped?

Sooo...how do the Bruins have Game 6 on Tuesday and CHI-VAN and PHI-BUF are on Game 7? Is the BOS-MON series the last one? What about PIT-BOLTs?

Hope Schneider is OK. He really looked like he was in pain. It would be just my luck for the Canucks to blow this series right before I get there.

Their series pattern also got thrown off by the Lady Gaga concert in Montreal between Game 3 and 4.

From what I'm hearing on Boston sports radio, there is a Lady Gaga concert tonight at the Bell Centre.

Haven't seen much of Schneider's pro career, but he was never comfortable handling the puck and it doesn't seem like that has changed. Other than that particular aspect of the game, I thought he was pretty good. Very unfortunate he got hurt in his big chance. Any update on his injury?

Sure was great seeing Smith score the winner and not against Schneider ;)

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs: Can the goalies be stopped?

Yes. Lady Gaga is playing in Montreal tonight. Might expect some delays going forward should the Bruins make the 2nd round. Celtics have some home dates in order with the Heat.

Well, 7uongo will start Game 7...

I am sure all of the Hawks Bandwagon will take this game as a given now... As much as I want the Hawks to succeed, a very small part of me wants to see Lou have a good game just to shut the dumbass bandwagoners up...
