Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs: Can the goalies be stopped?

They ought to throw everyone for a loop and move the team to Kansas City.

Edit: Hell, the prospective Winnipeg owners have already said "We aren't using Jets"

They ought to lose their chance at a franchise for that alone.

*ing bullsh*. They're the Jets, goddamit.

Vs. just showed the highlights for the Bruins Canadiens game and had Boston as the 6 and Montreal as the 3.

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs: Can the goalies be stopped?

I guess I'm somewhat biased, having grown up in the 60s sitting in front of the B&W TV every Saturday night. Being from Toronto, it was Foster and Bill Hewitt calling the Leafs. I used to have arguments with my Montreal cousin about who was better - Foster Hewitt or Danny Gallivan.

As a broadcasting student and especially today, I have come to realize they were both the best. In my mind, Hewitt, Gallivan and Dan Kelly are still the holy trinity of hockey broadcasters, but YMMV.

Edwards and the other screamers that are unfortunately the norm around the NHL these days couldn't carry their water bottles.
Of course, just about anyone, maybe even Jenerette, winds up looking pretty good if Edwards is your standard of comparison.

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs: Can the goalies be stopped?

I love the Moose logo. That pi**ed off Moose just looks amazing on their sweater. A LOT of marketing has been built behind the Moose name, the only reason the Jets name is wanted is for the nostalgia factor. But how successful were the Jets really? Weren't they pretty much a laughing stock of the league?

I would much prefer the new owners had a "clean slate" to start with by having the new name. The Moose have been VERY successful at the AHL level, time to promote them to the NHL and continue to kick *.

Let's not get carried away. Jenerette is god awful. I had to listen to his crap for way too long while I lived in god forsaken Sabres broadcast area. Jenerette is probably #1A to Edwards #1 on the awful/homer rankings.

Why does that matter? It's not like their success or failure was because of the name.

Fair point, it's been quite a while since I lived upstate and had to listen to him for Rangers-Sabres games, maybe I'm forgetting how awful he is.

When I lived in Rochester, it was either watch the Sabres and endure Jenerette or go without NHL hockey on a regular basis. As much as I love hockey, it was a tough choice. At least back then the NHL was on ESPN so I got to see some games.

Fortunately I don't live there anymore. Although the downside now is that apparently with the stupid broadcasting rules, somehow Ithaca is sometimes (I can't figure out the rules) in Sabres territory and not Rangers, so sometimes we get the Rangers blacked out in favor of the Sabres. UGH.

"Won" hah. I wonder how much the NHL had to pay them to "take" the rights.

It was rumored to be over 200 million dollars. I kind of wish they went with a hybrid, much like the NBA on TNT, and ESPN.

If it was on VS/NBC and ESPN, Itd mean more hockey and a win for everyone.
