Re: 2011 NHL Off-Season: The Puck Boat edition

If it is the Jets, I'm kinda dissapointed that decades of losing hockey are being immortalized, because the ignorant masses want "the return of the Jets."

The Jets sucked. The Moose put Manitoba in the position to have NHL hockey return.

Way to pander to the lowest denominator.

I agree. Plus, the all-time leading scorer for the Jets franchise would now be Ilya Kovalchuk, not Dale Hawerchuk.

I was personally hoping for the Winnetoba Moosejets. Also, at least a moose is somewhat intimidating, a jet doesn't really scare me.

Re: 2011 NHL Off-Season: The Puck Boat edition

The Cleveland Browns came back as such, so I don't have a problem with the Winnipeg Jets coming back. Franchise records could be a little confusing considering the old Jets are still around in Phoenix. I'd love for them to have the same uniforms as before.

Re: 2011 NHL Off-Season: The Puck Boat edition

Also, hoping Ryan Murphy is still on the board for the Bruins at #9. Perhaps they could trade with the Jets to get the 7th pick.

At least the Browns at one time were good and had some history of success and tradition.

Re: 2011 NHL Off-Season: The Puck Boat edition

Is there anyone on here who likes what Philly did?

Well, you figured they had to unload either Richards or Carter to afford Bryz. Carter was the obvious choice, but I guess Holmgren decided he'd had enough of Richards too. They are good buddies, and it's well-documented that they are partiers. There was also the rumor that Carter got frisky with Scott Hartnell's wife a couple years ago, and also an alleged locker room power struggle between Richards and Pronger.

I think time will tell how Philly's end of the deal works out. Brayden Schenn is a bonafide top prospect, and Voracek did alright playing for a BJs team with little talent outside of Rick Nash. It also depends on who they draft with those picks and how those prospects turn out. With the 8th overall this year, they should snag a pretty good player.

I'm rather glad they went with the Jets. Regardless of the previous franchise's losing history, I hate the sound of 'Moose' for an NHL team. We've already got enough terrible team names (Ducks, (Sex) Predators, etc.)

Eric Brewer stays in Tampa, 4 years at just under 16M, as had been widely rumored yesterday.

Yep.

I can't wait to get an Evander Kane #9 jersey. Or a [Random Shi**y Blueliner] #25 jersey. :D Those numbers are retired by Winnipeg1.0/Phoenix. Not Thrashers/Winnipeg2.0.

On a serious note, I am ecstatic that the Manitoba Jets will keep 37 out of use, and continue to remember Dan Snyder.

Re: 2011 NHL Off-Season: The Puck Boat edition

Calgary appears to be the destination for Ryan Smyth. That has to sting for Oilers' fans.

If it is the Whalers, I'm kinda dissapointed that decades of losing hockey are being immortalized, because the ignorant masses want "the return of the Whalers."

The Whalers sucked. The Wolfpack put Connecticut in the position to have NHL hockey return.

Way to pander to the lowest denominator.

Yeah... you know, if you change it around... it doesn't really sound any better.

People maintain identities... as foolish as they are or may seem... remember that the next time you go to any type of ethnic festival.

edit: if they are the jets I'm in for a jersey... if they aren't then I'm not buying one... I can't quite see what's "ignorant" here... your whimsy versus another guy's whimsy? Really?

Rumor that Brian Campbell was traded to Columbus.

Edit: LeBrun retweets that he was asked to waive his NTC yesterday and said no.

Ethnicities are a bit different. It's not like Finland up and moved to the Baltics, and Brataslava moves to Finland. I wouldn't be wanting Brataslava to change their name (the whole thing is just absurd).

What I find funny is that the masses were pining for the Return of the Jets, and the Manitoba Moose was a "minor league name" that didn't deserve to be an NHL team. And yet, those Moose, and their owners, are who made Winnipeg in the NHL possible again.

It's the whole revisionist history. Everyone wants the Jets back, even though that name and team wasn't really that great of a team. Funny how time erases those memories.

What I find funny now, is that the same masses that wanted the "Return of the Jets" are now whining because they're not getting their history back from Phoenix. No sh** a**holes (directed to the "RotJ" masses). Phoenix said they weren't giving it up, and the NHL said that they only had the rights to the logo for merchandising purposes. You're getting Atlanta's team history so enjoy seeing 9 and 25 on the ice again.

As for the jerseys, I was being sarcastic. Making reference to the retired numbers in PHX that the "masses" think they're getting back to hang in the MTS Centre rafters.

Re: 2011 NHL Off-Season: The Puck Boat edition

I'm enjoying the "Go Jets Go" chants at the Xcel Center.
This has the makings of a rivalry, which Wild fans could really use.

Re: 2011 NHL Off-Season: The Puck Boat edition

Early thoughts

1. Have that Colorado draft picks sisters bathed and sent to my quarters

2. New Jersey sucks one year and gets a franchise D-man out of it. *eyeroll*
