2011 Minnesota Offseason Thread

Re: 2011 Minnesota Offseason Thread

I posted this in the Big Ten thread.

I heard from the grapevine the Big Ten will not have a traditional schedule like it is today. This person believes the Big Ten games will be scattered through out the year. Also don't be suprised if we see non-traditional times and days. For example, look for the occasional Big Ten Hockey double headers on Saturday and Sunday nights and days. The majority if not all the games the Big Ten Network televises will be only member schools don't look for a UMD vs. UM or Wisconsin vs. UND on the Big Ten Network. For example, the Big Ten Network will televise all the conference games and Fox Sports North will likely televise all the non conference games. Supposely the network is thrilled with a new additional revenue potential especially the Gophers. It is going to be interesting.

Oh, the first choice for color commentary is Casey Hankinson he has the most talent. Currently his problem why he could not do it is he is a part time Anaheim scout and his primary job if I remember right is business real estate. He makes too much money for him to leave his current jobs for Gopher sports. If by chance he falls through Darby Hendrickson will be the next choice only if the Wild don't want him to be one of their assistant coaches. Finally, Kevin Gorg is the last and probably in my opinion the most likely candidate to be the full time color commentary or they may decide to have another open tryout.

I may have to look for a new cable subscriber if mine doesn't get BTN by then!

Re: 2011 Minnesota Offseason Thread

I got a glimpse of Kyle Rau during a USHL playoff game in Sioux Falls, SD last week. He reminded me a bit of Jacob Cepis in terms of size. Despite his small size, he's a gritty player and put some hard hits on some much bigger guys in the corners. He showed great speed on the rush, awesome puck handling ability, storms the net and he's a natural goal scorer. There's no doubt he's got the skills to be a great player for the Gophers. Should be fun to watch.

Max Gardiner was taken by the Dubuque Fighting Saints 73rd overall in today's USHL draft. Is he leaving the Gophers?

Re: 2011 Minnesota Offseason Thread

Happy is performing live at 1st Ave on Thursday night, here's his preview video.

That's the rumor. Cause if you don't get playing time on a horrible Gopher team it's time to leave instead of fighting for it.

Re: 2011 Minnesota Offseason Thread

Nothing to do with hockey, but Sandy Stephens was elected to the College football hall of fame today. Congratulations to him, if only he were around to see it.

At least half of them will be gone after one or two seasons either for entry level contracts or to bolt to other leagues due to lack of playing time.

There's no concept of 'team' here anymore - only the idea of 'development'.

Re: 2011 Minnesota Offseason Thread

The goofs couldn't develop film at this point.

Not when the players enter with the crap attitude they have over the last few years.

"If I am not going to get X amount of time on the ice, I am going to bolt instead of try to improve and earn it."

By all means, GTFO if you have an attitude like that. Screw 'em.

You're right so question is how do you get the players to change their attitude from gimme gimme to the best players play and fight for their spot in the lineup week to week? Coaching change? Weekly beating until moral improves?

Re: 2011 Minnesota Offseason Thread

Now that you guys are not going to be in our conference anymore, please take Dean Blais and put him on his rightful throne, so at least UNO fans (or just Red Cows) will stop puffing their (his) chest and shut up.

Re: 2011 Minnesota Offseason Thread

maybe he should develop more than just one player...

I don't think hakstool has that ability, he is the greatest choker in NCAA FF history. He had Finley for 4 years, and didn't do anything to develop him.
