2011 Minnesota Offseason Thread

Re: 2011 Minnesota Offseason Thread

heck, Lucia did more development for Leddy in only 25 games, than hakstool did for Genoway in 5 years and over 160 games.

Leddy wasn't developed when he signed. http://www.secondcityhockey.com/2011/5/3/2151317/2010-2011-player-evaluations-nick-leddy

was forced into a position he should have never had to be in to begin with.
difficulties maintaining an appropriate gap between himself and a rushing forward, which often led to him being crossed up trying to turn as a puck carrier blew by him
yielding a shocking amount of breakaways
was often a boy competing against grown-*** men who had no problem swatting him aside
At this stage in his development, along with the Hawks' championship window being as open as it can possibly be, having him at the adults' table is a lose-lose
He still appears to have a solid NHL career ahead of him, and for right now the experience this year, particularly in the playoffs, can only help. But if the Hawks continue to jerk him around, they're risking negatively impacting both the player and the organization as a whole.

Should have stayed in college!

Re: 2011 Minnesota Offseason Thread

at least his claim to fame isn't being a 6 time choker like hakstool. hakstool hit his peak, and has no where to go but down, while leddy just got started.

Happy. By bringing up Hakstol in this discussion page, perhaps you mistakenly forgot that you were no longer trolling in the UND thread. Easy mistake for you since you spend far more time bad mouthing UND than actually providing any information relevant to Gopher hockey.

Hakstol's claim to fame is developing players for the NHL. His good reputation for developing players is spread far and wide (not just in Minnesota).

For example. Coaches, sportswriters, and millions of Blackhawks fans seem to pretty much agree that Blackhawks Captain Jonathan Toews was very well coached, and is now the one player that is most valuable to the future of their organization. At least in Chicago, this gives the impression that the coaches at UND can develop players for the NHL and leaves unanswered questions regarding Nick Leddy. Seems that Leddy was not ready for the physical play of the NHL.

Hakstol has been a step or two from that peak for about 8 years now and has stayed there. There is no indication that Hakstol is going to backslide down the slope anytime soon like Lucia has.

Looking forward to the many challenges in store for both teams in the upcomming seasons.

wow, are you stupid. the same team that played toews also played leddy. I guess it was a completely different Chicago coach and Chicago management team that put toews on the ice, than put Leddy on the ice.

And, Lucia has won National Championships as a coach, and Hakstool hasn't. as such, hakstool is just a six time choker. hakstool had an older and more talented team last season than he will next, there is no reason to think he will finish anywhere near the top, he doesn't have the talent, and he is a proven choker.

I think you underestimate Hakstol's fame for choking in the Frozen Four (usually to BC), extending his middle finger (no wonder North Dagoata fans think it's acceptable), and getting more than his fair share of kids "temporary housing" through the Grand Forks Police Department.

He is also helping set up a community lawn mower repair program so his hockeys players can help out.

Its a good question. Would you rather have a two time national championship coach or a coach that will give you a chance every year? I thought this was UND's year but I was wrong. Hakstol has no chance of being fired whereas Lucia is in a make or break situation.

Any Gopher fans want to field the question of why John Hill is the scapegoat and not Lucia? Or is it that Maturi won't fire Lucia whereas Lucia firing Hill isn't as complicated?

I will take Two National Championships every time.

Re: 2011 Minnesota Offseason Thread

I have two questions for you Minn fans.
1 - Is the kid from Wayzata named Lucia related to your coach ?
2 - What's up with Minn in net this upcoming season ? They have 3 goalies from the USHL signed...

1.) Yes

2.) Patterson will be starting 90% of the games. We don't really know who will be the back up yet. Or at least I don't know.

John Hill is not a scapegoat, he's just too soft of a coach. He needs a "Herb Brooks" backbone transplant. The buck stops with Lucia, and I think we'll see a tougher stance from Lucia on overall player performance this season.

Really liking the sound of a Bjugstad, Rau, Buddish line.

I would be surprised if Kyle Rau is in the top three. Having seen him play recently for Sioux Falls Stampede in the USHL playoffs, he's definitely got the goods to have a excellent college career. But the WCHA will be a wakeup call for a guy with his small stature and inexperience at this level. He'll need time to fill out much like Ness did. BTW, it's "Budish" :).

BTW, it's "Budish" :).

Ooops. Thanks!

And I agree on Rau. However, because of his size, it may make sense to put him on a line with some big body forwards to help make some space for him. As excited as I am to see what Rau will do in college, I am equally as excited to see what Bjugstad will do in his sophmore season (a lot of people forget he should have been a high school senior last year) and what Budish can do with a healthy full season.
