LOL! Hackstol had a player talented enough to be captain on an NHL team and that resulted in runner up status, again. Lucia's best player in recent memory was Vanek and that resulted in a championship.Happy. By bringing up Hakstol in this discussion page, perhaps you mistakenly forgot that you were no longer trolling in the UND thread. Easy mistake for you since you spend far more time bad mouthing UND than actually providing any information relevant to Gopher hockey.
Hakstol's claim to fame is developing players for the NHL. His good reputation for developing players is spread far and wide (not just in Minnesota).
For example. Coaches, sportswriters, and millions of Blackhawks fans seem to pretty much agree that Blackhawks Captain Jonathan Toews was very well coached, and is now the one player that is most valuable to the future of their organization. At least in Chicago, this gives the impression that the coaches at UND can develop players for the NHL and leaves unanswered questions regarding Nick Leddy. Seems that Leddy was not ready for the physical play of the NHL.
Hakstol has been a step or two from that peak for about 8 years now and has stayed there. There is no indication that Hakstol is going to backslide down the slope anytime soon like Lucia has.
Looking forward to the many challenges in store for both teams in the upcomming seasons.

Toews' role in the Blackhawks has far more to do with Toews than Hackstol. If not, why was he drafted 3rd overall? If it was the Hackstol then where is the long list of NHL captains that Hackstol has molded?
I will give you the fact that UND does a good job of player selection and gets them to stay at UND longer than they might at other schools. That says a lot.
The fact that Hackstol regularly loses to lesser talented teams in the NCAAs is also a fact that you can't overlook. He is not a great game-day coach and does not adjust his team's game to overcome other coach's strategies. He just plays UND hockey...and loses.

As a long time Gopher fan, I say the above analysis is pretty much spot on.
I'm betting he picks ND. He seems smarter than Tony.
Or is he?
He either plays in the Big Ten for most of his college career or the CCHA.

But his college career will likely be two years at most, so not sure it really matters.
Second round picks play 2 to 3 years.
The Wild just released details on 2012 Hockey Day Minnesota. High school games will be on Lake Minnetonka, Gophers will host Colorado College. The Minnetonka vs Duluth East game will be awesome! East is returning most of a talented team that reached the State Championship and Tonka should have an exciting, young team. I believe their JV team went undefeated last year. I was hoping to see the Gophers play another MN team, but CC should have an exciting team next year, so it should be a fun game to watch.

Huh. The date on that must be wrong: should be 4-1.From Charley Walters' column today in the Pioneer Press:
"Pssst: Don't be surprised if John Hill, the top assistant for the Gophers men's hockey team, departs soon."

Any speculation on who Hill's replacement will be?
One of the most respected assistant coaches in the nation, John Hill is entering his sixth year in his second stint as an assistant coach at the University of Minnesota in 2010-11.
