2011 Minnesota Offseason Thread

Re: 2011 Minnesota Offseason Thread

Give a kid more reasons to stay (i.e. a defensive coach worth a crap) and we wouldn't have to wonder.

Agree. He came in to U-M with potential and on a great trajectory, then played 1 year without development, then now is a solid rookie contributor during the Stanley Cup playoffs, logging 15-20 minutes a night. He really looks quite good.

Ordinarily I would agree with you but the Blackhawks needed to fill the pipeline and wanted Leddy to leave. IMO, it looks like the correct descision.

Big mistake by Fletcher. Oh, well.

Re: 2011 Minnesota Offseason Thread

Maturi said he plans on offering Lucia a contract similar to football coach Tim Brewster's last contract., "The extension with Brewster did not cost the university any significant additional dollars," Maturi said, when the decision was made to fire him after the 2010 season. -Strib

Brewster's was a two year, low buyout (half annual salary) with more incremental bonus opportunities based upon victories per season. If that happens, it would take Lucia into the BTHC if he's remains the Gopher coach throughout the extension.

Not really true. He wasn't inclined to leave that fast. You have to give guys reasons to stay and it doesn't help when you really don't have a positional coach to lean on that can make you feel like it is worth maturing a bit longer in college.

It's simply put up or shut up. It helps perception for the coach but he's gotta get the right kind of results.

So you are telling me the Gophers don't have a defensive positional coach on staff? ;)

Re: 2011 Minnesota Offseason Thread

Not sure if this has been addressed, but there is one Major U Alum that is without a job.... Anyway Todd Richards finds a home at the U as head coach?

He is going to make at least $600,000 or so this year. Now, really, how can you tell a 19 year old that school is better than $600,000? And, clearly, 1 year with the gophers didn't hurt his development at all, especially with the broken jaw.

I agree. He was clearly a better player by the end of the year than at the beginning, despite the missed time.

Well if that $600k came by working in your family's business of shampooing crotches I bet he would choose school.

Re: 2011 Minnesota Offseason Thread

After a stellar HS career, Kyle Rau is now making a difference in the USHL semi-final playoffs for the Sioux Falls Stampede.

Re: 2011 Minnesota Offseason Thread

It won't be very effectual for PWR either. I'm frankly very surprised at the weak NC sked.

it could be in part because of the unknow in the future Big Ten schedule, and Lucia needs a winnning record.

a weak schedule didn't hurt Yale at all.
