2011 Division III Commitments

Re: 2011 Division III Commitments

Yes, the Salt Lake Valley is bracing for potential flooding (if it ever warms up and stops snowing in the mountains above town). We've had springs here where people are literally Kayaking certain streets. The ski area just down canyon from me (Snowbird) is planning on remaining open until the 4th of July for the first time since 2005.

When I was in college in the state of Washington, Mount Baker had traditional closing date of July 4. That was the day when the drunken rowdies would do the pond skimming thing. It started as a slalom race, known as the Slush Cup that ended in front of the pond, and the racers would skim across after the finish Later they did away with the race, but the pond skimming thing continued. Nobody sober went to skim the pond. Nobody sober was a spectator, either. Due to the behavior of the participants they stopped the tradition in the Early 80s by closing the ski area while there was still tons of snow to ski on.

Uh, yeah Prez ... how about those recruits? Some info please? Sometime soon?

Not for us, George - loose lips sink ships and all that. In an unrelated example of sports info security, the schedule is still under embargo.

Re: 2011 Division III Commitments

Well now that it's common knowledge that Oswego is the snowiest place on Earth, let's get back to talking about these recruits!

I'm especially interested to learn who has committed to ECAC-NE and bottom tier MCHA schools. Any Beta?

Yeah Prof ... tell me about it ...
I'm a team guy and I don't mind taking one for the team ... but I've got a job to do too!

Burlington Cougars Forwards Chris Carr, Jason Popek and defenseman Robert Gertsakis will be joining the Oswego State Lakers in 2011-12.

The Carr kid may/must be Tim Carrs Brother as they are both from the Burlington area, both Dmen....also Rivart the Dman from oakville, who was previously mentioned, 6"2" 205 was the team captain there, seems like Gosek has gotten a bunch of guys who were captains and assisstant caps of their teams......I like it.........

Agreed. Getting team captains is usually always a safe play. There is usually a reason why guys have a letter on their chest. USUALLY.

Ron Fogarty at Adrian uses the same recruiting practice and did that when he went out and started the program four years ago and I believe is trying to do again with this new class.

I had someone tell me that in Elmira's 2010 recruiting class every single recruit was either an alternate or captain. I'm sure most coaches make that an important part of recruiting.

Oswego's 2009 and 2010 classes had quite a few captains.

Re: 2011 Division III Commitments

Worked out alright for the Oswego class of 2009 in 2007. ;)

But other than that year, yes I agree, that team completely underachieved.

I wasn't specifically referring to Oswego. That's just a saying that I sometimes find applicable to lots of situations...

I don't really remember how 2009 ended for Oswego. I remember Neumann beating Gustavus in the final. Did they lose to Neumann in the semis?

edit: just looked - they didn't make the tourney in '09.

Hence why I said they underachieved for the amount of talent that was on that team.

That class couldn't beat Plattsburgh. 1-9-1 or something like that in their four years there.

The year the Lakers made the tournament was the year Oswego went 20-3-1 or something like that in the regular season and then lost to Fredonia in the SUNYAC semis, but they still got an at-large and then won it all.

As a SNC fan, I remember 2007 very well.
